Chapter Two: Into the Trailer

Theresa watched the police department disappear and then watched the downtown disappear. Through the window, she saw her surroundings grow darker and more remote. She was really starting to get a bad feeling, now.

It was quiet enough to hear a pin drop which made everyone more uncomfortable. Hank decided to turn on the radio.

The first station he turned to was an oldies rock station.

What kind of music do kids listen to these days? Hank wondered, thinking about the young, troubled girl in the back of his car. She kind of looked like a heavy metal kind of girl, but Hank couldn't be sure.

Eventually, Hank found a pop station that seemed to do the trick. However, soon after putting it on, the song that had been playing ended and a new one took its place.

Nick kind of liked the tune, but nearly had a heart attack when he started listening to the lyrics.

"Here we go again,

We're sick like animals,

We play pretend.

You're just a cannibal,

And I'm afraid I won't get out alive.

No, I won't sleep toni-"

The song was, "Animal" by Neon Trees.

Nick quickly reached over and shut off the radio. He knew that the song would probably hit a nerve with Theresa. He sighed with relief when the song quit playing.

"What are you doing?" Hank asked, confused.

"Nothing," Nick said. "I don't want to listen to the radio."

Hank made a face. He was a music lover and didn't see the meaning of the song that Nick had seen.

Like animals... Theresa thought. I won't get out alive... No, I won't sleep. Theresa was trying not to pay attention to the lyrics but was not having success. She sat in the backseat, cringing at every verse. It kept reminding her of the life that she lived and hated. She wanted to ask the world's creepiest cops for a favor, but couldn't bring herself to do it. This song is torture, she moaned in her mind. The lyrics were driving her insane. She was hoping that they wouldn't trigger another violent hallucination.

Suddenly, she looked up and saw the cop in the passenger's seat eyeing her with horror through the side view mirror. He quickly looked away and shut off the radio.

Theresa was happy the radio was off but was growing more confused every minute.

She wondered, How did he know that that song would bother me?

The young Grimm couldn't make sense of either cops' actions.

Eventually, the group made their way to the storage yard. The car weaved around abandoned buildings, old cars, and the like. There was not a single person to be seen.

What is this place? Theresa questioned.

The Charger came to a slow stop near a metallic trailer. Hank and Nick quickly got out of the car. Nick opened the young Grimm's door and said, "Get out," sternly.

Theresa looked around herself. Her stomach dropped.

She felt like she was in danger.

Here she was with two grown men - cops that didn't arrest her when they had plenty of evidence. They hadn't filed any paperwork; in fact, there would be no record that she was ever taken into the precinct. No one would notice if she went missing...

And these cops had been acting weird all day, talking about things she didn't understand, not following standard procedure.

Like when they were driving around town, wondering what they should do with her, and one of the cops said he wasn't going to arrest her. Wasn't that his job?

And there was not a soul around to witness what the trio would be doing, now. No witnesses at all...

Theresa didn't know what the cops planned to do, but she knew that, whatever it was, it was not normal; they didn't drive her to an abandoned storage yard for no reason. They were going to do something.

Theresa felt absolutely helpless. She was handcuffed in a car in a place where no one could see her, or hear her if she screamed. She was completely alone with two big, strong men with questionable intentions. Theresa didn't know what to do. She couldn't run. She couldn't hide. She couldn't even fight if she needed to.

I should have stayed at the precinct, she groaned in her head.

Nick was still staring at her, and she was beyond preoccupied with fear and worry. She cautiously began to step out of the car. Nick grabbed her arm and started pulling her towards the creepy trailer.

"There's something I want to show you in there," Nick said.

Like what? Trubel questioned skeptically. She struggled against him, but it was no use. He was holding onto her tight. What are they going to do? Rape me? Kill me? Kidnap me? What? She wondered. The only thing she knew for sure was that she didn't trust them at all.

"Yeah, sure there is," she protested angrily and skeptically. "I'm not going in there with you," she warned. She was not going down without a fight, and she made sure that Nick knew that.

Ooh, Hank thought, mentally cringing as he watched the scared young girl freak out and start struggling against Nick. This looks bad.

"I don't blame her," Hank spoke up. "I wouldn't go in there with us either."

If that girl wasn't traumatized before, she definitely is now, Hank thought.

Nick took mental stock of the situation. He didn't arrest a young girl when he should have. Instead, he dragged her out, in handcuffs, to a creepy, desolate storage yard where he was trying to coax her into a trailer with him and another grown man.

Nick had been so carried away with his quest that he hadn't realized how creepy he was being.

Nick understood, so he said, "You don't have to go anywhere," to the young Grimm and walked over to unlock the trailer.

That was still creepy, Nick thought to himself.

Maybe their elusiveness was for the best. If they told her everything too soon, she might think they're crazy, too. They also didn't want her to get any ideas and try to kill them. Nick and Hank both knew she was capable of causing some serious damage.

That's why Hank grabbed her arm aggressively. He couldn't let her take off before they got to the point of their whole adventure.

Nick stepped into the trailer and disappeared.

What is going on? Theresa thought. She just wanted to escape, to get away and go back to her crappy life until someone finally killed her.

"What kind of cops are you, anyway?" Theresa demanded, still trying to pull away from Hank. It was strange. She felt like she was in danger, she was afraid, and she had no comprehension of what was going on. But she looked at Hank and he didn't appear malicious.

"That's a good question. I wish I had a good answer," he said. He sounded like he meant it. He wasn't quite friendly, but he didn't seem bad. He did keep the other guy from taking her into the trailer with him.

She stared at Hank somewhat suspiciously. Who are you? she wondered.

She continued to look at him until she heard the door of the trailer open. The other cop stepped out holding something.

What is that? Theresa thought

"Take her cuffs off," Nick said.

What?! Theresa was extremely confused. After all of this, you're letting me go?

"You sure?" Hank asked.

"Yeah. She needs to see this for herself," Nick replied.

Hank unlocked the cuffs and watched the Grimm, expecting her to make some kind of move.

What is going on?! She begged in her head.

She debated on whether or not to take off running or to actually look at what the cop was handing her.

Curiosity got the best of her. He drove her all the way out here and risked getting himself in trouble to show her this one item.

"See what?" she asked. Seriously, what could possibly be so important?

She took the book and the man who had been holding it said, "Look at it."

She eyed Nick suspiciously, and then Hank, before eventually looking at the book. She bounced it around in her hands, first, to see if it weighed enough to use it as a weapon and, second, to get it balanced so she could open it up.

She looked at the open page briefly, but it was enough to understand that it was a very, very strange book. It was also somehow familiar.

She was shocked by the writing, the entries, and the animal people that she saw on the pages. She was beyond shocked, actually, and stared at the pages, frozen in place, before looking up at the cop who was watching her. He looked at her with sincerity.

Theresa quickly turned her attention back to the pages and started flipping through them. She went back and forth between the pictures of familiar looking beings. She paused at a picture titled, "Steinadler," whatever that meant. It was a bird person that Theresa had sworn she had seen before at a coffee shop.

She didn't get it. She was crazy and only she could see what she saw, so how did this random cop have a book full of her hallucinations when he only saw her journal a few hours ago.

No, Theresa didn't understand.

"What is this?" she asked, looking at Nick with a confused, horrified, in-shock kind of expression.

"The truth," Nick responded earnestly. "That no one's ever told you before. There's a lot more of it in there," he added seriously, pointing to the trailer. "You need to go in there to-"

Theresa didn't waste any time. Without any hesitation at all, she quickly shut the book, shoved it into Nick's chest, and jogged to the trailer, climbing inside.

Nick and Hank found Theresa flipping through more pages in another Grimm book when they followed her into the trailer.

"What do you mean this is the truth?" she asked, looking at Nick and Hank.

Theresa and Nick were staring at each other meaningfully. They somehow felt connected, like they understood each other.

Nick didn't look at Hank when Hank offered, "I'll get us some coffee. This is gonna take a while."

Hank disappeared out the door of the trailer.

Nick began explaining what a Grimm was.
