#NONC2022 is more than just the ONC. This is a community-run event. That means that although the Chucks mods will be organizing the central (ONC-adjacent) part of the festival, the whole community can pitch in to add to it however they like.

Other NONC activities will be listed in this chapter, which will be updated as new things are planned.

Weekly Check-Ins

Originally designed for Chucks cross-promotion events, these weekly check-ins will be repurposed for NONC as a whole. Every week, everyone involved in the festival will be tagged in a post containing updates, reminders, at least one fun/silly question about your novella, and the opportunity to share feedback, challenges, celebrations, and more with your fellow community members. 

The NONC cross-promo will continue to benefit from these: as in previous years, check-ins will be the primary mode of communication for that part of the event. If we have members who do enter into the ONC itself, we will also cheer them on here.

Check-ins will likely be reduced to bi-weekly after early May, when ONC novellas are required to be completed.

NONC Cross-Promo

Chucks has been running ONC cross-promotion events for the last two years. Participating members make reading lists of one another's novellas, and promote each other with promo graphics in the chapters of their own entries. Cross-promo pools readers between books, so the result is a promo boost that individual books would not get alone.

This year's NONC will include a cross-promo just like any year before it. Participation is optional, but the boost works better the more people are involved! For more information, see the cross-promo info doc in the #nonc-info channel in Chucks.

Discussion Topics

Chucks as a whole was founded around server-wide discussion topics posted at semi-regular intervals: currently every Tuesday and Friday. In February and possibly into March, these full-server discussions will be geared towards book development, and paced according to an average person's progress in the ONC. Come answer the questions to help build out your novella! All discussion topics will be pinned, if you want to reference them later.

Group Write-Ins

Interested in sprinting with other writers? Chucks has a #sprints channel specifically for this purpose, but we've got more than that, too. Every Tuesday and Friday evening (North American Time), the @sprinter role gets tagged for group sprints in this channel. Anyone who's available and down to write is free to join in! The sprinter role is available for self-selection in the #rules-and-roles channel.

N/ONC Read-a-Thon

A 1-2 week event in mid-May, run by active community members. This is an event open to all N/ONC novellas and overgrown novellas, wherein people who sign up commit to reading half an hour of a selected participant's novella on each day of the event.

What Else?

More events will be added to this chapter as they are taken on by community members and organized independently. Candidates include: 

❖  Any review/hype books maintained by community members during the ONC

❖  Social media promo exchanges, for anyone who wants to trade social media handles and give one another a shout-out

❖  Memes and in-server jokes, obviously (because where would we be without all those goose gifs) 

❖  Charles the Cat. More information on him in a bonus chapter later in this book
