Like- could you maybe please write a soft midnight one where Jeno and Jaemin meet at the bus stop each night, not like they say “hey meet me” but they both just appear 👀

Midnight

Jaemin hummed softly to himself as he walked down the street, looking around at the quiet neighborhood. It was always so beautiful at this time- the moon high in the sky, casting shadows in the backyards of the many homes he passed, the silence of the night flooding the streets, street lamps softly buzzing as they tried to chase away the graceful darkness of night. It was beautiful but still a bit Erie. He always enjoyed the chill it brought him when he saw the shifting of a shadow or a figure standing in the distance. It was a strange feeling to him, but he liked it. He liked to feel like he was lesser, to live on the edge and know it. Know that he could be in some actual danger.

He was always the schools bad boy, loud and talkative, the type who would curse out a teacher and didn't give a shit when he was in the principles office. But he wasn't a bully either. Many of the students respected him for standing up to the staff, some even praising him for it. But being someone that everyone seemed to honor and look up to meant he didn't really have any close friends. Instead he had a lot of really distant friends. He didn't have anyone to text or talk to when he was lonely, didn't have anyone to go get ice cream with when it was hot out, and it was lonely sitting in his bedroom all night. So, every night at around 11:30 he would take his wallet and walk to the bus stop. He'd take the bus a little ways into the city and walk around the marketplace, buying food and trinkets for himself as he pleased. He would head home whenever and normally wasn't in bed until about 3. It didn't matter to him though, he could just nap during his math class.

He hummed to himself as he approached the spot, watching his feet while he kicked some pebbles around. He only looked up once he was right beside the bench at the bus stop. That's when he noticed what was different.

A boy who looked about his age sat on the ground, face buried in his knees. There was a wilting bouquet on one side of him and on the other a box of chocolates, still unopened. He could hear faint sniffles coming from the boy and he walked over, picking up the dying flowers and sitting down.

"Are you alright..?" He asked carefully. He knew the answer was obviously no but he wanted to give the boy the chance to explain if he wanted.

The boy weakly nodded as a yes.

"I-I'm fine.." Jaemin's frown deepened as he carefully put an arm around the boys shoulder.

"Obviously you aren't. What happened?" The boy lifted his head so that his eyes watched over his arm, gazing at Jaemin who watched carefully.

"My girlfriend cheated on me.. And today was our anniversary b-but I saw her and that o-other guy kissing outside her house.." He stopped and sniffled, burying his face back into his knees. Jaemin noticed how the boy was instinctively leaning into the warmth of his hold.

His parents always told him about how one of the basic human needs is warmth and safety, and Jaemin knew that if there was another kid his age in need, he would help them.

He pulled the other gently closer and rubbed his arm, letting him cry hard in his hold. He had never experienced breakup. He had never even had a relationship anything better then a first grade friendship. But that's something us humans are somehow just good at: sympathizing.

Moments later, the bus came to a halting stop in front of them. The raven haired boy sniffled and pulled away, standing up. He turned and looked at Jaemin.

"Th-thanks for sitting with me.." Jaemin nodded at the boys words before watching him walk towards the bus to get on. He shook his head to break free from his daze, picking up the box of chocolates and wilting flowers before running onto the bus after the other.

He walked over to the boys seat and smiled.

"I'm going into the city too actually. Late night macaroon run, you know?" He said with a chuckle. The boy smiled sadly up at him and nodded, patting the seat beside him. Jaemin gladly sat, smiling as he did. He opened the box and offered it to the other. "The perk of this is now you get free chocolates." He said with a bright smile. The other let out a light chuckle and pulled out one of the chocolates, Jaemin taking one after. "What's your name if you dont mind me asking.." Jaemin said, mouthful of chocolate.

"Jeno. Lee Jeno." Jaemin nodded.

"Well I'm Na Jaemin. It's nice to meet you on this beautiful night." Jeno smiled and sniffled.

"You as well.."

For the next ten minutes Jaemin made small talk with the other, telling a couple lame jokes to cheer the other up. And it seemed to work.

But nothing lasts forever and just as soon as it had started it was ending.

"This is my stop." Jeno said, standing up. He held the empty box of chocolates and the wilting flowers with a small smile now. Jaemin nodded.

"Maybe we'll meet again someday?" Jeno nodded.

"Maybe sooner than you think." Jeno said before turning and walking off the bus. Jaemin watched him go with a sigh, realizing he was once again alone and not really in the mood to go shopping anymore. So instead he sat there, head against the window as he thought about Jeno and waited for the bus to arrive once more in his neighborhood so he could go home.

🚏

Jaemin sat with his feet dangling over the creek, the log beneath him old and rotting, but he didn't care. He loved the tension it brought knowing the log could snap at any moment. Besides, a fall into the shallow creek wouldn't do much. The most he would be dealing with is splinters from the log.

With a sigh he stood up and continued his journey to the bus stop again. He was excited to see if he could spot Jeno that night.

It had been a couple days since they had met and Jaemin hadn't seen the boy since, but both days he sat waiting, on the bus or the bench at the stop, waiting to see if the other boy would arrive.

He sat down on the bench with a sigh and closed his eyes. He was honestly quite tired right then. He hadn't gotten much sleep the night before and his naps during math weren't cutting it anymore. With one last sigh he let himself relax. Maybe it wouldn't hurt to nap for just a little while..

He didn't mean to let a little while turn to six hours.

Jaemin opened his eyes slowly, blinking a couple of times and snuggling into his pillow, pulling the blanket up more. He closed his eyes again for a moment until he realized something: he didn't bring a pillow. Or a blanket. His eyes snapped open and he sat up straight, realizing who the pillow was and what the blanket was too.

Jeno sat there, head thrown back and mouth open as he slept, arms securely holding the older. Jaemin had the olders jacket acting as a blanket and he realized how cold Jeno must be, sleeping in the cold of the night with a t-shirt and jeans.

In his sleep Jeno pulled the younger close to him again, letting out a small groan and lifting his head again. He closed his mouth and blinked slowly a couple times before meeting Jaemin's gaze with a tired smile.

"I saw you asleep here when I was going home from violin and I didn't just wanna leave you here alone." The older stopped talking, yawned, and nodded. "You looked cold." Jaemin chuckled softly and looked above them to see the sky slowly becoming a milky blue as the first rays of morning splayed across the sky.

The bus rolled up just Then, Jeno standing with a smile.

"Keep the jacket. I'll see you around Jaemin." Jeno said, another cute yawn faking from his mouth as he walked drunkenly into the bus. He watched the doors close slowly behind Jeno and the bus drive down the road in a case. He still hadn't quite registered what just happened, but he knew one thing for sure.

He had finally seen Jeno again, just like he wanted.

🚏

Jaemin couldn't get his thoughts off of Jeno. He knew him and the other boy had only met maybe twice but he definitely knew that whatever he felt, it was more than a desire for friendship.

He even had a dream about the boy which he wasn't sure whether that was good or bad but it happened. They walked up and down the Sandy shores of a beach, the sun slowly rising above the sea as the walked and talked about random things.

He couldn't remember what they spoke about, but whatever it was Jeno always knew how to make Jaemin laugh.

It had been three weeks since the jacket incident and every night that Jaemin went into the city he hoped by so.e miracle that he might see Jeno again. Everytime they found each other it was a little different so far and he was wondering how he would run into the boy today.

His question was answered as he walked onto the bus, the clock striking twelve as his gaze landed on a certain boy with raven hair. Today he was frowning, tears falling down his cheeks as he looked out the window. Jaemin walked over and sat in the seat beside him.

"Jeno what happened." The older turned at the sound of Jaemin's voice, sniffling as he looked at him.

"I was hoping I might see you here tonight.." He said gently, sniffling again. "Me and my mom got in a fight is all..."

"Oh..."

...

"May I ask why..?"

"She wants us to move."

Jaemin froze, feeling as if time had stopped.

"It wouldn't even be that bad if she had told me sooner. There's so much I wish I had done and now there's no time.. This is my last night here Jaemin. I don't know what I'm gonna do..." The younger nodded, trying to fight the tears that threatened to spill from his eyes. For the first time in years he had found someone he could relate to, more than that someone he cared about who cared about him back. He looked up at Jeno again with a forced smile.

"Well then we better make the most of this.. Care to join me for macaroons?"

The two walked from the bus stop to the small convenience store, picking up a box of macaroons and two sodas, and paying. The walked outside and sat on the curb, the box between them as they made small conversation about school.

"I just dont know how my friends are gonna take the fact that I'm about to just up and leave, you know?" Jeno asked. Jaemin nodded, gaze dancing on the passing cars a little ways off. "What about you Jaemin? Do you have many friends at your school?" The older asked. Jaemin swallowed nervously.

"Well I actually dont really have any.." He said softly, playing with his fingers as he spoke. "Most people are either too afraid to talk to me or they know me but dont treat me the same... You were the first person I ever met who....." He paused, trying to discretely wipe the tears that were now falling from his eyes. "Who actually cared about me." He said, his voice breaking at the end. Jeno looked at the younger who was turning to a crying mess beside him. He felt horrible for having to leave the younger now, especially if that's how he thought of him. He moved the box of macaroons and pulled the younger closer to him, hugging him tight so he could cry.

The end was just like the beginning.

But it was strange to Jeno how much he hurt seeing Jaemin cry like this. He always felt bad for his friends when they cried but he never felt like he could cry with them.

Right now, he felt like he could.

And he did.

They cried together, whispering small words of comfort to each other until the bus came by and they both got on, sitting beside each other with a sniffle. Jaemin held Jeno's hand tightly, leaning his head on the olders shoulder and closing his eyes. It was so short lived but he would never forget it.

In all his years of coming here he would never forget Lee Jeno, the boy he somehow always found when he needed him most.

🚏

It had been three years and he was still thinking about the boy as he walked down the street from the bus stop to the convenience store. He thought about where they sat on the curb to eat their macaroons and drink their sodas. He thought about how Jeno had been there for him when he had been there for the older. Thought about how much he missed the other.

He missed Jeno so much.

He walked into the store with his head down, making quick work of buying his soda and leaving. He had left earlier that night so that he could get to sleep early. He had been doing that a lot lately, no longer seeing as much fun in going out and just wanting to sleep all the time.

He got on the bus with a heavy sigh, cracking open his soda and going to the same seat he and Jeno used to sit in. He took a sip of the carbonated beverage and looked out the window as he waited for the bus to continue moving, but before it did, he felt a pair of eyes on him. Turning to see who had just gotten onto the bus, his eyes widened, so many emotions flooding him in that moment that he didn't know what to do.

So he just stared.

He watched the tall boy with raven hair approach, a box of macaroons in his hold and watched in awe as a smile made its way onto the olders face, reaching his eyes and turning to crescents just like the moon outside.

Jaemin swore it felt like time stopped, but at that moment it struck midnight.

"J-Jeno? How did you- where have you-" the younger struggled to form a sentence, so many thoughts entering his mind. But Jeno had been thinking about this for a while. So he was quick to answer.

"I was just looking for my future boyfriend so I could share these with him?" Jeno said in a questioning tone as he sat beside Jaemin and opened the box, handing one to Jaemin with a smile. "Late night macaroon run, you know?"
