No need to unbury tragedy of lineage

What is in the blood stays

NARRATOR:
You were too late.
(Well. Curses. This feels familiar...)

The stories that hover over the House of Black never fail to take over a room. Whispers of them lurk like the misguided ghosts who are burdened with their blood-alive or buried. For tradition or tact (or both) Eve Peregrine does not carry their name the way she is burdened by their blood. She is fated to be attached their story no matter how much she tries to burn the pages.

Here is how it goes: Eve does not belong to those ancient and noble folk. She does however, suffer those unfortunate and unmixed genes thrown on her by the very same figures she'd disown. Their ancestral ways have doomed Eve to an existence where she must always 'mind her words' ("Charmspeak? Cursed power, that it is. Heard it runs thick through the rotted branches of that noble lot...") and never give in to the power lying supine on her tongue. For Eve, its all begun to feel like a betrayal. But how can one be betrayed by kin you never knew? Eve doesn't know... The thing she does know, is that fourteen-year-old witchhood should not feel so damn foreboding all the time. Coming face to face with your uncle who was wrongly imprisoned in Azkaban should not feel like this - like witnessing what can happen when you fight against evil. Being good should not have cost a life and much more but, Eve senses it always will.

Her thirteenth year was a series of panic attacks, wary looks from boys who used to like her, and a swift expulsion from Beauxbatons-Eve, having a knack in rooting for losing dogs, vehemently claimed the issue was her defending another student, but since Eve was the only one of ten without a single dueling scar, the reasoning was moot to the tied-hands of Headmistress Maxime-with no other school on the globe (save Durmstrang but like, Merlin, no) willing to take in the Charmspeaker niece of Sirius Black.

Except Hogwarts.

Of course.

The school where her sweet cousins reign supreme. The place Eve's mother and that family all attended. Where her older half-brother flounces around, totally indifferent to her existence-but fuck it, it's fine. Eve will just do as her dad says and be cool, mind her words, and think before taking her wand out of her boot or whatever. She's determined to make these pages count. Change the way their story is told. Earn the noble and get rid of the ancient.

The thing is...

That boy, the famous and ill-fated one, becomes something of a reoccurring sight for Eve. Not that she minds. He's got that underdog thing about him that Eve feels so grand about being so near within reach. Her uncle Sirius pulls her aside to tell her to be ... careful with Harry. Not for her sake, but for his; he's got their world to save one day. Fair enough. They see a hero in him.

All Eve sees most days is this: Harry Potter, messy-haired, the tips of his ears reddening at her smile-a boy only slightly wary of her.

(Well, Eve realizes, This feels familiar.)

AUTHORS NOTE

(read please)

𓃠 Hi all, another story. Back to Hogwarts here we go but I will be damned if I don't finish this. I will. I must. You may remember this plot before haha but I've tweaked it. I will preface by saying this godforsaken series will always be a dark little cloud but I will go ahead and say how I don't care for the She Who Must Not Be Named perspective of her own series but I do love how others have made it into our own little magical thing - a place where terfs like JKR and all her hateful rhetoric are not allowed. Fuck her.

𓃠 I've always been intrigued by the little extra magic some witches/wizards are born with (ex... Metamorphmagus, Parseltongue) so in this world of Noble Lot, there are other ultra rare phenomena magical folk can be born with which you'll read about as the story progresses. Here, it is mainly a genetic abnormality, partially contributed to the inbreeding of the House of Black and the other Sacred Twenty-Eight. Because JKR being weird with never showing any consequence of that pureblood practice is just so unbelievable. Eve's ability is basically Charmspeak (which is what it'll be called here, too) but on a higher plane - if you've ever seen Return to Halloweentown and the whole necklace called the Gift that could control people with a single vocal command? That's basically what Eve has but instead of a necklace it's a literal power in her words if she so chooses to use it. It's totally teetering on a curse since she does have the power always trying to leak into every word she speaks-very problematic given as it's basically Imperio....

𓃠 If you're confused on the my ver. of the House of Black I got you.... Basically, it makes sense to me that there are different branches of the Black Family but not to take away from their super ick inc*stuous practices instead to just show how bonkers it is with perspective. The 'main' branch would have been Orion & Walburga-who produced Sirius and Marcela and Regulus (played by Timothee my babe) with Marcela being the eldest... Also, yes, Oberon and Dain have biological children as men there was absolutely no MPreg ghfhfjfj it was simply all to do with magic like, this is a world where No Nosed Snake Faced Fascists live... magic can surely conjure babies for gay couples, too. Because I say so. My word is God. OK. Glad to clarify, sorry if it's convoluted but it absolutely makes sense in my mind!!!!!

𓃠 Inspo for this story mainly focuses on family dynamics and first love. Glue Song by Beabadoobee and Clairo is so EveHarry coded. Harry needs a bit of reprieve/sunshine (sorry Hinny still ily) who can be both reliable and someone for him to protect at times - also a light that can see him through all his Voldemort Personality issues. As always, lot of House Stark hat-tips from the ASOIAF novels in regards to the family of Oberon and Dain + Saul and Eve being more integrated even though I know we have the Weasleys being the example of a good family, there can never be too many. Saul Peregrine is very much an amalgamation of Ned Stark/Jack Pearson/Rick Grimes... DILF nation if you will.

𓃠 Content Warnings. As always, read at your own discretion. Mentions of genocide, murder, descriptions of violence, eugenic ideology and general racism; war, PTSD, mental health issues, past circumstances of child abuse, child neglect & mentions of incestous practices; torture, violence against children, hit-men, and body horror; hospitalization, hate speeches & kidnapping, slight gore, brief mentions of self-harm.

𓃠 Huge thank you to everyone who cheered on my MB and told me how excited they were for this story, I hope it's up to the hype...♡ But as always an even grander thank you to my sugar honey cookie baby dowagers for layout inspo and just general loveliness, Soren, MWAH!! You're one of my biggest cheerleaders and I am yours always!!! Love you and that beautiful brain!!!! ⸜(。˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝
