Words are not just words

Ever heard of a fake facebook page?

I hadn't, either. Until one was made about me. It had a picture of me from a charity event I had participated in. A friend of my brothers pm'd me on facebook asking if I knew about it. That was bad enough. What made it even worse were the status updates and comments. One was "I don't need to graduate, I'll be as famous as Tokyo Hotel", a german band you might have heard of. Huge female fanbase.

Anyway, that hit me particularly hard because that was the exact opposite of my mind set. I wanted to pass my exams and graduate. Badly. And even that wasn't the worse. I noticed some comments from my class mates. Yeah. Now, I have never been the popular type. I'm shy, of foreign birth (British born, grown up in France), not many friends. But I liked to think I got along with a few people in my class. So imagine my surprise when I found some of the comments were from one of those people? Of course we weren't best pals or anything but we walked part way from school sometimes, and they were reasonably nice so that hurt. A soap opera did a similar storyline with a smart but asociable girl being teased and getting a fake page. I could barely believe how relatable that was, but believe you me, it was.

Bottom line is: You may find it funny. The person on the other end will not. Teasing is between friends. When you don't know the person, let them be.
