Part 16
I woke up the next morning and my lady in waiting helped me put on a lovely red dress for the day. She then did my hair the way Kate's was last night. Although I usually never eat breakfast, today I decided it would be best, since I didn't really eat anything at the ball. I thanked my lady in waiting, put on my shoes, and left the room. Just outside my door was Edward, who had a picnic basket in his hands. We walked towards each other and then stopped when we were close enough.
I asked him, " What exactly are you doing?"
"Well we were going to go to that one secret place after breakfast today, so I thought why not have a picnic there instead," he said.
"Oh, that does sound nice."
"I'm so glad you said that. I was worried you might not like the change in the plans."
"No, it's a good change, I think."
"Well should we go then?"
"Oh, right. Yes, of course."
"You'll have to lead the way."
"Right. Come along then."
We left the castle, and started walking in the direction of the river. It didn't take long to get there, as it isn't too far from the castle. The main thing that keeps it hidden is a wall of trees and shrubs. Most people don't care to look beyond them. They just think all there will be is more trees and shrubs. When we got there, Edward was looking around completely marveled by the scenery.
"Wow! This is even better than looking at it through a window!" he said while smiling really wide.
He set down a piece of cloth for us to sit on and started pulling food out of the basket. There was a wide variety of fruit and pancakes wrapped in another smaller cloth. Then he pulled out two plates and two forks. He asked me, "What would you like?"
"Um, I'm not sure."
"Well you have to choose something."
"How about deciding for me, I'm sure it will be delicious."
"Alright."
He put a pancake on one of the plates and then arranged strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries on top. He handed me the plate, with a fork and said, "I hope you enjoy it."
"Thank you, I'm sure I will," I replied.
He got his food and then we both started eating. It was some of the best food I've had in a long time. It was so simple, yet delicious. We finished eating and he asked me, "So how was it?"
"It was surprisingly amazing!"
"Really, it's just pancakes and fruit."
"I know, but I guess it's been a while since I've actually had breakfast."
"Oh, right. I forgot about that."
"I'm glad you did."
There was a pause and we didn't talk, but then he said, " So I noticed there's a swing here. How long has that been here."
"It wasn't always there. Charles had it added; he barely showed it to me yesterday."
"You came here yesterday?"
"Yes, very early in the morning. Just after we got back from being stuck in a hole actually."
"Oh, really. I thought you went straight to your room."
"I was on my way, but the. Charles stopped me and kind of forced me here. I tried walking away from him and going to my room to rest, but then he grabbed my wrist and dragged along."
"He didn't hurt you, did he?"
"No, nothing like that, he actually just proposed to me."
"Oh."
"Yeah, I wasn't expecting it at all and it might've been better had I actually wanted to come here with him first."
"But you're engaged now. That's the important part right?"
"Yes, suppose it is. Why did you ask about the swing?"
"Oh, that's right. Well I wanted to make sure it would be safe if you wanted to swing on it."
"Why would I want to swing on it?"
"Who knows, it could be fun."
" I think you might be right, but I still don't know if trust it, even if it is new.''
"Why not just try it out?"
"Alright, fine."
"Good"
I walked over to the swing and got on it. Edward walked behind me, took the ropes of the swing, lifted the swing up, and then let go. I quickly grabbed hold of the ropes. When I went back to him he pushed on my back. He did this until I began to get a little too high. Then he just watched as the swing started to slow down. Eventually it slowed down enough for me to be able to put my feet down and make it come to a complete stop. He then looked at me and said, "That wasn't too bad, right?"
I laughed and replied, "No. It was quite fun actually."
"And you're perfectly safe.''
"And I'm perfectly safe."
"That's good, I'm glad. Maybe you shouldn't worry so much about certain things."
"I don't worry that much."
"You do, you really do."
"Unbelievable," I said as I got off the swing and started to walk away.
"Elizabeth, wait!" Edward called out, but I continued to walk, "I don't know the way back remember."
Ugh, he's right, and it's not like I could just leave him here. "Alright fine, then come on let's go."
He quickly packed up everything and then met up with me. He said, "And you do overthink a lot, " and then walked ahead of me as if he knew the way perfectly. I just stood there for a while in utter astonishment. Eventually I walked back to the castle where I was greeted by Charles who said, "So why were you with Edward?"
"We were just talking."
"In our spot?" He seemed mad.
"He had never been there and wanted to go."
"Why was he holding a picnic basket?"
"That part wasn't planned, that was his idea."
"And you still went."
"Am I not allowed to go places with a friend?"
"If he were a friend it would be fine, but he's not."
"Oh so now you get to decide who my friends are?"
"No that's not what I mean."
"Then what do you mean?"
"I mean it's our special place. The point of it was no one knew."
"Edward already knew it was there, he had just never been there."
" You didn't have to take him there though."
"I didn't think it would be a problem to take a friend who wanted to see that place there."
"The problem is he's not just a friend to you."
" What are you talking about?"
"You kissed him last night!"
"Yes, I know and I already apologized for that."
"It doesn't change that fact that you did."
"I have to go," I say turning away from him to go to my room. He grabbed my arm and made me turn around. Then he grabbed my waist tightly and put me so close to him and whispered in my ear, "So you can go to your new lover?"
"Charles let go of me," I said while trying to push him away, but I couldn't escape.
"Answer the question."
"Let go of me, now"
"Not until you answer me!"
"Charles if you don't let go of me right now, I will scream."
"Go ahead, no one will care, we are are engaged."
"Yes, but no one knows we are engaged, everyone thinks I am engaged to Edward. It would not be very good for you if they find us like this, you holding onto the perspective queen and her screaming."
He let go of me and I started walking away again. He said, "Fine go ahead and choose him."
I stopped, turned around and said, "I'm not choosing him, I'm just not choosing you."
