Part 4

We got back to the castle and started heading to the dinning hall. I started hearing a voice call out to us, one I could recognize anywhere. "Arthur, Elizabeth wait," we turned around to find Charles running toward us. When he made it to us he said, "It's almost time for supper."

"I'll leave you two alone and go on ahead then," Arthur says with a smile.

Charles and I both at the time said, "No!"

To which I say, "I mean if we were to go in alone together people would think wrongly of it."

"Right," Charles says while nodding in agreement with me.

"Alright, then I'll stay and all three of us could walk in together," Arthur replied looking a little confused. He then suddenly asked, “Elizabeth, what are you going to do with the crown, the king did give it to you personally?”

“And my mother picked it out because it is special to her and hoped you would like it,” Charles says.

“Well it’s not like I can keep it , I’m running away. It’s not like I can take it with me. I’ll just leave it in my room.”

”And how do you think your father will react to you running away? Especially if you get caught?”

"If he ever found out, then he wouldn’t be able to find me, unless I get caught and have to come back here. If that happens, he’ll be furious with me, yell, and then lock me in a tower for a day or two. The real question is, what would Edward do?”

He already knows you’re going to run and I may have told him he should dig a hole in the road for you to fall in, to keep you here.”

“Why would you do that?!” I asked angrily.

“He asked me what to do and I panicked. So just avoid the hole, at least I warned you about it ahead of time.”

“OH, like that’s helpful,” I replied sarcastically, “There’s a million different things you could’ve said that would have actually been useful to me.”

“It’s not my fault I can’t think of good ideas quickly.”

Just as I am about to answer back, Arthur interrupts saying, “Enough! I know you two love each other, but that means you need to have lovers quarrels all the time. Now we are about to go to dinner, so I suggest you stop fighting so no one suspects anything.”

“Because we weren’t going to stop fighting unless you told us to.”

“Why are you so stubborn to think you have to start an argument with me just because I tell you to do something?”

“He’s your brother, you should listen and do whatever he says,'' Charles said, but I didn’t hear a word he said. I was staring up at his shining sapphire eyes. I had forgotten what they were like up until that moment. If only I had listened, I would’ve known what kind of person he truly was. Arthur must have noticed, because I wasn’t fighting back or offended in any way.

‘’Alright, then let’s go inside before another fight starts, please,” Arthur insisted, breaking me from my trance.

“Fine,” I say as I start to open the door. Arthur leans over whispering in my ear asking me if I had heard what Charles said. I didn’t answer, instead I walked through the door.

“I’ll tell you after dinner,” he said when he caught up to me.

“No, I don’t need to know,” I said almost as if insisting Charles would never say or do anything that could hurt me.

The food was all set out and my parents, the queen, and Edward were already sitting, waiting for the tree of us to arrive. After realizing we were walking to the table, my father and Edward stood up. Edward pulled out my chair for me and then we all sat down.

The conversation was dreadful. Everyone was talking about how good the marriage would be. I was quiet for the whole time. I only smiled and nodded once in a while. When the meal finally ended, I went back to my room and did my nightly routine like always. Once my ladies maid left, I changed into clothes that would be comfortable enough to travel in and put at least half of my hair up to keep it out of my face. I waited until 12:42 to finally leave, as the guards were changing positions. I managed to hide from every person who might try to stop me and made it out of the castle through a secret tunnel in one of the towers that I had discovered one day. I got about a mile away from the castle and was so excited I had succeeded in escaping that I had twirled around. I wasn't aware of my surroundings and didn't pay attention at all that while I was spinning, I fell into a deep hole and screamed as one normally does when they unexpectedly fall into a hole while trying to run away.
