In the arena, I can do so much more than a slap.
After the Reaping was over, peacekeepers took us into the Justice Building to say our good-byes before shoveling us onto a train to the Capital. I sat on a nearby love seat when my mother comes running in to give me a bone crushing hug. I hugged her back, and after about a minute she pulled away and looked into my bright blue eyes.
"Please try to come home with Isis. I can't lose my babies." She was still crying, so I took her hand and squeezed it tight.
"We will." I told her confidently. I could tell how scared she was, with the panicked look in her eyes. My mother has never liked the games, as she lost her younger sister Diamond in the games before she met my father. She then gestured for me to turn around and she put a simple ruby necklace around my neck.
"Your district token. Please wear it in the arena..." She trailed off, crying even harder than before. I pulled her in for another hug before a peacekeeper came in telling her that her time was up. She walked out of the room, still sobbing. I never realized how she would react to us competing in the games. I almost feel bad about it all. Almost. I sat back down not expecting anymore visitors, but Simeon's brother, Sawyer came walking in like he owned the place. I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms.
"What the hell do you want?" I asked him. He glared playfully and walked closer to me.
"Can't I say goodbye?" Sawyer smirked. He walked closer and closer to me until we were almost the point of touching. He grabbed my waist and I gasped in surprise. He then cupped his hands around my face and kissed me. I melted into the kiss and kissed back with passion. Sawyer pulled away and smirked at me.
"Make it home and there'll be plenty more where that came from." He then walked out. I groaned and was close to smashing a nearby vase against the wall. Why did I kiss him back?! We're over, and will never get back together if I have anything to do with it. I sat back down until a few minutes later when a peacekeeper came to escort me to the car. I was sat right in between Simeon, and the other male tribute. The other male tribute turned to me with his hand out.
"I'm Todd." He introduced himself. Todd looked about eighteen, and had a strong build. I had to admit that he was pretty cute. He had dark brown hair and startling green eyes. I shook his hand and put on a fake smile.
"Eris Callisto." I introduced myself. I looked over to Isis and noticed that she was wearing an emerald necklace that she wasn't wearing before. Mom must have given us both necklaces for the arena, I thought. After a few more minutes of awkward silence, we were finally at the train station. I sighed in relief as I walked on, and straight to my assigned bedroom. I plopped down on the bed face first and groaned. I heard someone walk in and tap their foot at me. I turn around and groan again, as Simeon is standing at the doorway.
"You're supposed to be-" I cut him off by throwing a pillow at him.
"Do you really want to be slapped again?" I growled at him. I was already planning on Simeon being my first kill in the arena, and I couldn't wait. Simeon glared at me with his arms crossed.
"You may have been able to get away with that back at home, but not here." I was shocked. He was actually standing his ground. I smirked.
"Well played. But in the arena, I can do so much worse than just a slap." He walked out in anger, and I chuckled to myself. Not too much later, we finally arrived at the Capital and I put a fake smile on. So many citizens of the Capital were awaiting for our arrival and were even holding up signs and chanting our names. I was surprised to see quite a few for Simeon, but ignored it when I saw majority of the signs were for Todd and I. I waved and smiled at everyone and then we were rushed into the makeover center. Luckily, my prep team didn't need to do much tearing and ripping, since I'm from district two and take care of my appearance. My prep team walked me into an empty room with only a robe on, to wait for my stylist.
A girl who looked around my age walked in and smiled at me. She had black and purple glasses on, blue eyes with a tint of gray, and dirty blonde hair. She looked me over and her smile never left her face.
"I'm Amelia, your stylist for your stay here in the Capital. You look amazing by the way. I love your hair the most." Amelia then started brushing my platinum blonde hair, and occasionally would feel it because of how soft it was. She walked out of the room for a second and then walked back in with a black bag in her hand.
"Since each district is getting two chariots this year, I decided that each of your chariots costumes will be different! You'll be on the first chariot with Simeon." My eyes widened as I shook my head.
"No, no, nope! I refuse to be in a chariot with him! Can't I be in a chariot with my sister?" Amelia frowned and adjusted her glasses.
"Sorry, your partner in the chariot must be of the opposite sex. Unless you want to be with the other male tribute?" She bit her lip and looked at me with curiosity. So, either be in a chariot with Simeon, or with Todd? It was pretty obvious.
"The other male tribute, please." I told her politely. Amelia nodded and then took whatever was in the bag, out. I gasped as I saw the outfit for tribute parade.
"I'll have to tell Sadie to switch the outfits for Simeon and Todd, so you and Todd can match." I nodded excitedly as she walked out of the room. I decided to get dressed in the outfit myself, and managed to put it on before she came back into the room. She rose her eyebrows and crossed her arms.
"You realize that's my job, right?" I rolled my eyes.
"I'm pretty damn sure I can dress myself." I crossed my arms back at her and she rolled her eyes back at me.
"Alright, fine. Let me do your hair and makeup and let me get your shoes." Amelia then as fast as lightning started to do my hair and makeup. In no time at all I was done and she handed me the shoes. I stood up in them and almost immediately stumbled and fell to the ground. Amelia snickered.
"Good thing you'll be standing in those, not walking. Come on." She offered her arm as I walked out of the room and to the chariot. We walk out to where the horses and chariots were being kept, and I saw Todd wearing a similar outfit to mine.
I smiled and walked over to him the best I could in the thigh high boots. He turned when he heard me walk up to him, and smiled.
"So, you didn't want to be in a chariot with Simeon, huh? I thought you two were a thing." Todd smirked. I faked gagged and stepped onto the chariot.
"Are you kidding? No way." Todd and I continued to make small talk until a hand forcefully turned me around, and almost made me fall off the chariot. Thankfully, Todd caught me and I looked up to see it was Simeon in the most ridiculous costume I've ever seen. I attempted to keep in my laughter, but failed horribly.
"I was supposed to be wearing that! But you couldn't put it aside that we hate each other and made me wear this!" Simeon was pointing at Todd, and I shrugged.
"Suck it up. If you can't handle a little costume then you most definitely won't survive five minutes in the Hunger Games." I turned away from him when we were alerted that the parade was about to start. A few minutes later our snow white horses started pulling our chariot and we were greeted by thousands of citizens of the Capital. I waved at them until Todd stopped me.
"Wanna give them a show?" He asked me. I smirked and nodded.
"Let's do it. But what would we-" I was cut off by Todd kissing me passionately, and to my surprise I kissed back. The Capital people started to cheer even louder and even started throwing assortments of flowers at us. I smiled into the kiss and felt the chariot come to a stop, as Todd pulled away. He smirked back at me once he realized I was speechless.
"And that's, how you put on a show." Todd put his arms around my waist and pulled me closer. I couldn't help but blush a little bit when he did that.
"Happy Hunger Games! And may the odds be ever in your favor!" President Drew said. We were all then brought back to where we started, and I carefully stepped off the chariot. Amelia walked up to me with the biggest grin on her face.
"That was amazing! You two are gonna have all of the sponsors lined up for you!" She clapped her hands together in excitement. Amelia then led us up to where we would be staying for the next week. Since we were district two, we were only on the second floor of the building. She waved good bye as Sparkles and our mentor showed us to our assigned bedrooms. I noticed that Todd wasn't by my side anymore, but Simeon was. Sparkles then excitedly showed Simeon and I the same room.
"Uh, who's room is this?" I asked.
"The both of yours! Since we have double the tributes, you'll have to share." I put aside my shock for a moment when I noticed there was only one bed. My eyes widened.
"Do you expect us to share the bed?!" Simeon's eyes widened as well. Sparkles nodded.
"Well, yes! But if you don't want to, one can take the couch and the other can take the bed." Sparkles then walked off and I turned to Simeon.
"I get the bed, you get the couch." I said with no emotion. He shook his head.
"No! I should get the bed!" I scoffed at him.
"I'm a girl. How do you think the Capital would like it if they found out you made me sleep on the couch?" I smirked. His face turned red with anger. He knew that appearances were important in the Capital, and I could ruin it instantly.
"Fine." Simeon said simply as he walked over to the couch. I laughed in triumph and walked into the luxurious bathroom to wipe off all of my makeup and undo my hair. I took off my costume and put on a silk nightgown that was sitting in the cupboard by the shower. I walk back out and see Simeon with only his underwear on. I gasped and instantly turned away.
"Uh, do you mind?!" I screamed.
"What about, do you mind?! I'm getting undressed here!" Simeon screamed back at me.
"You couldn't wait five minutes until I was done?!"
"No! The costume was starting to chafe in areas I won't mention!" I roll my eyes and start walk out of the room.
"Clearly, I need to establish some ground rules." I then walk out before he could reply back. I sat down on the couch in the living room when a couple of minutes later Simeon walked out fully clothed and motioned for me to come in. He was about to start ranting about privacy, but I plopped down on the bed and immediately fell into a deep sleep.
