Chapter 1: Welcome Back To Gravity Falls

I smiled as I drove into town. It felt so normal to be here with all the paranormal monsters and mysteries to solve. I wonder what was going on. Dipper's message had seemed urgent. I came as fast as I could.

Summer had just arrived. It turnes out I got one-hundred percent on my English lit project. I told my parents that a couple of my frinds and I where going on a road trip. That wasn't entirely a lie. They where going, and they did ask me, but I said no. It was my only chance to get here.

I went straight through the town to the Mystery Shack. I warned Dipper that I was coming so they were prepared. I hated unanounced house guests.

As soon as I shut the door to my car, the door to the Mystery Shack opened. Mabel ran out and squeezed the life out of me. She was taller then me now. Her hair was a little shorter and she didn't have braces anymore. "I'm so glad you came!"

"Its so nice to be back," I said with a smile.

She let do. "Geez, when did you grow up?"

"I was about to ask you that same question."

"Its been way too long."

"Agreed."

"Nice to see you again ," came a voice. I turned to see Dipper in the door frame. He smiled at me. "I see you got my message."

I nodded. "It must have been urgent. You sent it to me at one in the morning."

Dipper shrugged. "Well, its a good thing you where up."

He'd grown up too. Now he was taller then me, he wore jeans instead of shorts and had a hoodie on. He walked over to me to shake my hand, but I glanced at Mabel and she glanced back. We made a silent agreement and both tackled Dipper with a hug instead. You should never grow up around your childhood friends.

We finally let go, laughing. Even Dipper was smiling. Only now did I notice the bags under his eyes. My smile faultured. "You okay, Dipper?"

Dipper shrugged. "Yeah. Why do you ask?"

"You're just looking a little tired, that's all."

"I'm fine," Dipper said. His face turned slightly grave now. "But I guess we should get to our little problem, shouldn't we."

Mabel and I nodded. "So what's the problem anyways."

"I'm not entirely sure what it is," Dipper admitted.

"There's something going on in Stan's lab again," Mabel said. "Its like something's trying to escape."

"Well, let's go see then."

~

We stood in Stan's lab. It looked a whole lot better then it did three years ago. They'd cleaned up most of it, but the machine still was lying broken on the ground. It was shooting out lighning randomly.

"The machine has been acting weird since about a month ago," Mabel said.

"Its spit up a few things." Dipper picked up a box. There were scraps of metal, half shreded peices of paper, broken technology and a few other nick-nacks.

"Do you know where the machine goes?" I asked.

Dipper shook his head. "No one can go in. We even tried tying a rope to a chair to see if it'd be okay. The rope broke almost instantly." He held up a thick peice of braided rope with a frayed edge.

"That's one powerful machine," I said. "I thought it was broken."

Just then, the machine let out a bolt of lightning, which caught fire almost immedietly. Mabel quickly grabbed a bucket and doused the fire out.

Dipper shrugged. "We did too. Its been dead for three years. Now it all the sudden just flared up again. This could be something big."

I nodded. "So that's why you wanted me here."

"Duh!" Mabel said. She dropped the bucket. "We thought you might be ready for another adventure. What do ya say?"

I smirked. "Duh! I think its been long enough since our last adventure, eh?"

Mabel punched me lightly in the shoulder. "Darn, right! Dipper! Get the first aid kit and my scrapbook!"

Dipper crossed his arms. "You go get it."

"Aw," Mabel said, giving him puppy eyes. "Please!"

Dipper rolled his eyes. "Fine. Be right back."

When Dipper left, I shifted though the stuff. "What does this stuff have in common anyways?"

Mabel shrugged. "Its all old."

"Anything other then that?"

"Its all junk."

I nodded. "Has Dipper come up with anything yet?"

Mabel shook her head. "Its kinda stressing him out. I think he just needs some rest. Here." Mabel handed me a scrap of paper. "He says that this says something that might be a clue, but he's not sure what language its in. We're heading off to the library to find out."

"Cool," I said. "Hope I can help."

"Of course you can!" Mabel said. "Having another person will be a lot more fun and faster."

"I'm just glad someone needs me," I addmited.

"Aw," Mabel said. "Everyone's got a purpose. I'm just glad yours is with us."

I smiled. "Thanks, Mabel."

"Don't mention it."
