Part 12
In front of us, there was a young woman around my age and what must have been her father. Her father spoke saying, "King Edward we are most honored to meet you. I am Rupert, the new king of the Gesian Kingdom."
"Oh, I heard the late king had passed and you must be his cousin that he made his heir," Edward replied.
"Yes, he was getting quite old and had surprisingly never produced an heir," the man then pointed to the girl an said, "This is my daughter, Katherine. My wife and two sons stay in our kingdom to run it while I am away." Katherine curtsied and said, "Hello. You can call me Kate."
She was quite beautiful. She was tall with a slim build. Like me she had long blonde hair, although her's was a lighter color, and blue eyes. Her hair had two braids with the top layer of hair that connected at the back of her head. She was wearing a soft pink ball gown. She seemed sweet and kind.
"I wish you the best of time in our kingdom," Edward said smiling and looking at Katherine.
"Thank you. I hope I might be able to have tea with your betrothed sometime," she said looking over at me with a smile.
I replied saying, "Of course, that is a wonderful idea, does tomorrow work for you? At around 3 o'clock?"
"That would be perfect!"
"Wonderful, then I will see you tomorrow at 3 o'clock in the garden. My lady in waiting will help you find it."
"Lovely, I'll see you tomorrow. Oh, this is going to be so much fun I can't wait!"
"Edward," King Rupert said, "Perhaps we might have a meeting of our own while they have their tea." He held out his hand to Edward for him to shake it.
"Yes, I suppose that seems like a very good idea, " he said while shaking his hand.
"Then it's decided, we'll all see each other tomorrow," Rupert said happily. We bowed to each other and they started to leave. Edward said, "I hope you enjoy the ball."
There were a few other people left to greet after they walked away. We smiled at all of them and welcomed them. Greeting the rest of the people tooka about an hour long. Edward then turned and asked me, "So do you want to go hide somewhere else now?"
"That sounds lovely, but you have to give a speech."
"I don't have to give that speech right now. We can leave for a little while, and then come up in and then I'll give my speech."
"And we can dance then too."
"We can do whatever you want to do. Even go over by Charles so your father doesn't get mad at you for being by him."
I looked over at Charles who seemed to be having quite a lot of fun. There were several ladies fawning over him. He seemed to like it and wasn't even trying to tell them he already has someone. I looked back at Edward and said, "Actually, I think I've had enough time with Charles tonight. Let's go."
"Where to?"
"Anywhere, anywhere that's fun and away from here."
"Let's go then." He held out his hand to me and looked to have a mischievous look on his face. Obviously with that kind of intrigue, I took his hand. We quietly went out if the bouquet hall and then he started to run. With my hand still in his I had no other choice but to run too. "Edward, slow down, " I said out of breath.
"We can't we have to get there before anyone sees us."
"Where are you taking me?!"
"Some where no one living but me has ever gone to before."
"What, that can't be possible. Surely someone else should know of it."
"My father did, but he's not here anymore."
"And you want to keep it a secret."
"Well yes of course, until I have an heir it has to be a secret. That's how it's always been in this kingdom."
"Why are you taking me then?"
"I don't want anyone to bother us."
"Edward, stop, please."
Once he heard that he stopped and turned to look at me. "What, what is it? We are almost there, I promise. It's okay to walk to rest of the way now if you want." he said still holding my hand.
"I… well what is your. Plan once we are there?"
"To talk you of course. What did you think I had planned."
"I wasn't sure, you just said you were the only person who knew about it. I was wondering if there was something insanely wonderful about it, or if there was something you can only do there."
"I sorry, I'm afraid there's nothing like that there, just a room with a great outside view."
"Alright, let's go then. It sounds fun."
"Okay, it's just down here." We walked to the end of the hall. There seemed to be nothing there except walks on all three sides. Edward pushed on one of the walls and it opened. It was a secret door which led us to a staircase. He went inside, and I followed after. He then closed the door and it was dark for a second but soon lit up with some grand light fixtures that look centuries old. We walked up the staircase and entered a main room which had seven other rooms off in different directions. I looked around all of it. Edward said it wasn't going to be exiting, but who knew there was all this hidden within a castle wall?
