Okay, here goes nothing, I psyched myself up and yet I hadn't moved an inch.
It was the second day after Adeline's request and I was close to completing it. That's what I kept telling myself as I stood near a pillar closest to their tree.
The one thing I never understood is the area that Alexa hung out. It was a semi-marked off area that had built in stone counters. It was right in front of the library and was never actually used whenever we had events. However, it was nicely covered by surrounding trees and made for a sweet chill spot.
As far groups have gone in this book, I've pretty declared Ivory's the worst but Alexa's group was a different kind of worse. Their giggling and loud gaggles were their trademark signature. They weren't a bunch of immature girls that stalked and spoke about boys.
They were like the cliché group of popular girls that you found in every book, movie or in real life. However LM high was totally different because here we had multiple cliché popular groups per grade and Alexa was just a year below me.
Alexa was the head of the group, obviously. I don't know how because she was so shy and hesitant with me but there you go. Rose was her sidekick and the only other person I knew about was Lydia. To me, she was a much taller Rebecca.
My head tilted to the right. A dozen yards away, Ivory and her group was enjoying their recess, not paying attention to their surroundings. Dozens of other people were passing me each second, ignoring my existence completely. It reminded me about how little I mattered, how no one seemed to notice what I did anymore.
It also reminded me of Adeline.
I sighed and pushed off the pillar, stuffing my hands deep in my pockets. I had gotten a few feet away from Alexa when Lydia noticed me. Her average brown eyes glued onto me as the entire group stilled.
"River? W-what are you doing here?" Alexa asked, back to her hesitant and shy self.
"Yeah, don't you have a girlfriend? I'm sure she wouldn't appreciate you talking to your ex!" Lydia threatened, stepping to Alexa's side.
This tactic wasn't working. There was no way I was gonna get to Rose with this attitude so I straightened up. My face broke out in a smile as I tried to muster that bad boy vibe.
I don't know how they do it. Years of reputation, I guess but I didn't have years. So I did the logical thing, I imagined fear manifesting into reality around me and peeling off me.
I know, insane but I was nervous and desperate. The first thing that popped into my head was the chapter I wrote the night before about Clayton Jesse saving Veronica.
It seemed to work for a second as Lydia straightened as if accepting the challenge.
"I'm not here for you, Alexa, or at least not now anyways. I'm here for Rose." I stepped forward but was blocked by Lydia.
"There is no way in hell that I'm letting you near my friends again!" She threatened, trying to push me back but it was too late. My inner wattpad boy was fully present.
I looked down and held those fury filled eyes. "And how exactly are you gonna stop me by your all-lone-self?"
I held her gaze for a fraction longer before lifting them to meet a set of bronze eyes.
For the first time, I could see the connection. Rose was tall, definitely taller than Adeline but she had the same jet black hair, the same shade of tan, the same jaw that was set in a indescribable way. But she was leaner, thinner and less confident. She was missing Adeline's natural beauty but it was somewhere within her. Definitely.
"It's from Adeline..."
