Chapter 7
Sans learned a lot on Lovers day.
First, he learned of its origins. Apparently Valentines day did exist in this world, but a hero with a quirk about love was born on Lovers day, which resulted in it becoming the most important day for romantic love. Ever since they were born, and even after they died, their birthday held the most marriage proposals, dates meeting, things like that. Valentines day became the day for all things love related, even platonic or family.
The second thing he discovered was who Bakugou's crush was. Because, well...
Fuck. That's basically how he summed it up. Because it was him.
Surprisingly, Sans was the favorite teacher in their classroom. He found that out rather quickly by the amount of gifts he received from his kids. Not out of romantic want, but simply because it was a holiday and they sometimes gave each other small presents.
It was cute to watch all of the kids in the school fluster about being romantic and trying to ask out their crushes. There was a lot of blushing that day. And hey, there was one successful kid in his class! Well, two actually. Todoroki and Deku had both approached each other with nervous blushes, before the two boys pulled out gifts and asked each other out at the same time with nervous stutters. Everyone clapped for them as they hugged, laughing from relief. Even Uraraka clapped, despite the clear card heart cutout she had for Deku, and with a strained, brimming with tears face. Sans took her aside and helped her deal with that loss. Man did she like Deku. Kid was a good one, so he could understand why. Deku and Todoroki both were popular with their looks and skills, along with their personalities, so it made sense a lot of people would be crushed over this news.
But Bakugou... oh man, Sans was not prepared for that. Honestly, he was expecting rockhead mcgee to be his romantic interest. And when Bakugou asked Sans to speak in private, he assumed it was help for asking that redhead friend of his out. Not for asking Sans out.
So when Bakugou turned, holding out a box of chocolate with a red face and quickly sputtered out a loud "WILL YOU BE MY DATE?" Sans almost lost his shit right there.
"Bakugou," Sans could only say this, "What the fuck?"
And so, they were now sitting down.
It was silent between them. People crowded the streets as they walked, but the two males didn't talk. Not for a bit. Not until Sans turned towards him, and gestured to the chocolate.
"Do you really have a crush on me?" Sans asked.
"Well, I mean - yeah, kinda!" Bakugou said, nervously playing with the edge of the red box. "You're an awesome person! You're cool, funny, and insanely strong! I respect the hell out of you! I have had a crush on you ever since you kicked those guys asses at the training grounds!" He looked over, "And I figured we could maybe go out..."
Sans slowly blinked. Wow. Just... wow. He got it, lots of kids got crushes on cool adult figures, but still.
"Kid, yer like seventeen. I'm an adult that's way too old for you. And I'm not going to do that one thing where I'll 'wait for you to became legal', because I ain't a groomer or whatever. I just see you as a kid, alright? A friend, and an awesome student, but at the end of the day you shouldn't see me as a possible romantic partner and I sure as hell shouldn't see you as one."
Bakugou groaned, running a hand down his face and nodded quietly. "Yeah, I... I knew, but I was kinda hoping maybe you were seventeen or eighteen in your old body and..."
"I was over twenty five, kid."
"Damn it."
Sans sighed, tilting his head up to look at the morning sky. It sure was nice out. A perk about this world was people who had weather perks and constantly ensured clear weather during times people were out on the streets.
"You understand, right Bakugou? I don't want to make it seem like I hate you, I respect ya too, but I'm just not attracted to you. And if I was, you better have started running, alright?" Sans said. "Kissing kids ain't really my style."
"Kissing?" Bakugou made a face. "Ew."
Confused, Sans cracked open an eye. "Kissing... it's what you want to do with a crush, you... Wait, Bakugou, do you actually have a crush on me?'
"What?"
Sans leaned forward, propping his elbows onto his knees. "I'm starting to think that you might have tricked yourself into thinking you want to date me."
"What?" He repeated again, like a broken wheel, before quickly shaking his head. "What do you mean? Of course I like you! You're awesome and cool and I look up to you so much! I don't want you dating anyone else!"
"Then do you want to take me on dates where you hold my hand?" Sans asked. "Do you dream about kissing me, about getting married to me? Become giddy when you think about taking me out on romantic dates where we kiss and coo at each other?"
He gagged at the idea. "God no. I just - I think you're really neat, that's all! So I have a crush on you!"
"No, you don't."
Bakugou looked over, now confused.
"Kid, I'm starting to think you're aromantic," Sans said, "Because if you had a crush on me, you'd want to do all of that stuff. But you think how you feel about me is a crush. I don't know how you feel about me for sure, sure, yet... romantic doesn't name it. At all. I think you just see me as a cool friend and don't know how to go about it."
It... made a lot of sense now. Why Bakugou kept giving him things, sometimes went out of his way to protect Sans despite his lack of needing it, and why he seemed to intent on not letting Sans date anyone else, but didn't like any of the romantic aspects. He didn't seem to be sexualizing Sans like a certain grape kid often would, so this wasn't sexual attraction, either. Bakugou just saw him as someone important to him, and wasn't sure what to call it.
"I - shit, am I?" He grabbed his own hair and pulled, as if that'd explain his feelings better. "I just thought I had a crush on you! I don't... now I'm confused."
Sans gently took the box of chocolate out of his hands. "I think it's good to let you think about this over the night, alright? And, if you have any questions, I'm free to talk. I have a friend who's aro and I learned a lot as they figured it out, so I know a bit. And I really think you fit that." He held the chocolate close to his chest. "But I think there's a certain girl in your class that can use a gift today, so I'm going to give this to her, if that's alright with you. Since I know you don't like sweets."
"Yeah, that's fine," He sighed, "I'll... think about what the hell I'm feeling right now."
"You got this," Sans patted his back.
Overall, a good day when he got home. Bakugou had some stuff to figure out, since he sucked with understanding emotions, but he could get it. Sans believed in him. And, in the off chance he might, or probably, wouldn't figure it out, Sans found some articles online that could help.
He pet his cat, letting his fingers brush under her chin as he set down his bag. Not a bad day.
And, sitting on the counter, was something he didn't leave there before he left. A rose.
Sans picked it up, looking around the empty house.
Who left him a rose?
