In Like With Adam Blackford

Convincing my parents on letting me go on my first date was easy. In fact, my mom thought it was a great idea to go on a date before the actual dance to get more acquainted. Deciding what to wear was the hard part.

All my life I had genuinely been the good girl. My clothes fit my reputation as well; cardigans and jeans made up most of my closet. I didn't really have any clothes that had the hot partying edge that I wanted, but I picked something to the best of my ability.

Observing my work in the mirror hanging from my closet door, I was actually quite impressed with what I had thrown on. A cream shirt sat loosely under my grey cardigan that looked a size too big, but was styled to look that way; I decided to go causal when it came to my pants by just wearing dark blue skinny jeans accompanied with my Madden Girl combat boots. Not much makeup covered my naked eye, just a little bit of eyeliner and mascara. I was never one for more than mascara, but it was sort of a special occasion.

After a few more minutes of constantly worrying I was wearing the right thing or not I finally joined my family downstairs. Adam would be here any minute so I had to approve my clothing choices with my mom. Usually I would trust my own judgement, but I've never been on a date before.

"Oh Rina, you curled your hair," Mom pointed out. "You must like this boy."

"Not too much, I hope." Of course that was Dad's protectiveness talking.

When the doorbell played through the house I freaked. I hadn't even had the chance to ask my mom if I was wearing the right thing or not.

"You look great, Sabrina." Adam smiled genuinely at me. Great was not the same word I could use for him, it wouldn't quite cover it. It was surprising how amazing someone could look in t-shirt and jeans. Although what he was wearing was basically average, his blond hair was styled so that it stood up a little in the front. I was more than lucky to be going out with someone as hot as he was. He turned to my parents who were standing next to me. He stuck his hand out to my father. "Nice to meet you sir, and you too ma'am."

Dad grudgingly accepted his hand and shook it firmly, but Adam showed no weakness. That was good right? "No later than midnight, alright?" I was surprised he didn't say something like ten or eleven, but I was a very trusted daughter who never got into any trouble. I guess these were the benefits to being the 'good girl'. There was an uncertainty if I could call myself that anymore, because I was now going to a party instead of dinner and a movie like my parents think. In all honesty, I would rather go to a movie.

"Now get out of here." Mom was basically shoving me out the door. "Have fun."

Once we were in his car, on our way to Austin's house, I apologized for my parents' behavior.

"Don't worry about it, babe," he said, sending me a smile. "Parents will be parents."

I couldn't believe how amazingly cool Adam was. Did this guy complain a day in his life? What I could do without, though, was his need to call me babe. Why were guys always so hung up on such a derogatory term?

To my surprise, Austin's house wasn't too far from mine. Another surprise: his driveway was like his own personal highway. Trees surrounded the entrance making it almost hard to realize that it was even an entrance. When we finally reached his house I realized it was bigger than I thought it would be.

The mansion stood at three stories tall with a detached garage and a pool in the backyard. Cars were parked everywhere; the driveway, the grass, anywhere they could be parked. There would certainly be more than a struggle to get all these cars out of here unscathed.

"You don't have to look so worried, you know?" Adam said, shaking me from my daze. "Parties aren't all that bad. Just staying away from the right people is the key."

I didn't even know that I was looking worried until now. The tight grip I had on my sweater became more noticeable to me and I let go. "I'm sure I have nothing to worry about with someone like Adam Blackford protecting me."

He smiled at the comment and parked the car farther away from the cars that were too close to one another. Whether people wanted to believe it or not, Adam was actually a pretty smart guy. I had to be wary though, smart guys usually were that much better at taking advantage of you.

When we got to the door, I had to stop us from walking in. "I look okay, right?" I knew insecurity wasn't something guys often found attractive, but I had to know.

Adam grabbed me by the waist and pulled me close to his side. His eyes bore into mine, but not in a way that made me feel uncomfortable. The space between us is what my body envied instead of felt comfort in. For the first time being this close to a guy gave me goosebumps instead of shivers. Before I became too overpowered by the pools of blue that made his eyes so captivating, he said, "You're definitely the most beautiful girl here."

I felt silly when the biggest smile made it's way on my face. "You haven't even seen any of the other girls here yet."

"I don't have to." His voice was just as beautiful as his words. Adam looked into my eyes intently, ignoring any other object of focus. Was it too early to say I was in love?

Entering the mansion was like an explosion of different smells. Alcohol almost engulfed the place entirely, but there was still the mixture of sweat and other deadly toxins. The music was so loud that no conversation could possibly be heard unless yelled. Yeah, I would have definitely wanted to be at movie right now instead of this.

Sensing my uneasiness, Adam asked, "Would you rather we go somewhere else?"

"No, it's fine," I lied. I had to at least give the party scene a try before I completely knocked the idea.

"Don't let anyone besides me hand you a drink, okay?" He looked at me with the most serious face he could put on before pulling me behind him into the big group of dancing people. I grimaced at a couple who were having a big of trouble keeping their tongues in their own mouths and hands in the right places. Dancing like that was seen throughout the whole entire group of people and I had to keep myself from barfing.

When we finally reached the kitchen I was more than relieved. The more I stayed here, the more I realized this wasn't my scene. At least the kitchen was a lot more calm. My eyes wandered over to the kitchen table where a group of guys were having a drinking contest. I could feel myself getting nervous when I saw that Austin Griffin was one of those people. The feeling of my legs growing weaker by just looking at him made me feel terrible, almost like I was betraying Adam even though we weren't even a thing yet.

Adam pulled me into him and leaned towards my ear. "I'm going to the bathroom, don't go anywhere." He was about to leave before he remembered something. "And don't let anyone give you a drink." After giving my arm a quick squeeze, he left, leaving me in a kitchen full of hormonal teenagers. Great.

"Never thought a girl like you'd be going to a party like this, Sabrina." Not even a minute alone and the vultures were already circling. Well, the vulture known as Whittney Rhodes, anyway.

"I-I-"

"Leave her alone, Whitt." Austin interrupted my stuttering and made his way over to us. He leaned on the counter next to me and continued. "She's way too pretty to get in your pants."

Putting the embarrassing sex reference aside, the Austin Griffin just called me pretty. Swoon.

"So you're here with Blackford tonight?" Austin Griffin is talking to me. "Sabrina?" Austin Griffin knows my name.

"Oh, um, yeah." I nodded, but not without blushing from keeping him waiting.

Austin chuckled and pointed to the table of drinks and shot glasses. "Want a drink?"

"Well Blackfor- I mean, Adam should be back any minute so-"

"I'm glad to see you found the guys to stay away from," Adam said, sending a glare to Austin and Whittney. He made it clear that it was a joke by pulling in Austin for a bromance hug after a handshake, and Whittney afterwards.

Before we all sat down at the kitchen table, an older guy with shaggy brown hair and smirk that screamed trouble pulled Austin in the other room which was said to be a 'little chat'. The smell of the guy's cigarette still lingered in the room when he left. I couldn't help but feel worried when they made their way into what I could only assume was Austin's basement. I guess it's normal seeing creepy guys at teenage parties.

Another normal thing was the huge amount of alcohol that was being consumed all around me. Most of it was probably being drunken by my friend Sidnee. Sadly, her alcohol problem was very bad, especially for someone who was only fifteen. On top of her drinking she was kind of a whore, complete opposite of me: prude as can be.

Sidnee was singing some form of Katy Perry song while hanging on Whittney, which wasn't exactly a good sign. It didn't take a genius to know that Whittney was a pig. In her drunk state, though, I doubt she even knew it was him that she's trying to have . . . sex with.

"Sabrina you have to try some of this." Sidnee unhooked herself from Whittney's side and slid a plastic cup with clear liquid in it.

Before I could grab it Adam pushed it back over to where Sidnee was sitting and gave me an annoyed look. "What did I tell you about not accepting drinks from someone other than me?" What I found out tonight about Adam was that he was a grouchy drunk. It was almost as if his charm and adorableness slipped away like they were never even there. Alcohol did scary things to people. "I'll get you some, babe."

I nodded and smiled at him as he started mixing different juices in the kitchen. It was kind of cute seeing him scurry around the place making sure it was perfect.

"So, you guys a thing or what?" Austin asked, gulping down the contents of another shot glass.

I shrugged and blushed. "Not officially, but who knows?"

Austin cleared his throat, "So how you liking the party life so far?"

"The longer I'm here, the more I think I'd rather be cuddled up in my bed with a good book."

"Bookworm, huh?" He downed another shot of Vodka. How could he still act sober?

I didn't have time to answer before Adam plopped down in the seat next to me, shoving the drink next to my hand. "I leave to fix my girl a drink and I come back to Austin Griffin trying to sex her up." Adam faked shock and put his hand on his chest. "I'm baffled."

It wasn't until then that I realized just how close Austin was to me, "Hey, a guy can try, can't he?"

Adam scoffed, "Not with Sabrina."

"What is this?" I looked at the drink questionably.

"You looked like a screwdriver kind of girl." Adam smirked and explained further. "It's just orange juice and Vodka. It's good. Try it."

Taking a sip, I didn't expect it to pack such a punch. Of course it does, Amber's voice rang in my head. It's Vodka, not chocolate milk. I coughed a bit before asking, "How much Vodka is in this?"

"It's about half and half. It's good isn't it?"

I didn't want to say no, so I just nodded. I guess it wasn't so bad, it was just a little overwhelming. This was my first time ever drinking after all. After a few more sips my head started to throb a little making me question what was so great about the drink that people wanted a full glass of the stuff. I had to admit, it was pretty good. The orange was what I tasted most, which I liked. It was just the aftertaste of the Vodka that made me think otherwise.

Adam noticed my headache and cupped my hand in his, sending a warm feeling throughout my body. "It's normal to get headaches the first time. Should have mentioned that."

"Yeah," I said, rubbing my forehead. "Maybe you should have."

Without a word of complaint, Adam stood up. "I'm taking the lady home." I smiled at him gratefully as everyone said their goodbyes. Before we fully left the crowd of drunk, grinding teenagers, Adam pulled me close to him. My eyes got lost in his as the space between us kept diminishing. "Quick dance before we go?"

If he wasn't such a charmer I probably would have said no, but I was clearly caught in some sort of hot guy spell that made me say yes. Darn cute guys and their unnatural powers!

His smile made my unwillingness completely worth it though. I would probably do anything to have him smile at me like that.

Dragging me a little farther into the group of people, we started to dance. By dance I meant the kind of dancing that I usually frowned upon, but I didn't care. Adam was special, I could feel it. If it meant I had to grind and go to occasional parties, that was okay with me.

When we got done 'dancing' it was already half past eleven. The walk back to the car was silent for a little bit, apart from the blaring music in the background from the party. Adam looked down to me for a second before attempting to grab my hand, when I didn't pull away he smiled again. "I had fun tonight."

I nodded, "Me too." I grinned when Adam opened the car door for me and I slipped in. The rest of the car ride was pretty silent, but it was okay. I guess we were both thinking about the appropriate way to end the night.

Driving into the driveway I noticed all the lights were off in my house except for the porch light. Adam was the first to get out and start walking to my front door. I giggled at his eagerness to walk me to my door and followed directly behind him.

When I met him at my door my heart was beating faster than it had all night. Adam grabbed my hand and pulled me closer to him, making my stomach do back flips due to a simple gesture. I couldn't help the smile that crept on my face as I drew myself closer to Adam's chest. He placed both hands on the small of my back and pulled my waist into his.

Without another word he leaned closer to me, but stopped just before his lips could brush mine. "I really like you, Sabrina." The huskiness in his voice almost made my legs collapse underneath me. Now his lips were grazing mine and it was the closest thing to a kiss I've ever had.

It was then that I closed every little piece of distance between us. Wrapping my arms around his neck while he kissed me was the most amazing feeling in the world. If I had known this was what kissing was like, I would have done it long ago. Adam tasted of Vodka and spearmint, but for some reason, it didn't bother me. I actually kind of liked it.

Seconds later, we part. There was more sadness due to us separating, but I needed to breath. Looking up to Adam, he still had his eyes closed and the biggest smile on his face. When he opened his eyes I looked into the orbs that left me breathless.

My feelings have settled themselves. I was really in like with Adam Blackford.
