Chapter 28: Seeking the truth

We began our drive back to Insomnia as everyone is worried about the Crown City. Their auras were filled with grey and red colors. I assume is depression for hearing the Crown City was attacked which was part of the plan but that feeling is filling me up as well. The red color is emitting from mostly, Noctis. This confused me of why his aura is wild and ready to burst into something ugly. A perfect example is that he was stating a point about the ceasefire being a lie and..it was. However, the plan was to steal the crystal but I have a feeling that wasn't all of the plan. My only mission was to gain the prince's trust and I have. I should've have killed them all by now. I didn't because...I don't know why. Was it because there was a glitch in my program or...Did I make my choice? My database of memories was recalling all the moments with King Regis ever so slowly. Many memories that made me feel something...warm and...longing. These feelings are getting stronger than before.

"Up ahead!" Prompto said as Ignis stopped the car, the road to Insomnia is heavily guarded with foot soldiers and machines

"They set up an inspection point." Gladiolus said, "If the road ahead is blocked, we find a way around."

Ignis turned the car to the left side where a dirt road leads us away the inspection point. We got to the end of the road and we all got out of the car.

"Let's take a detour. There ought to be a decent vantage point up ahead." Ignis said as we starting to up the stairs that lead to the right side of this outpost building, we were closing in on Niefliem soldiers and Gladiolus asked,

"There they are. Wanna take them out?"

"Oh yeah. Those scrapheaps are gonna wish they had the treaty to protect them." Noctis replied as we went into the combat, the boys were fighting the soldiers and I just walked forward. After the third step, my hand took my sword with a tight grip and slashed at the enemy. I returned the sword to the holster and the soldier bleed out. As they fell to the ground, the boys looked at me as I continued to walk forward and they followed suit. With every group of soldiers, we encountered I released my blade on them even though I serve the empire. Right now, I was livid for no reason. With each blow, I did, left dents on the ground and structure for the boys to be awed. As I destroyed the last group of soldiers, I continued to walk and Prompto mumbled,

"Damn...Alice...is not...happy."

"What gave that away?" Gladio said quietly as they continued to follow me

"Remind me not to anger Alice," Ignis added as he took one last glance at the damage I did

"I don't blame her," Noctis said as we reached the point that gave us a clear view of the Crown City, my eyes saw the ever-growing white smoke that clouded Insomnia from our vision and we began to hear the news from Prompto's phone.

"As the ceasefire discussions between the two nations, all provisional terms have been suspended in light of recent developments. Moreover, in the wake of the news of King Regis's death, we've now received word that Crown Prince Noctis and Oracle Lunafreya have also been pronounced dead." The announcer said as Gladiolus commented to keep the news on, Prompto dropped the phone and Noctis shouted,

"Don't bother!"

Ignis helped Prompto get his phone as everyone was trying to call someone from Insomnia but I know it was meaningless. The attack had almost every soldier and machine the city by now. From this point of view, my scanners hacked any functional camera in the city to take a look at the damage and I saw it. Death and blood merge in a disgusting harmony. Many people were shot and getting killed by the soldiers. Some survivors were running but it was pointless. Suddenly, the machine ships flew above us heading to Insomnia and Noctis said,

"H-Hello? Cor?"

From what I could hear from a short distance, Cor is telling me a location and the last part I got was something about King Regis being dead. That only shocked Noctis for him to look at his fallen home with no return.

"What did the Marshal have to say?" Ignis broke the silence

"He said he will be in Hammerhead." Noctis replied not bothering to look at us

"And the King?" Gladiolus asked as Noctis is silence, they looked at their home that has white smoke covering their vision and their colors were a darker grey. I think it means...sadness.

"Let's go." I said as the boys looked at me with a surprised face "We asked the Immortal our questions then...fight."

They didn't argue with me as we made our way back to the car, we went to Hammerhead to find out the Marshal left but Paw-Paw had a message for us. We went to him as he and Noctis had a chat. I toned out the conversation as my eyes were on the footage I collected in Insomnia. This made me think a lot lately about my...creation. However, I brushed the thought aside for now as Paw-Paw said to go to the tombs which confused me. We drove to our next location that was northwest. We got to the Prairie Outpost with hunters around the area and I met a new person called 'Monica'. She reported that most of the Crownsguard didn't make it but Iris was heading to Lestallum. After that, we headed towards the tomb by foot in the afternoon. We had monster trouble but nothing we can't handle. After a few fights, we made it to the ruins and my scanners were acting strange again. My eyes were seeing different things. One minute I see a tomb but the next was...the tomb with...darkness covering the building. Ignis placed a hand on me to see if I was alright and I nodded in response. We continued forward and entered the tomb.

"Marshal," Ignis said as we saw Cor inside the tomb near an elegant coffin, his eyes went to the group and me.

"Ah at last, your highness," Cor said as we gathered near the sarcophagus

"Yeah, mind telling me why I'm here?" Noctis gave a sharp tone with a hint of distorting in his voice

"The power of the kings passed from the old to the new though bonding souls. One such soul lies before you. To claim your forebearer's power is your birthright and duty as King." Cor replied as there was silence until Noctis said,

"My duty as King of what?"

I raised an eyebrow at Noctis's words for his aura is turning grey to red

"Now is not the time to question your calling. A king is sworn to protect his people." Cor said calmly

"Yet he chose to protect only one prince. Was that his calling? Forsake the masses to spare his son?" Noctis commented angrily

"How long will you remain the protected? The king entrusted the role of protector to you." Cor commented back looking a little pissed

"Entrusted to me? Then why didn't he tell me that? Why did smile as I left? Why?!" Noctis leaned on the coffin by one of his hands as his aura is chaotic with red, grey and blue. Then his friends became the same colors and I finally had enough.

"Noctis, your a king, ain't you?" I said as everyone looked at me while I walked to him "Wise-man must have known what he was getting himself into and knew what his choices were. Wasn't a fool, Noctis. Before King, he is your father." I said the last word with emotion than I intended and Noctis noticed that with a raised eyebrow.

"Your lucky that your father saved you and has hope in you. If he entrusted this role of protector to you then you must finish where he left off. I'll be there to help because wise-man told me that I'm in charge of you still." I finished as he let out a quiet laugh that was short and stared at me.

"I..guess he left me no choice," Noctis said as his aura seemed to be one color now that is white..meaning hope that spread to his friends even Cor. The Marshal looked a little shocked at my speech and gave a small smile. Noctis turned his attention to the coffin as he held his hand out, the blade that the sculpture held began to fly up with crystal shards surround it and went to Noctis. He places a hand on his heart as the crystal shards surround him now and Cor said,

"The power of the Kings goes with you, your majesty."

Suddenly, I heard a voice that said come as my feet were leading me past the coffin to the wall that held a sculpture of a woman holding a claymore sword and I was drawn to this voice as if.

"Alice? What's wrong?" Noctis asked as they saw me go towards the statue

"Ah. You have arrived." What the hell??

"Here..." I said as the voice replied in a murmur but I understand anyway Why am I saying that?

"Here?" Noctis got confused

"I'm here," I said loudly as the statue shined in a light of red, the shine last about 2 minutes and before me is a ghostly form of a woman in armor

"What is that?" Prompto freaking out as the boys looked alarmed, I backed away but the ghost lady went inside me and fell to the ground. My body began to feel different things such as something...warm and cold. The boys went to me as I began to breathe heavy for a moment than I returned to a normal breath.

"What happened?" I asked in confusion because I have no fucking idea.

"We don't know, Miss Alice. Are you alright?" Ignis asked as I nodded slowly feeling the cold ground for the first time. As Noctis helped me up, Cor went to me and grabbed my arm. He eyes saw a tattoo of a sword and a banner. I didn't remember that tattoo until Cor said,

"I knew."

"Knew what, Immortal?" I asked

"About you. This is proof of what you are." Cor replied as everyone else got confused

"Alice is what, Cor?" Noctis asked in curiosity

"Alice, you're a Grand Master of Insomnia."

What the fuck is a Grand Master of Insomnia?
