As of today 9/25/23 I am asking for assistance with a certain plot event I plan to do in one of my Hunger Games fics (not going to say which yet). I normally don't go this route to ask for help but myself and my friend who I collaborate with are stumped.

So, in the Quarter Quell of Catching Fire, there are other sectors of the jungle that were not explored and did not have a canon idea of what happened during that hour. I've made up my own events to happen in different sectors that were unknown.

Please please please do not take my idea I'm about to share!

One of the ideas is in one sector during the hour there are these pretty flowers that bloom. However, they release a gas that when you smell it or get a whiff of it straight in your face, you will start to have violent hallucinations and be more prone to anger.

Now, I like this idea but idk how I want the characters to figure out how to snap out of it. Obviously, the effects will wear when the hour is up, but I wanted ideas for how they snap out of it before the hour is up. I had some ideas but idk how well they'll work. Here are some that I came up with but am not sold on.

- Pain, like how in Teen Wolf pain allowed them to snap out of the hallucinations. "Pain makes you human," however, as they're turning on each other and fighting each other I imagine they'll already be feeling pain from each other's blows.

- Heat, another Teen Wolf reference where heat knocked the werewolves out of it in Motel California's episode. However, I've already used heat for something in another sector for this story and I don't want to be redundant.

- Knocking them out, everyone will be concussed!!! Then how will they realistically do in the arena?

- Sever the nerve, like from
Black Widow when Natasha severs her olfactory nerve so she doesn't smell the pheromones from the bad guy, they could sever their nerves to stop the smell. However, I imagine that would also leave them concussed and struggling to fight in the arena the next few days.

Big sigh. So if you have any other ideas please let me know! I like the severing of the nerve but I worry it's unrealistic for them to walk away with just a broken nose and headache rather than a serious concussion.
