A Song

As my soul slowly dissipates, I hear something, a song. A most wonderful song. I hear the singer sing, "you must listen Ed, you're being deceived. Nathan will kill you. Follow my voice to the body. Return Uncannoned to your world and face Nathan."

The singer repeats themself. Wait, Ed? Nathan? Edgar! No! I can't fade yet! There are still some who can be saved! It is my sworn duty to save what is left of my timeline! I can't die here! I won't die here!

"Help! Someone, anyone! I'm fading!" I scream, but there is no sound. I can't move. I can't open my eyes. I don't feel hunger anymore, I can hardly think. My mind is fading. Have to hold on. Have to stay awake. Have to stay alive...

The singer stops. I hear footsteps approaching. I feel something, something pulling me back into the abyss. I open my eyes. I struggle to catch my breath. A figure in a white cloak stands before me. Their aura feels familiar. Could this be the being whom fought Hatred before the one hundred years of peace?

"Are you alright?" They ask.

I struggle to my feet.

"Take it easy," the cloaked figure recommends, "you're still unstable. I had to give you pure mana. It'll take some time to fully kick in."

"I'm fine," I lie, "I'm on my way to face I.T... Hey, you wouldn't happen to be..."

"Yes I am," the cloaked figure replies, "Good, entity of, well, good. Fought Hatred in the third era, The Era of the Old. At your service."

"I thought it was Hero," I reply.

"Changed it," Good replies, "so, quick question, are you OK?"

"I said I was fine," I reply.

"No," Good replies, "I mean emotionally. You didn't seem to struggle against death until the last second. I understand if you want to face I.T., but, not in this state. You need a will to live to stand a chance."

"I know," I reply, "but if I don't face him, and the survivors become canon, he's just gonna erase them anyways."

"Listien," Good replies, "you're not ready. I think we should talk freind. Have a seat."

Good concentrates mana in the air to form a table set for tea. "Have some tea," they continue as a cup appears in my hands.

I pour myself some tea and add some sugar. I like it sweet OK? A trait I picked up from Antihero's unmasked side. His memories didn't become part of me, but his personality did. Maybe I could use that to figure out who Antihero is under the mask sometime...

Good pours themself some tea. "So," they smile, but in such a way that I know they're trying to hide the fact I'm not gonna like their questions, "why weren't you struggling?"

"Cause I deserve death," I reply, "I deserve to be erased. I've erased so many people. I thought I'd join them."

"Why at the last moment?" Good asks, "why change your mind?"

"I heard a song," I reply, "I realized there were still some in my timeline I could save. I still have some to do before I fade. I'm going to erase I.T. first. That's for sure."

"It wasn't your fault," Good replies, "you were deceived."

"I didn't even hesitate. I had no remorse during the acts. The fact that I hesitated to die and continue to do so is disgusting and hypocritical."

"It's not like that," Good replies, "you didn't hesitate to die, you wanted to live. Your aura flared up at the last second. That's why I came here. You've been spared Uncannoned, and you shouldn't throw away this second chance. If you're ever having doubts, come talk to me."

"Sure, anyways, I better head back. Null doesn't exactly know I can phase through walls."

"I'll head home to, Null's probably looking for me."

"Which way do I go? I'm lost."

"Here, take this map. It can show you where you are."

Good hands me an enchanted map. I find a "you are here," symbol and then Null's house.

"Thanks," I smile, "see you later."

"Oh," Good stops me, "before you go, would you like to meet Evil sometime? We don't exactly have a lot of freinds down here so any extension to our little circle is welcome."

"Sure," I reply, "but not right now. I gotta go. See ya."

"See ya Uncannoned," Good replies.

"Wait," I stop, "how'd you know my name?" I ask.

"Edgar from your timeline gave me this," Good explains holding a notebook, "it contains notes on the names of all survivors from your timeline. Anyways, you should go, see you later Uncannoned."

"See you later Good," I reply heading back to Null's house...
