Happy New Beginning

The leaves swirled in their blue background. 

"So what is happening?" Adeline asked, staring out at the road as usual. 

"Um, everybody knows." I began. It seemed like the easiest way to start. 

"I know that, dumbass." Obviously she knew. 

I didn't know what to do. In that moment, the decision should've been easy. Ivory was giving me a possible second chance or breaking up with me, decision pending. Adeline was technically nothing. But in my heart I knew she wasn't nothing and so the decision was hard to make. 

"Ivory said she needs time." I admitted. I watched Adeline for any reaction. Besides the sway of her hair from the wind, she hadn't budged. 

I'd figured she'd be angry. Maybe she'd expected me to drop Ivory for her but apparently I was wrong. She wasn't like that at all. 

"And what if she breaks up with you?" She asked, trapping me between the earth and her gaze. 

"Then she breaks up with me." I answered. 

Did I want to go out with Adeline? I mean I knew what happened everytime. I had fulfilled my promise to myself to ruin Ivory, my bestfriend. It wasn't even close to the second week deadline. Did I really want to do it all again? 

The question wasn't how or could I do it, just did… 

"I see." Was all she said. 

"You hide from me." I admitted, the words flowing out of me without hesitation. "You don't tell me anything. You have me do you favors to help other people but you don't want me helping you. You can kiss me and send me pictures all you want. It isn't enough. I want to know." 

What was I saying? It was enough. I've dated girls who've only ever did that so why was knowing her problems such a need. We already kissed. I knew the feeling of Adeline in my blood and in my head. So why…

"I'm just…afraid." She looked away, moved away. "You want to unravel me and my problems. And then what? Leave me? What happens then? You want to fix me and then break me all over again." 

"I guess your right. Maybe all we can ever be is nudes and kisses. I mean why am I here then? I'm sure if anyone found me here with you, I'd be in so much shit." 

"Then just leave!" She shouted, lifting her hand to slap me. 

I caught the hand as it slapped me and held it against my cheek. "I'm looking for the one and I think you are her."
