Prologue
In a world where hope flickers like a candle in the wind, the pursuit of justice and integrity often faces daunting challenges. Communities flourish through the dedication of individuals committed to uplifting others, yet these efforts can be threatened by the shadows of corruption and power. As people strive to create positive change, they must confront not only external adversities but also the internal conflicts that arise when faced with danger. It is a reminder that the fight for what is right is often fraught with sacrifice, resilience, and the unwavering belief that love and courage can prevail against all odds.
"Leejiye, aapki chai," Siya said softly, her smile warm and inviting as she handed Ram a tray of tea. Standing before him in her vibrant, newly-wed attire, she exuded grace and love. Ram couldn't help but be in awe of the incredible woman who had just become his life partner. He gestured for her to place the tray in front of him, his gaze lingering on her face.
As Siya turned to leave, Ram's hand instinctively reached out, gently catching her wrist. She stopped, her breath hitching at the tender touch. His eyes, filled with affection, silently invited her to stay, to sit beside him. She looked into his gaze, unable to resist the pull of his silent plea. The bangles on her wrist jingled softly as she stood frozen in the moment.
With a gentle tug, Ram guided her to sit in the chair beside him. Her face lit up, the love they shared mirrored in her glowing expression. Her smile—it made his world brighter, filling every corner of his heart with warmth. He brought her hand to his lips and placed a soft kiss on it, sending a shiver down her spine.
"Chai aap mere saath piyengi," he asked, his voice tender, as he poured her a cup. They shared the tea quietly, their love speaking in the silence between sips. Siya served him the snacks she had lovingly prepared, and with a playful smile, Ram broke a piece and brought it to her lips.
"Offo! Maine itne pyaar se aapke liye banaye hain aur aap mujhe chakha rahe hain?" she teased, her eyes twinkling.
"Aap hain hi itni pyaari, aap par pyaar nahi lutaunga kya main?" Ram replied, his voice soft yet full of affection, his eyes never leaving hers.
She fed him a small bite, her hand trembling slightly. "Chakh ke bataiye kaisa bana hai," she asked, her voice carrying the sweetness of their bond.
"Bas aapke pyaare haathon se pyara pyara," Ram said, savoring the taste, but more so the love behind it.
They shared a lovely breakfast, their quiet conversation punctuated by soft laughter and tender glances. When Siya stood to return the tray to the kitchen, Ram caught her hand again, but this time he pulled her gently toward him. She stumbled softly, landing on his lap, a small gasp escaping her lips.
Lost in the depths of his gaze, Siya found herself drawn closer as Ram leaned in, his lips just inches from hers.
"Arey baba, chhodiye, bahot kaam hai mujhe," she whispered, blushing deeply, trying to pull away, but her heart didn't quite agree.
"Hmmm... aaj hum aapko nahi choddenge," he murmured, pulling her into a tender embrace, his arms wrapped protectively around her.
She smiled and playfully tried to get up, but his arms held firm. "Jaiye aap, khud hi toh jaa rahe hain humein chhod kar," she teased, her eyes twinkling as she looked into his.
"Maine kaha toh tha, aap chaliye. Aap taiyar hi nahi hain," he replied, tightening his hold on her as if trying to memorize the feel of her close.
"Aur aap ruk nahi sakte?" she asked, her gaze searching his.
He shook his head. "I'm gonna miss this beautiful face," he whispered, his voice soft with longing, before placing a gentle kiss on her forehead.
They stayed like that for a moment, wrapped in each other's embrace, the world outside forgotten, their love the only thing that mattered.
Ram adjusted his tie as Siya helped him slip into his formal suit. Her delicate hands straightened the collar, and she handed him his handkerchief, lunch, and watch, each item passed to him with care. He smiled at her, appreciating her attention to every detail. With a sigh, he picked up his suitcase and walked toward the door, ready to leave.
Just as his hand reached for the doorknob, he heard her soft voice. "Suniye..."
Before he could turn, he felt Siya's arms wrap around him from behind, her embrace warm and tight. Ram froze, then gently placed his hand over hers, pulling her closer to his chest. Turning slightly, he looked down at her, surprised to see the glisten of tears in her eyes.
"Kya hua, Siya?" he asked softly, his voice filled with concern.
She pressed her cheek against his back, her tears spilling over. "Aap jaa rahe hain," she whispered. "Mujhe bilkul achha nahi lag raha."
Ram sighed and turned fully, pulling her into his arms. "Arey, tumhari yeh achhi zid hai... chalo na tum mere saath," he said, wiping a tear from her cheek with his thumb.
She shook her head, her voice barely above a whisper. "Nahi, main yahan hi rukungi." Despite her words, the tears didn't stop.
"Siya..." He cupped her face, his fingers gently tracing her forehead. "Achha, thik hai... rona band karo, varna main kaise jaaunga?"
Siya sniffled, managing a weak smile through her tears. "Aap jaldi aana," she said, her eyes pleading.
"Haan baba, main jaldi aaunga," he assured her, leaning in to kiss her forehead gently.
But her worry was far from eased. "Aap jaa rahe hain toh mujhe bilkul achha nahi lag raha," she repeated, her voice breaking.
Ram chuckled softly, brushing away another tear. "Siya... main aa jaunga. Aur hum video call pe roz baat karenge na?" His words tried to offer comfort, but the tears lingered in her eyes.
Just then, a voice interrupted the tender moment. "Ahem! Ye kya, Collector sahab? Abhi toh ek mahina bhi nahi hua shaadi ko aur aapne hamari bitiya ko rula diya?"
Siya turned around, startled, and a smile instantly brightened her face. "Bauji!" she exclaimed, running to embrace her father, the weight of her tears suddenly lifted.
Her father hugged her warmly before looking toward Ram. "Pranam, Damad ji," he said, joining his hands.
Ram, still holding his suitcase, quickly returned the gesture. "Pranam, Bauji."
The elder man looked between them, feigning disapproval. "Lekin ye kya sun rahe hain hum? Aapne humari bitiya ko rula diya?"
"Bauji..." Siya protested, giving her father a playful glare.
Ram couldn't help but smile. "Aapki bitiya meri ek baat nahi sunti, Bauji. Itne din se keh raha hoon mere saath chale, lekin mana kar diya. Ab main jaa raha hoon toh ro rahi hain."
Her father laughed gently, patting Siya's head. "Arey bitiya, ye baat toh galat hai. Damad ji jaa rahe hain, toh kya ab apne Bauji ko bhool jaogi? Chalo, aansu poncho aur achhe se vida karo Damad ji ko."
Siya nodded, drying her tears with a sniffle. She gave Ram a soft, lingering smile before hugging him one last time.
"Jaldi wapas aana," she whispered, her voice steadying.
Ram kissed her forehead again. "Bilkul."
With one last look, Siya watched him walk out the door. Little did she know, this parting would be more significant than either of them could have imagined, as storm clouds began to gather on the horizon, ready to test the strength of their love.
