When does the NONC festival start?

NONC will start at the same time as the ONC: February 1st, when the ONC prompts go live!

Where are the prompts?

The prompts will be posted in a separate chapter of the ONC book. Due to copyright caution, they will not be posted in this book.

Do I need to follow a prompt for my story?

This is NONC, not ONC! While we encourage you to challenge yourself by following the ONC rules and including a prompt, you do not have to. 

Can I submit a story I've already written?

To preserve the ONC spirit, we are limiting NONC entries to new novellas written and posted during the span of the ONC. With that said, you are welcome to use the NONC hype to make progress on other books if you don't feel like entering!

Can I write more than one story?

Absolutely! You can write as many novellas as you like, though it won't net you anything special in NONC. Each author will only be entered once in each round's prize draw, if they meet the milestone with at least one book. Many NONC festivities—like the cross-promo and read-a-thon—also have a limit of one book per author. This festival is meant to encourage you to write whatever you want, though, and that includes book count!

If I miss the deadline in one round but make it for the next, can I enter that next round's prize draw?

Yes, you can! Because NONC has no judging, nobody gets cut between rounds. If you make any milestone by its deadline and submit your form, you will be eligible for that round's draw.

Does my entry have to be written in English?

Nope. Because NONC has no judging, we don't need to limit books to only the languages the judges can read. However, some NONC festivities (such as a read-a-thon, if one is run) will be limited to English books.

What if my novella turns into a novel?

Only novellas finished by the final ONC deadline (April 30th) will be eligible for the grand prize draw, but that's the only restriction. If your novella turns into a novel, you will still be able to participate in all other NONC festivities, including the cross-promo and read-a-thon (if one is run), as well as the 20k prize draw run in parallel with the grand one. 

Do I need to post my novella on Wattpad?

You do not! If your novella is posted on Tapas, Radish, or any other platform—or indeed, not posted at all—you can still write towards the N/ONC milestones and enter into the prize draw. You will also be able to participate in discussion questions, check-ins, and other hype. However, posting to Wattpad will be required for the cross-promo, as well as other festivities at the discretion of the community member running them.

Is the cross-promo mandatory?

Not at all. While it's a core part of the ONC for Chucks folks (our cross-promo for 2022 morphed into NONC when the ONC posted its new rules), the cross-promo is entirely optional for those writing novellas within the ONC timelines. With that said, it's the best way to capitalize on the huge hype-and-promo boost afforded by the ONC... and it gets more effective the more people are in it!

I'm not good at making graphics. Can I still enter the cross-promo?

Promo graphics are a core part of cross-promo activities, so you will need one. If you're not confident in your graphic-design skills, though, that's what the community is there for! Chucks has several channels dedicated to sharing and workshopping graphics, and the community is full of graphic-design nerds who've gone through that learning process themselves before. They'll be happy to help you out.

Can I still enter in the ONC?

If you've read the rules and are okay with the circumstances surrounding them, you are perfectly welcome to enter the ONC as well as participate in NONC. We'll cheer you on!
