It's not real! Love, it's not real!
Simeon P.O.V.
When we got back to our base, all of a sudden Eris gasped and started looking around. I was confused as to what she was looking at, since everything was how we left it. She moved out of my grasp to turn around and head back outside, but gasped again. She was shaking violently and was silent, until she finally asked a question I didn't understand.
"What do you mean choose?" Eris stood confidently, and glared at me. Eris gasped and her hand flew to her mouth, and her shaking got even worse. I continued watching Eris as she stumbled back and caught herself against the walls of the cave. I was about to go up to her but Isis beat me to it, and steadied Eris.
"Eris? What's wrong?" She asked. But Eris was still in a dazed state and wouldn't say anything. Isis was holding onto her so she wouldn't fall over, but then Eris started screaming and sobbing. Rose was eating an apple that she got from the Cornucopia the day before, but she dropped it by accident and it rolled on the floor, stopping at Eria's foot. I saw her look down at it and I thought she had snapped out of whatever was happening, but she started to thrash around as if someone was holding her against her will. Four cannons went off in the distance, signaling other tribute's demise. She ran to the entrance of the cave but turned back quickly and attacked Isis. Luckily, I was able to pull her off since she was about to drive one of her knives into her sister's heart. But seeing me just made her frenzy even worse as she almost succeeded in bashing my head against the stone walls. Eliza, Rose and Isis finally was able to hold her down, and tie her up with some rope Isis got in her bag. Eris was shouting and screaming, attempting to break free from the ropes.
"Let me go! You've already killed the people that I love!" She was glaring daggers at me, and I caressed her cheek but she shooed it off.
"What are you talking about?" I asked. Eris scoffed and ended up spitting in my face.
"You know what I mean! You killed my sister, two friends and the man I love!" Eris hissed at me. My eyes widened and it was my turn to stumble back. She loves me, but she also thinks I've been killed. I hear Rose gasp from behind me and I turn away from Eris and towards her.
"She's hallucinating! If you don't fall asleep from the dust and fight it, it causes terrible hallucinations! How could I forget that?!" Rose told me.
"How do we snap her out of it?!" I was incredibly worried about her, she was now cussing Isis and Eliza out as they tried to talk to her. Rose bit her lip and looked down.
"You can't. She has to snap out of it herself." I was suddenly tackled to the ground and I felt pain shoot through my shoulder. It was Eris. She had gotten free of the ropes to attack me, and she drove her knife in my shoulder. She was about to stab me again but I took the knife and threw it on the floor. I wrapped my arms around her waist as I brought her close, even though she was resisting. Her hands then went to my neck as she began strangling me. The girls attempted to get her off of me, but it was no use.
"It's not real. Love, it's not real!" I managed to choke out as her grip became tighter and the girls began freaking out. I was about to go unconscious but Eris stopped, and took her hands away in horror. She began shaking again and got off of me. She started backing away from me and into a corner of the cave, soon sliding down it's uneven walls while sobbing. I stood up and walked over to Eris, putting my hand on her shoulder.
"Love, it's alright. You were hallucinating, I know you didn't mean it." My voice was cracked and barely audible. Eris shook her head and continued crying. I held her close as Isis came over to us to examine my neck. When she touched it I flinched, only just realizing how tender it was. Eris then ran out of the cave. I tried to run after her, but Isis pushed me back down on the floor.
"No." She said stubbornly. I pleaded with her but every time her answer was no.
It had been a few hours since Eris ran out, and she still wasn't back. Finally, she walked into the cave with her head down. I ran up to her and hugged her tightly, but she didn't hug back.
"Why are you hugging me? I almost killed you....." I pulled away and cupped my hand on her cheek.
"You didn't mean it. You had no control over what was happening." I kissed her passionately, and I could feel her melting into the kiss. We broke the kiss and I connected our foreheads.
"I love you too." I tell her. She looked at me in shock.
"How'd you..?"
"When you were under the affects of the crazy poppies, you said that the man that you loved was just killed. You were talking about me, right?" Eris nodded with a smile. I picked her up and spun her around. I finally put her down and gave her a peck on her forehead.
Eris' P.O.V.
I was so happy to find out that Simeon loved me back. The incident that had happened earlier completely left my mind. The sun was starting to set once again and I decided to work on setting up a few snares around our cave so we can start catching food. I was also contemplating on whether or not to ask everyone if we could leave our cave. Sure, we were somewhat safe but the gamemakers are going to become bored soon, and that means hell for us. The moon was out by the time I was finished making the snares, and I could barely see. I was able to find my way back, but grew worried when I saw that our fire was out. My mind went back to my hallucination, and how this is exactly how it started. Was this real, or am I having another hallucination? I started shivering and I see a dark silhouette coming towards me. My breathing picked up, but once the figure wrapped it's arms around me, I knew it was Simeon. I sighed in relief as he led me back into the cave.
"Why's the fire out?" I could barely see him or anyone else in our alliance.
"We realized that the other tributes could see the light from the fire, so we put it out. We're sharing sleeping bags so we can all huddle together for warmth." I nodded and climbed into my sleeping bag, with Simeon joining me shortly after. Turned out that Eliza, Isis and Rose were all huddled together since it was an uneven number. Luckily, they were all able to fit because of how small Rose was.
"Who's taking first watch?" I asked.
"We are. In a couple of hours we're supposed to wake the other three up, and Rose is going to change your bandages." I nodded again, snuggling up to him.
"I think we should leave the cave tomorrow. We need to hunt for tributes so the games can go faster." He suggests.
"I was thinking the same thing. The gamemakers are gonna get bored......how many tributes are left?" I hoped that there wasn't a whole lot left, so we can finish the games. I wanted so badly to go back home, and maybe start a life with Simeon in the future.
"Twenty-seven." That meant twenty-one tributes have died in a period of two days. The games were definitely going faster than I thought it would. Simeon and I soon accidently fell asleep and were awoken by a cannon. I shot up and grabbed a match from my bag, and lit it quickly. I notice everyone had woken up because of the cannon, but Rose. Isis looks over to Rose and screams. She turned her over and Rose had blood pouring down her throat, but her eyes were still closed. She was killed in her sleep. I noticed a trail of blood coming from the sleeping bag, and out the cave. We fell asleep and Rose was killed because of it. A part of my hallucination came true, and I was terrified everything else would too. Simeon and I cleaned Rose up and carried her outside, so the hovercraft could pick up her body. Simeon was about to bring me back inside, but I shook my head. Nearby, I noticed a rose bush and I walked over to it. The roses didn't have thorns, so I picked quite a few. I walked back over to Rose's body and started weaving the roses through her hair, placing the leftover ones around her. There was a single red rose left, so I put it in her hands. Simeon put his arm around me and brought me back into the cave. The wind started blowing faster and I knew that the hovercraft was here. Soon, the wind stopped and Rose was gone.
"How the hell did this happen?!" Isis yelled. I looked down as silent tears went down my face.
"We fell asleep.." Simeon said. Isis then went over to him and slapped him across the face. I gasped and was about to punch her, but Simeon held me back.
"It's because of you two that she's dead! If you wouldn't have fallen asleep then she'd still be here!" I could feel my face turning red as Isis continued yelling at us. But soon, I snapped.
"Maybe you should stop blaming us and focus on the real matter at hand! Someone knows where our base is!" Isis rolled her eyes at me, and clenched her fists.
"Rose is dead! And all you can think about is our damn base! It's all your fault!" Before Simeon could stop me, I slapped Isis across the face like she had done to Simeon.
"I'm leaving." I announced tonelessly. I start to pack up my share of our supplies and walked out before I could be stopped. I got a good distance away before someone taps my shoulder. I turned around and saw Simeon, with a bag of supplies as well.
"I'm going too." He said. I look back behind us to see if anyone else was coming, but all I could see were tall spruce trees. I sighed, tears still streaming down my face. Simeon lifted my chin so we were looking each other in the eyes.
"Don't start blaming yourself. Now, come on. Let's go and find some shelter for the night." We then start running, looking for some shelter. It so cold, almost to the point that I couldn't feel my fingers. I wanted so badly to start a fire, but we were in the open and that would basically be telling other tributes to come and kill us. Soon, we found a very small cave and went inside. It was small, but it would do for the night. I rolled out my sleeping bag and lit a match so we could see inside. I commanded Simeon to get some sleep and after much debating, he complied. When I woke him up, the sun had finally risen and we packed our bags once again.
We were on our own, and I was happy. My sister can go to hell.
