Chapter 56

He walked into their room, astounded by the sight before him.

She had removed the pins from her elaborate bun, allowing her hair to fall freely over her back as she looked down at the ocean waves flowing and ebbing gently below their hotel window. He fiddled with the watch straps on his wrist, allowing the cool metal to calm his nerves as he walked towards her.

He watched her rub her finger gently over her wedding ring- white gold as she had wished for all those years ago. "Are you happy?" he nudged her shoulder gently with his own as he rested his elbows against the window sill.

"Very." She turned to smile at him, her light pink lipstick drawing his gaze to her lips. "I like the way you look in your suit." She ran her eyes over his wide, tall, strong frame- appraising the way the suit fit him before she took a step behind him to remove his jacket. "But I like the way you look like this even more." She liked the way his white shirt fit over his broad shoulders, running over his skin smoothly before tapering over his narrower waist. "And I really like these." She ran her fingers over the black suspenders running up his torso.

"And I like the way you look in that dress."

She had finally gotten her dress.

After all these many years, she had gotten the wedding she had always wished for. Her granny had asked for it. She wanted her heart to be at ease, knowing her grandchildren were wedded properly instead of just at court. She had sewn Tasneem's dress herself and had asked her son to help Riaz find his suit. She had even called his Granny, pleading with her to make the long drive down.

Aamina had forced Tasneem to stay with her the night before, wanting to keep her dress a surprise. He thought it was odd but he couldn't deny her her wishes. Not after all she had done for him. He would give Tasneem's granny the sun and the moon if he could and it would never make up for what she had given him. She had given him a family. She had given him the love of a parent he had never knew he needed and he would forever be grateful to her.

He hadn't seen Tasneem until after their Nikaah in the Masjid. He was finally her husband.

In every sense of the word.

An odd feeling had overcome him when the Imaam had finally claimed that he was truly her husband in this world and in the next. He would be with her for an eternity and he could barely believe it. He had been married to her for over 5 years, yet still, his heart thudded in his chest before he entered the house to meet her. It was small- her granny didn't have enough money to afford an elaborate reception but what she had done was more than enough for them. He walked into her Granny's house only to be met with utter silence. "Hello."

"Riaz." Her voice came from somewhere behind him.

He turned around slowly, never expecting his breath to be stolen from him.

"Hi." She looked up at him, her eyes glimmering behind her dark eyeliner.

"Hi." He couldn't take his eyes off her. There were no words in his vocabulary to explain how beautiful she looked standing before him in her white wedding dress. "You're beautiful."

Her cheeks crinkled beneath her smile as her eyes roved over him. "You're beautiful too." Her voice soft, awed as she walked closer to him, balancing on her high heels. She took both his hands in her own, running her hands softly over his knuckles. "I like the ring you bought me."

"Yeah?"

"Yeah." She raised his right hand to her lips, brushing her lips softly over his calloused palm. "Will you put it on for me?" she reached into the small pocket tucked into the folds of her skirt to retrieve the ring, holding it up to him in the palm of her hand.

"We've come a long way, haven't we?" he asked, sliding her ring gently onto her finger, before lifting her hand up to place a single kiss over the glimmering diamond.

"A very long way..." her heart was going crazy, emotions she had never felt coursing through her veins as he looked down at her. Whatever she felt, she knew he felt it too. Her legs felt like jelly beneath her, forcing her to sit on the soft cushioned chair behind her. "I'm sorry, I'm just..." she was flustered, unable to explain her feelings but loving the way she felt altogether.

It was the single most magical moment of her life.

Her throat closed up, her happiness truly bubbling out of her at the thought of it all. She couldn't take her eyes off him as he kneeled down before her, taking her hand in his.

Every event in his life had culminated into this one, single moment. This perfect, precious moment. No one and nothing else existed except him and her. He felt nothing else, saw nothing else and loved no one else except her.

All that was, was him and her.

He was so close to her. So close that he could count her every eyelash. He could do nothing but stare at her perfect nose.

She was perfect.

He closed his eyes as he touched his forehead to hers, mesmerised by her. He felt her tears as it rolled onto his cheek and breathed in her scent. Her fingers tensed against his as he gently kissed her fingertips.

This was that moment.

He pressed his lips against hers.

This was their perfect moment.

"Was your day as good as you imagined it to be?" he asked, wrapping his arm around her shoulder, drawing her to stand just a little closer to him.

"It was perfect." She said, linking their fingers together. "Just perfect."

They sat in silence, allowing the sound of the waves crashing on the shore to fill in the gaps.

"Thank you." His voice was soft against the loud, crashing waves.

"For what?" she looked up at him, smiling as she caught his eye.

"For sending me that note in class."

"Thank you for sending one back." She reached up on her toes, pressing her lips to his cheek. He turned to face her, wrapping his arms around her back, keeping her right where she was.

"Can I kiss you now, Little Bee?"

Her lips curved into a wide smile, "I told you, one day you'll never leave and when that happens, I'll never stop kissing you."

He dipped his head, brushing his lips softly over hers, tasting her lipstick as she caught his bottom lip between her own. His fingers traced the zip at the back of her dress, pulling it down slowly. His fingers padded over her soft skin, tracing the light freckles and beauty spots dotting the sensitive edge of her spine as he revealed more and more of her.

"I love my normal when I'm with you." She whispered, smiling against his lips.

"I love you." He said, pressing his lips to hers once again

And he didn't stop kissing her

Not for a very long time after...
