Part 13
"So what do you think of the place?"
"It's amazing! What is this place exactly?"
"I'm glad you like it, and I'm not really sure, all I know is that at most times there's only two people who know about it, the king and his heir."
"So you don't think your mother or Charles know about it?"
" Charles, definitely not. My mother, maybe, if my father ever did what I'm doing now."
"And what exactly are you doing now?"
He walked towards me, stopped only a few inches away, grabbed my hands, and said, "Showing it to the person I love most."
"Edward, I," I tried to say something, but all my words left me. He was looking right into my eyes, and I just made my eyes look down. I feel so awful, he's here, and he's so sweet and has done nothing wrong to me. He loves me, why don't I love him? I think about him often, most of the time more than Charles, but that's not what love is. I don't love him, I can't love, I've never loved him, I've only ever loved Charles. It's not possible for me to love anyone else, it can't be. I felt a tear start to run down my cheek, but then there was a hand that wiped it away. It wasn't my own hand, it was Edward's. I looked up at him and said, "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry.''
By this point I started to cry even more and looked down again. He pulled me in closer to him. He then put his arms around me, hugged me and said, "It's okay, I don't have any hard feelings towards you. You can't control your feelings. I love you, but you don't love me, and that's perfectly fine."
I didn't answer, I was trying to calm down. Edward was about to release me from his arms, but I said, "Please don't, please don't let go of me. Just continue to hug me. Please."
"Okay, if that's what you want. I'll hug you until you ask me to stop."
"Thank you," I said while laying my head on his shoulder.
He seemed to be a little shocked by that, but just said, "Of course, I would do anything for you, just say the word."
We stood there for at least 5 minutes longer with his arms embracing me. I calmed down a little bit, lifted my head slightly, and said, "You said there was a great outside view in this room, right?"
"Yes, I did."
"Can you show it to me, but still hold on to me?"
"Yes, of course."
"Thank you, you're very caring."
We turned to walk, with him now holding onto my waist. It was like when Charles was holding onto my waist, only this way was nicer. He wasn't holding on super tight. I felt secure, but not in danger.
We got to the window and Edward decided to go behind me instead of staying to the side of me. He was still holding onto my waist with one of his arms, but then put his other arm around my waist too, hugging me from behind. It felt nice and calming. I looked out the window, he was right, it was a truly wonderful view. It looked so familiar, like I had seen or been there before. I soon realized I had been there. It was the secret place Charles and I would always go to. All this time Edward knew? Why wouldn't he have ever said something about it?
"Edward," I said, a little confused, "have you known about the place Charles and I met up at all along?"
"Yes, but I've never actually gone there."
"Do you want to go there?"
"If I had someone special with me, then yes."
"I don't know if I'm special," I said while turning around, "but I'll take you there."
"Well how about tomorrow?"
"We have meetings with Katherine and her Father. But we might be able to go before that. Also I think Katherine wants to marry you, or at least her father wants you to."
"Okay, so tomorrow, maybe after breakfast?"
"That's perfect."
"And I don't think she would want to or her father would want her to. They know I'm supposed to be engaged to you."
"Okay, then we'll wait till tomorrow to see who is right. Most likely it's me, but I'll give you a fair chance."
"What do you mean it's most likely you?! It could be me."
"You're right, it could be you. In the case that you were right, but you're not."
We were both laughing and I felt happy for the first time tonight. He said, "You're not always right."
"But most of the time I am."
"That's… that's, probably true."
"Thank you for finally admitting the truth."
We stopped laughing and he was looking at me with his kind eyes. "Your smile is just incredible. I haven't seen you smile like that in a long time, Edward told me.
"I finally feel happy," I responded.
"Do you feel happy with Charles?"
"I, I can't answer that right now."
"I understand. We should go back to the ball now."
"Okay, and you can give you speech and then we can dance."
"We already danced tonight."
"That doesn't mean we can't dance again. I know you hate dancing, but you did say you would do anything I want and all I have to do is say the word."
"I did say that, didn't I. Well I guess we can dance again."
"Really?!"
"Yes, besides it's not so bad when I'm dancing with you."
"So let's hurry and go back."
"Alright, do you want me to let go of you now?"
"Not quite yet. You could let go of. Me when you give your speech."
"Why don't you want me to let you go?"
"I don't know, it's just comforting."
"Well the people won't think anything is weird about it."
"So let's go back."
"Alright."
