Chapter One: Prodigy

Hi everyone, welcome to the revised No way out! This is probably one of my top favorite stories of mine. Since I've been focused on working on my old pieces, finding errors, adding and subtracting things, etc.
I have added more subplots to the book, taken a few things out and more.
I hope you enjoy the new version! Tell me what you think

Enjoy!!!

One: Prodigy.

"Hokage-sama, I really believe both are more than prepared for the rank of genin."

"They are young, it could cause conflict among the ninja, not to mention their parents." Hiruzen Sarutobi muttered as he took a puff of his pipe. "They are truly living to their parents legacy hmm." He chuckled along with the chunin.

"Well, in a way leagues ahead." The young chunin joked.

"I will watch them in action, testing their knowledge, speed, and jutsu knowledge, I will speak with their parents as well."

"Yes Hokage-sama." He bowed and exited the Hokage's office.

Hiruzen huffed looking at the files that laid open on their desk, the two profiles of Hatake Kakashi and Namikaze Naru. Two children only six years old and already prepared to become genin, it was a great feat, only being a part of the academy for less than a year.

"Their father's are going to have conniption fits." Hiruzen muttered and looked out of the window and over his grand village.

o0o Academy classroom o0o

The classroom of young children sat in near silence as their teacher droned on about some history of the village. At the back row of the room a young boy with spiky silver hair ripped a piece of paper out of his book crumpling it quickly and threw it to the center row nailing another boy with blue-black hair who was currently asleep. He snorted in shock scrambling to his feet rifling through the pages of his book.

"YES!" He yelped, the sensei turned confusion all over his face eyeing the young boy.

"What is it Obito? I didn't call on you." He questioned, the boy froze with a blush as the other children began to laugh at him and called him a 'weirdo' and 'loser', he whined as he looked around and made eye contact with a young girl sitting a few rows behind him, she blushed herself and looked down with a frown. He groaned slumping back into his seat wishing himself to disappear. In his misery, he heard the familiar laughing from the back and saw the boy who threw the ball laughing at him. He glared darkly at the boy. 'Stupid Kakashi!!!' He snarled and buried his head into his arms.

Kakashi calmed his chuckles down as a low growl emitted from his right, he turned and locked eyes with angry blue ones that belonged to his best friend, Naru, she had a deep scowl on her face.

"What?" He questioned in a whisper.

"That was mean." She commented, he scoffed.

"It was funny Naru, besides he shouldn't be sleeping in class." He defended.

"That is for sensei to decide, not you. After class you best apologize to him." She warned.

He scoffed at her warning and stood as the bell rang, freeing them for the day. "I'm not." He snarled, she growled lowly shoving past him and walked out quickly. "Oh come on!" He called rushing out and stopping her in the hallway. "It was a joke!"

"How'd you like if I pulled a joke on you tomorrow in front of everyone?" She squinted at the boy making him flinch.

"You can't!" He tried to defend, she glared at him darkly.

"I can and I will Kakashi, either you apologize before class starts tomorrow or you're in for it." She warned.

"How can you be taking this so seriously? It wasn't on you!"

"Obito is my friend, I don't stand for people picking on my friends!"

"Oh come on!" Naru growled pushing past him once again.

Naru

I stomped out of the academy leaving Kakashi behind as he refused to take my warning seriously.

"Naru! Come on!" He grabbed my arm, the emotions filled his eyes as maybe he finally realized I wasn't joking.

"You don't understand, you hated being picked on! Don't you remember the beginning of the year?! You despised being embarrassed and picked on, looked down on! That's is what Obito goes through! People already look down on him! Now he has to add you being a bully and a jerk!" I snarled jabbing his shoulder, he stared at me in shock.

"N... Naru?" He squeaked.

"Apologize now!" I pointed to the boy who walked slowly away from the school ignoring the kids laughing at him.

"No!" He protested.

"Then don't talk to me until you do!" I snarled and shoved past him once again and ran after Obito.

"Obito! Wait up!" I put a smile on my face as he turned to me.

"Naru? What's wrong? Or are you gonna make fun of me too?" He questioned.

"No! It was really mean of Kakashi to do that, he shouldn't have." I trailed off, he shrugged his shoulders. "How about you come over tonight? My Tou-chan's supposed to return and Kaa-chan is going to make a big dinner. Neh?" I asked, he paused thinking.

"It'll be fun!" I said grabbing his arm and running towards our house. I looked down the street towards Kakashi's house and guilt filled my chest, I hated being mean to Kakashi, he was my brother, we grew up together, but it didn't change the fact that he was being a bully and if it took me to give Kakashi taste of his own medicine, then that's what I'd do!

I rushed into the house with Obito stumbling after me. "I'm home Kaa-chan!!" I called. "Obito's come for dinner!"

"Hi honey, hi Obito." My mom, Kushina said waving a spoon with a grin. "How was school?" She asked.

"Okay," I shrugged. "I'm gonna help Obito with his homework until it's ready." I smiled beckoning Obito to my room.

"Thanks Naru." He mumbled, I smiled opening my door and grunted a furry blur jumped in my arms.

"Naru! Naru!" I giggled as I hugged my pet fox, Nikko tightly and adjusted his orange scarf collar letting him down.

"Hi buddy." I sat on the bed and patted the bed and began to help Obito with his homework.

3rd

The front door to the Namikaze household opened and Kushina smiled as her husband walked in dropping his bag to the ground with a heavy sigh.

"Hi Mina." Kushina greeted kissing her husband with a smile.

"Tou-chan!!" They watched as their daughter raced from her room and launched from halfway down the stairs and up to the young father tackling him to the ground with a big hug and kiss on the cheek.

"Oh Naru, I missed you too." He chuckled standing with his daughter in his arms, she grinned sliding down from his arms.

"It's good to see you safe." Kushina smiled rubbing a bruise on the man's cheek, he grinned with a nod after all he had been on a mission that had separated him from his family for nearly a month.

"So, what's the plans for tonight?"

"Dinner is almost ready, and Obito is staying over." Naru answered.

"No Kakashi?" He questioned.

"No!" Naru snipped looking away.

"What happened?" The young father questioned knowing it was quite rare for the two to not be together.

"He's being a bully and until he learns his lesson, I won't be associating with him!"

Both parents chuckled quietly. "Well, if anyone can teach him that lesson it's you." He winked grabbing his bag and walked up to his room greeting Obito on the way.

Naru walked back checking on Obito who looked pretty miserable. "I'm never gonna pass the academy." He groaned.

"Sure you will! You just gotta practice!"

"Coming from the prodigy." He grumbled she stuck her tongue out.

"I'm sorry Kakashi is being mean, he won't pick on you long."

"It's okay, I'm used to it."

"Well so long as your my friend I won't leave your side or let anyone bully you!"

"Thanks Naru." He blushed. "Same thing, I'll always help if I can."

"Dinner!"

o0o Hatake House o0o

Kakashi poked at his food a deep pout gracing his fairly round face. "Okay, what's wrong?" He looked up at his father, Hatake Sakumo, also known widely as the White Fang of Konoha. The boy idolized his father and strived to be just like him, and in ways he already was much like him with having the exact same features.

"Nothing." He mumbled.

"You have a pout stuck on your face, your aura screams your emotions and you've barely touched your food, spill it scarecrow." He teased making his son sneer at the nickname.

"Sigh.... Naru's really mad at me."

"Why?"

"Dunno." He lied, making Sakumo arch his brow knowing his son was lying.

"I messed with a kid in class she's mad and wants me to apologize."
"What did you do?"

"Threw a paper ball at him, he was sleeping and jumped up, everyone laughed." He shrugged his small shoulders.

"Did you tell your sensei he was sleeping?"
"No, he was doing notes."
"You should have been paying attention yourself." Sakumo scolded him gently.

"I already know it! The academy is boring!" Kakashi huffed.

"Well it's obvious you owe him an apology, you wouldn't like it happening to you, so I can understand Naru's anger."
"Just take her side Tou-san!" Kakashi protested.

"Did he do anything to upset you?" He questioned making Kakashi shake his head. "Then you need to apologize, he could end up your teammate and your lives would depend on one another." He commented. "And besides the sooner you apologize, the sooner Naru will forgive you, and you know she's vindictive.." Kakashi slunk recalling the last time Naru was irked with him.

A prank involving corn starch, water and exploding tag, he shivered, she was only four at the time, who knows how elaborate her pranking has grown since getting lessons in chakra.

"Yeah, yeah." He grumbled glaring at the table.

"So tell me, you're bored at the academy?"
"Yeah! I already read through two years with Naru, and the others are so slow!" He groaned

"Ever think you're too fast?" Kakashi pouted at his father's teasing. "Tell ya what, if you can be good, maybe I'll see what I can do neh? Maybe have a father son mission."

"Yeah!" He said excitement filling his eyes.

Minato stretched out as he arrived from walking Obito home, Naru quickly took place next to him and snuggled into his arms and Kushina following laying against his other side.

"Tou-chan, can I come on your next mission?"

"You need to become a genin first, then we'll speak of you taking a mission with me." He chuckled.

"Where did you go?" She asked, Minato frowned as he thought of his previous mission, how many people he killed with the very hands that were on the two greatest loves in his life, how could he let his daughter enter the dark world? Sure she was safe in the village walls, but deep down he knew it wouldn't always be like that.

"I was in Grass, doing some investigating." He smoothly lied. "How is the academy?"

"Boring!" She groaned. "We're leagues ahead, so we don't have much to do for seven hours." She grumbled, Minato chuckled rubbing her hair.

o0o Academy doors o0o

Kakashi frowned as he lingered around the academy doors and finally spotted Naru walking up with Obito, he took in a deep breath and approached the two. Obito slunk as Kakashi paused in front of them. "I'll talk to ya later Naru." Obito mumbled as Naru glared at Kakashi.

"Wait Obito, I'm sorry." He mumbled the end. "I shouldn't have done what I did.... Sorry." He mumbled, a pink hue decorating his cheeks under his mask.

"T.... thanks." Obito replied, Naru nodded with a smile looking between the two.

"And sorry Naru." Kakashi said, she giggled before wrapping her arms around him and Obito.

"Let's get to class boys!" She charged forward and took a seat in the back with Kakashi and Obito next to her.

Once their sensei entered at the bell ring they instantly noticed the stacks of papers in his arms which was an obvious sign they were getting tested today making some of the other kids grumble.

"I first want to get the exam out of the way, then we'll head outside and do some exercises and practice. Keep the test flipped over until I call to begin, eyes on your own paper. Once you finish flip it over and wait." He said passing out the papers and called for them to begin.

Minato sighed as he walked toward the Hokage office where he had been summoned and paused seeing Sakumo about to enter the office as well. "You got called too huh?" He joked, Sakumo nodded.

"Good to see you back." He said, Minato nodded with a smile and followed the man into the Hokage office bowing to their leader in respect.

"You summoned us both Lord Hokage?"

"Yes, it's not for a mission, more of a discussion, about your children." He said, both fathers glanced at one another.

"Our kids?"

"Yes, their academy instructor came to me yesterday about their skills, and after doing some research I wanted to inform you that Hatake Kakashi and Namikaze Naru will be graduating early."

"They're only six." Minato nearly squeaked.

"It's an amazing feat, but their grades are the highest we've seen, they pass their exams with near perfect scores. Now we will be putting them through various tests and see how they fair, but I'm confident they'll make fine genin."

"Okay..." Both responded.

"Concerns?"
"They're only six." Minato repeated.

"It seems they fully inherited their heritage." Hiruzen commented making both father nod "You are more than welcome to join me to see their skills. If we're not fully satisfied we'll delay the promotion, but I have full faith they will pass." He said. "Take a look at their exams." He said pushing the files forward, both parents scanned over the paperwork and grades seeing nothing lower than A's on their papers.

"After 11 the students will be having spars for the rest of the day, I was going over to watch, care to join?" Sakumo nodded, Minato gave a small nod all the while yelling at himself to speak up and prevent this from happening.

They followed Hiruzen through the halls and around to the Academy building slipping through the halls and to the upper floors that looked over the practice yard and spotted the class waiting for their instructions.

"Let's try some shuriken throwing, but we're going to see how well you can do with a moving target." The sensei said with a smile nodding at his teacher aid who pulled on a rope making the target swing back and forwards.

"Well call you up in pairs." He smiled and began to go through the list and quickly got to Kakashi who let out a slow breath eyeing the swinging board before releasing his shuriken with a powerful throw watching it hit the target perfectly and make it swing faster from the impact.

"Excellent." Kakashi smirked taking his place by Naru and smirked at Obito who stared at him with an eye twitch.

"What?" He questioned, Obito let out a small growl.

"I wanna go next!!!" Obito yelled out and stepped forward as the chunin stuttered before surrendering seeing the boy wasn't going to wait at all.

"Obito you -"
"HAH!" He yelled throwing his shuriken quickly, he smirked before looking over to see the shuriken scattered everywhere but the target board and even one lodged in the clipboard in their sensei's hands and one lodged next to his head. Obito paled before his cheeks turned red as the student erupted in laughter.

"ARE YOU TRYING TO KILL ME!?!?" He snarled, Obito stuttered before scurrying back next to Naru who gave him a small smile

"Nice." Kakashi commented.

"Shut up!" He snarled at the boy who shrugged.

"Someone has a rival." Sakumo muttered watching with a smile.

"He has multiple rivals according to the teacher, he excels and many of the boys wish to beat him, but it's a tie between Obito and Might Gai." Hiruzen replied, Minato smirked looking at his daughter as the sensei called her up to the line.

Naru pulled her shuriken up letting out a low breath before she spun towards her classmates who gasped in horror and her sensei to cry out in shock before she spun with extra power launching the shuriken to the target board hitting the spots easily and putting decent cracks in the wood.

Naru smiled before turning and walked back to her spot, Obito stared at her in shock, she giggled in response.

"You're such a show off..." Kakashi commented making her stick her tongue out at him.

Once everyone had their turns with the shuriken, their sensei announced spar matches would be the final exercise for the day. "If you wish to volunteer to spar against a classmate you may if not we'll do alphabetical order, jutsu that is not higher than D-rank is allowed.." Everyone murmured their thoughts staring each other down until they were called and sparred fairly quickly.

"Hatake Kakashi." He sighed stepping up and waiting patiently before Obito stepped up, Kakashi groaned.

"Didn't the shuriken issue teach ya?" He questioned, Obito growled at him.

"Shuriken is a weapon, I'll beat you with my fists." He said, Kakashi huffed making the sign which Obito copied before the sensei called for them to begin.

Obito launched first a punch aimed at Kakashi who blocked with his arm and kicked up making Obito spin out of the way and step backwards. He threw his whole body making Kakashi drop to the ground giving a sweep of his leg which Obito dodged with a smirk.

Kakashi launched at him and swung against Obito.

Kakashi gave a kick to Obito's leg making his balance falter, Kakashi swung once again but winced as Obito gave a hit to his stomach which knocked the air from his lungs, he coughed stumbling back. Obito smiled in glee at the upper hand and tackled him to the ground. He gave a punch to Kakashi's jaw twice before smoke exploded around him leaving Obito alone, he cried out in shock looking around.

"Oh! He already got Kawarimi no jutsu down eh?" Sakumo muttered with pride, Minato smiled watching the rest of the spar unfold.

Obito turned to move but gasped in shock as Kakashi appeared behind him with a kunai at his neck and his other hand positioned to grab Obito's arms if he swung.

"Stop!" Kakashi pulled back and held his hand out to Obito who took it with a frown on his lips.

"Good job Kakashi, good job Obito." Sensei said with a smile checking off on paper, Naru grinned at Obito who huffed.

"That was great Obito." She said, he nodded and looked over at Rin before looking away.

Naru

I watched as Obito looked defeated despite the fact he was able to keep up with Kakashi easily in the spar, sure his smarts and focus needed control but his speed and power was high. He looked over and I followed his gaze to Nohara Rin, a young academy student, did he like her maybe? It made sense, he was pining for her attention and she was pining for Kakashi's attention, so maybe that's why he tried to make Kakashi his rival?

I grunted as Kakashi elbowed me suddenly, he gestured to sensei who had called me up, I walked up and stood ready before a girl jumped up to spar with me. I knew her as Chiryo, one of Kakashi's many fangirls who tried and that's the key, tried to push me around when I first joined the academy, picking on me to stop hanging out with Kakashi, but she quickly learned she shouldn't underestimate me due to my age or size.

She smirked cracking her knuckles obviously eager at another 'go' of putting me in my place as she claimed before.

Sensei called for us to start, I pushed forward and she followed, I swung and she blocked and repeated my swing and I blocked too. We pushed against one another, I watched her bring her knee up, I released my grip leaning back just barely dodging her knee to my chin. I jumped in the air flipping over her head and kicking her back and knocking her to the ground. She spun around with a kunai swiping towards me, I backed up dodging the swipes carefully but cried out as she gave a low kick which knocked me off my feet. I winced as I landed on my hands, she jumped towards me and I quickly defended kicking her wrist making the kunai fall from her hands, I used my other to knock her balance off and she hit the ground, her teeth clacking together harshly. She snarled her eyes burning in anger before she grabbed my ankle and yanked me to the ground and I could feel my ankle pop out of the place. I winced in pain but kicked free.

"Henseigan!" She called throwing a handful of dirt that formed into small almost bullet shapes that bruised my body and nicked my skin. She threw a kunai towards me and I focused quickly and used the Kawarimi no jutsu and disappeared from her sight before I shot forward grabbing her arm and winced as a powerful shock of chakra shot through us both, I jumped back with a small whimper, she tackled me to the ground gripping at my shoulders pinning me to the ground, I smiled making her look at me confused before my clone appeared behind her and held the kunai to her back, much like Kakashi did to Obito earlier.

"That's match." Sensei said. "That was great you two, Naru go to the nurse." He said looking at the burn mark on my hand and my ankle that was still throbbing. I blinked as Kakashi pulled my arm around his shoulder and helped me walk inside the building heading to the nurse.

"She was going too far." He grumbled, I shrugged slightly.
"It's funny what a girl won't do for your attention Kashi-chan." I purred, he snarled and pinched my cheek.

"Goodness Naru, what happened?" The nurse asked helping me to the seat and began to examine my ankle before wrapping it up.

"I was sparring and my chakra burned my hand, I dunno what happened.." I mumbled as she examined my hand touching the skin which sent pain through my arm.

"Your chakra points and nerves are fine, but it seems your chakra is getting a little out of control, you may need special chakra training." She said. "Use this ointment for a couple days until the marks fade." She said, I nodded with a smile and followed Kakashi through the halls.

"I wonder why we're having spars again, we just did them and normally it's every two weeks." Kakashi mumbled, I shrugged.

"It's better than history lessons."

"True." He shrugged as we joined the class as they continued with spars and exams for the rest of the day.

3rd

"Have a good night class, make sure you do your homework!" The sensei called as the bell rang. "Kakashi, Naru remain back please." He said, both kids paused and waited with their teacher as the rest of the class walked out whispering about the two.

"Did we do something wrong sensei?" Naru questioned first.

"Nothing wrong, but since the moment you entered the academy you have shown great skill and after discussing with Hokage-sama, we have decided to give you both the genin exam and if you pass you will be rewarded with the title of genin."

"REALLY?!?!" Naru yelped and looked at Kakashi who was smiling himself.

"Hokage-sama has been watching your spars today and has approved your promotion but we need to test you on a few other things, so please sit in here and wait until I come back for you." He said and walked out, Naru gave a quiet squeal hugging Kakashi who smiled.

"We've done it!" She cheered quietly.

"Well, almost." He replied.
"We got this!" She said with a fist pump her eyes burning with confidence.
"It'll probably be testing us on jutsu types, the tests we did earlier have to be apart of the exams." Kakashi mumbled.

"Kakashi, follow me." The teacher said popping his head in the doorway, Naru hugged her friend and watched him walk out, she huffed pacing back and forwards.

Fifteen minutes passed before her sensei beckoned her in, she looked around for Kakashi before walking into the room and finding Hiruzen and two of the other academy teachers waiting for her.

"Hello Naru-chan." He greeted, she smiled with a bow standing in the middle. "We would like to see you perform a few jutsu for us, your knowledge and physical skills have been scored already." He said, she nodded waiting patiently. "Henge," He said.

She nodded focusing her chakra before smoke enveloped her body before clearing, she glanced down to see her successfully transformed into the Hokage before her, he smiled with a nod letting her drop the illusion.

"I would like to see your sealing ability," He gestured as they placed a blank scroll and weapons on the table with ink, Naru swallowed before walking up recalled the basic sealing her parents taught her recently. She painted the seals on the paperwork adding her own chakra into the ink and placed them on the scroll before they disappeared in a pop of smoke. She smiled with a breath of relief with a smile.

"We know in the spar you know kage bushin jutsu, which is a high skill, most jounin can't do that jutsu."

"Yeah, I learned it from Tou-chan, I can't do the regular illusion one, so he tried to help me with that one and I picked up quickly," She shrugged with a smile.

"Well I am proud to award you with the official title of genin." Hiruzen said holding a blue hitai-ate out, she squeaked with happiness taking the item and quickly tied it around her head, she giggled running to the door giving a 'Yahoo' and ran out of the hallway.

Kakashi leaning against the door of their classroom his own hitai-ate on his forehead, she wrapped the boy in a hug giggling making him laugh with her and followed out of the academy.

Spotting Obito, Rin and a few other classmates they walked up Naru smiling proudly as they murmured in shock at the hitai-ate on their heads.

"Wait are you both genin?" Obito asked first.

"Yep!" Naru said proudly, he whimpered his shoulders slumping in defeat. "Obito you'll pass your first exam too." She said bumping his arm with a smile.

"Well I dunno about first - ouch!" Kakashi yelped glaring at Naru pinched his arm leaving a red mark.

"Teme." Obito cursed glaring at him.

"Well, we gotta get home! See ya later!" Naru said grabbing Kakashi's hand and practically dragged him away and through the streets heading right to their house.

"I can guarantee Naru's going to come bursting in any second dragging Kakashi with her." Minato smiled, Sakumo nodded already knowing Naru well.

Right on cue Naru burst in with a cheer and as they predicted dragging the boy with her.

"WE'RE GENIN!!" She cheered, Minato smiled before Naru pounced into his arms giving him a grin of happiness before it morphed into a mischievous smile. "Mission now!" She said, Minato gave a smile secretly hoping maybe she would have forgotten that topic.

"You just became genin."
"SO!? You said once I become a genin I could go on a mission with you."

"Fine, fine." He surrendered letting her down to the ground.

"How about we go out for celebration neh?" Sakumo asked rubbing Kakashi's head making him smile.

"YES!!" Naru cheered loudly.

Minato watched as she ran out of the door, he sighed quietly, his stomach twisting in fear, Kushina smiled at him touching his cheek.

"She'll be fine, we'll keep her ready for everything okay?"

"Yeah. yeah." He said and headed outside, while still cursing that he gave the Hokage his okay when he wasn't ready to send his daughter into the dark world that existed just outside the walls of the village, but now there was almost nothing he could do.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So updated version has started, I'm trying to make the characters stick to their personalities and try to form the time line given in the manga. I want more issues to struggle with in the book this time. Biggest will be Minato with Naru letting her grow up and trying to protect her. More will be revealed later on.

If you liked it give me a vote and a comment! Thanks!! :)
