Part 2: Every Photo Has It's Own Story
Present Time
I pulled out my earphones, my music silently playing through it. I felt like my whole world stopped, and it was just the two of us who were only able to move. My eyes seemed to be glued, staring right into his.
It's been a year. A year of faking a relationship, a year of broken hearts.. a year of falling in love.. and a year of regret.
Funny how one person could make you fall in love with them all over again.
"S-Sorry," I mumbled, grabbing my tray filled with cupcakes and turning around to place them onto the countertop behind me. I heard a faint voice escape from his lips, and it sent chills throughout my whole body.
I shut my eyes, my fists balling up to gain some strength. But my hand relaxed, I wasn't strong enough to see him again, after a year of falling in love and getting my heart broken by the same person.
I cleared my throat, turning around, avoiding eye contact. Walking towards the cashier, I caught a glimpse of the calendar to read the date.
August 16th.
I pursed my lips into a line. Funny, who knew we were going to be reunited again after exactly a year of being permanently separated from each other.
My eyes met his, and I managed to muster up a small smile. He returned an even bigger smile, tapping his fingers on the cashier desk. "Welcome, what would you like for today?"
Jungkook smiled even brighter, "what's your best seller?"
I walked over towards the cupcake stands, pointing towards each of the finest and best sellers of my shop. "Well, the red velvet cupcakes are the best sellers mainly because of the tasty cream cheese frosting. The ingredients are my own recipe secret, and also one of the reasons as to why it's everyone's favou—"
"You're still talkative, like always." He cut me off, and I stopped myself from rambling on.
My cheeks began to heat up, and I pinched myself to stop myself from falling under his charms. Stop it, you're going to fall in love with him again. Heck, is he even single?
Pursing my lips into a line, I placed a hand on my hip, "would you like the red velvet cupcakes?"
He smiled, tilting his head to the side. "Yes, please. Also I would like for us to talk—"
"Fifty chocolate chunk cupcakes!"
Turning around, I looked up to see Chanwoo coming through the doors that led to the kitchen. He came into the front desk with a new tray of cupcakes, setting them right in it's appropriate place with the other cupcakes which were made a few hours ago. He smiled, sending me a wink and I weakly smiled in return.
Going back to Jungkook, I punched in the totals for his purchase and right after I grabbed a container to perfectly place his cupcakes in an organized fashion. I felt his burning stare, and it was almost as if it made my hands shake.
Placing his bag onto the desk, I grabbed his money and our fingers brushed against once another. I quickly pulled away, placing the coins and cash into its groups. Giving his change, he grabbed my hand and I felt myself stiffen at his touch.
Pulling my hand away, I flashed him a fake smile that managed to do the trick. He smiled, but his eyes told me something else. "You're getting pretty successful, I'm proud of you."
"Thanks, you too, I've seen you work and it's.. breathtaking." I looked at him and his smile had gotten wider.
"I miss your cupcakes which was why I thought of stopping by, actually." He looked at the bag filled with four red velvet cupcakes. "Maybe sometime, I can take some pictures for your advertisements?"
I nodded my head, "that sounds great!"
"It was nice seeing you again, Seoyeon. Maybe, we can hang out again, sometime?" He insisted, leaning in over the counter and I felt like he had gotten much more closer than two seconds ago.
I slowly nodded my head, still avoiding eye contact, "s-sure."
He waved goodbye, his smile never leaving his face. He exited the shop, and I took off my apron, tossing it to the side. I ran towards the back of the kitchen, opening the door and shutting it right behind me. I placed my head into my hands, feeling my eyes water at the wave of emotions that hit me.
I sucked in some air, looking up to see a handkerchief being handed to me. I took it from Chanwoo, wiping my tears that were surprisingly streaming down my cheeks. He bent down to my level and pulled a strand of hair away from my face.
"So.. you guys were together?"
Past - A year ago...
"So.. you guys are together?"
Bora and I were sitting on the couch at my place, watching reruns of cartoons. It was a Saturday, and our math teacher thankfully didn't assign a shit load of homework for the weekend. We created our own fort on the couch with a group of pillows and a large blanket over us, and if I were to be honest, it was the sickest fort ever.
I popped another chip into my mouth as I nodded.. then shook my head. She let out a loud laugh that echoed through the empty house.
"Well, we are together.. but not necessarily.. together." I explained, only making it sound like a question.
"You sure know your stuff." She said sarcastically, chewing on a handful of chips with a few crumbs hanging on the sides of her lips.
"Well, the only reason why Jungkook and I are in a 'relationship' is to make Haeun jealous so that she'll run back to him and then they can make-up." I explained, looking at her as she raised an eyebrow. "As I said, no strings attached."
"Oh yeah, I know that." She grinned, grabbing a pillow and placing it on top of her knees. "Sure sounds like it."
I frowned, tossing my pillow to her face. "Hey, if I had a choice of being in this fake relationship with Jungkook, I would've said 'no' and backed out in the first place."
Her eyes widened and she raised her hands up in defense, "woah.. chill, I was just joking."
"Yeah, I hope you were." I chuckled and she frowned. "How are you and blank tae?"
"Well, for a first, we're not in a fake relationship." She smirked and I sent her a death glare. "I'm going on a date with him.. for the third time."
"Woah, what's so cool about going on a date for the third time with a guy you practically made a bet with?" I teased and she pouted her lips. "Alright, alright, I'm sorry. But really though, this is your third date at the same place?"
"We love pizza, and there's nothing to underestimate about that." She defended her and Taehyung's love for pizza, for it being the third time and third date they would spend at the pizza place.
"In fairness, the pizza there is thee bomb." I agreed and she popped another chip into her mouth. "Slow your horses on the chips, you're gonna choke."
"Yeah, yeah, I know, Seoyeon." She said softly as she placed her elbow on the arm of the couch. "You know, I'm kind of glad Jungkook made rule number three."
"The don't-fall-in-love-with-me rule?" She nodded her head and I burst out into laughter, "he should be a comedian, that was the best fucking joke I've heard in time."
"Can I just put this out there?" I nodded my head for her to continue. "If you ever fall in love with him throughout this whole fake relationship, it's all on you. If you fall in love with Jungkook, then I will be so fucking proud to say that 'I told you so'."
"What if I do fall in love with him?" I asked curiously and she shrugged her shoulders.
"Then you're fucked."
~~~~
"Babe."
I rolled my eyes for the umpth time, following Jungkook around the carnival for almost five hours. He managed to drag me all the way to the carnival—paying for my fair, luckily—just because he wanted to spy on Haeun who was also on a date with her new upgrade.
For a first, her new upgrade was pretty cute. Not gonna lie.
I'm pretty sure we took three rides on the big ferris wheel that was overlooking the beautiful seas, oceans, and mountains of Busan. The first ride was breathtaking, the second was alright, but once it reached the third ride.. I was getting sick and tired of going up and down in circles, seeing the same exact sights I saw in the first ride.
None other than that, Jungkook practically pulled my arms off from dragging me all over the carnival just to catch up with Haeun and her cute upgrade.. who's name was Shinwoo.
And on top of that, after an hour of trying to search for the two of them.. we came to a conclusion that they already left the carnival.
It was almost reaching sunset, and I was pretty exhausted and hungry from all the chasing.. especially the faking.
"Do you wanna go grab something to eat?" Jungkook asked, after I took a seat on a random bench to take a breath. "Maybe.. a drink to cool things down?"
I looked up at him, and he looked a bit guilty. I bit my lip and nodded my head, "after a day of chasing, that's the only thing I want, if that's alright with you."
"I feel pretty bad for making you run around all day." He began, before shoving his hands into his pockets of his jeans, "I'm sorry."
My eyes widened, and I stood on my feet. Grinning, I began to tease him by saying, "did Jeon Jungkook say 'sorry'? Did Jeon Jungkook apologize to me? How rare!"
He rolled his eyes, "shut up, I'm giving you an offer and on top of that, I'm trying to be nice."
"This is so new to me, I don't know if I should be worried." I continued to tease him and he looked like he wasn't taking everything as a joke. I stopped myself from laughing and he smirked.
"If I were you, I would take my nice manners as an advantage." He thumped my forehead and I groaned in pain. "But when I don't take things as a joke, you should look out."
I folded my arms and watched him as he started to take the lead that was headed to one of the food stands. "Woah, I'm so scared."
He turned around and raised an eyebrow, a serious look on his face, "are you coming or not?"
"Will you be paying?" I called out and caught a few stares from the adults who were passing by the two of us who were practically yelling at each other a few metres away.
He smirked, "let's make a deal. If you win the race to the food stands, I'm paying. But if you don't win, you're paying. Deal?"
I caught up to him, and stared at him, leaning closer to his face. Inches away from his lips, I got a closer look of his beautiful brown eyes that were shining under the sun. I wrapped my arms around his neck, stepping onto my tiptoes to whisper into his ears.
"Deal." I whispered, before unwrapping my hands around his neck and making a sprint towards the food stands for a head start, leaving him standing a few metres away with a somewhat dazed look on his face.
"Wait, I didn't say you could run yet!"
~~~~
"Thanks for the burgers."
Jungkook scoffed, staring at me as I munch on my third burger of the day. I won the race to the food stands, clearly because I am a faster runner. But surprisingly, Jungkook was actual competition.
"Yeah, yeah, say whatever you want." He rolled his eyes and I smirked, stopping in front of him, causing him to bump into me for the billionth time. "Do you always stop walking out of nowhere?"
"Are you mad?" I teased, pulling out the burger and waving it in his face. "Hmm?"
"Not mad, just annoyed." He pursed his lips into a line. "If I knew that you had a huge appetite for food, then I wouldn't have offered to pay in the first place."
"Excuse me," I shook my head to disagree. "First of all, you made a bet, not an offer. Two completely different things!"
"No shit Sherlock," he rolled his eyes again. "Whatever, it's nothing."
I frowned, pulling out a burger and handing it to him. He shook his head and pushed it away from him, back towards me. I huffed out a breath, before tapping his shoulder.
"You know," I began, "if you wanted something in return, you could've just asked."
He smirked, "like you can do anything to pay in return, you're useless as fuck."
I gasped, before shaking my head. I began to turn around, starting to leave him as I said, "how rude, and to think I was going to bake you cupcakes for my gratitude—"
"Cupcakes?" He cut me off, grabbing my hand to pull me back. "Did you say cupcakes?"
I placed my hands on my hips, "yeah, what are you going to do about it?"
"Well.. I take back what I said." He pursed his lips into a line, showing his puppy eyes.
I squinted my eyes and raised an eyebrow, before looking ahead of him to see a familiar couple a few metres away. My eyes widened, they were still in the carnival after all..
"What are you looking at—"
Out of instinct, I pulled Jungkook's hand and laced my fingers with his.
"What the—"
As they got closer, I pulled him into a hug, forcing his arms to wrap around my waist. He looked confused, but as Haeun and her new date passed by, he slowly stiffened.
"I thought they were gone.." He whispered, and I nodded my head.
"Me too."
I took the moment to breathe in his scent, only because if we were going to be in a relationship that was fake, it would be good to get used to the atmosphere of him being near me.
He smelled fresh, with a mixture of manliness in his scent. His arms were pretty muscular, a bicep and more muscles can be felt through the fabric that was on top of his skin. He was taller than me, the top of my head hitting against his chin. He had rather large hands, that fit perfectly with mine—
"They're gone, you can stop hugging now."
"Sorry."
~~~~
"Mm," he moaned in pleasure, stuffing his face with the tray of red velvet cupcakes that I made in under two hours.
We managed to come over to my place, making cupcakes for him for all the 'stress' I caused. Jungkook seemed to be satisfied with my recipe, asking me repeatedly for the ingredients that I used.
He licked his fingers and looked at me, "have you ever considered being a chef?"
I shrugged my shoulders, "well, I did, it's something I want to fulfill."
"Like a business?" He implied and I nodded my head in reply. "You should, because these cupcakes are fucking delicious."
"Oh, I know," I teased, "you don't even need to tell me, I already know they taste good."
"Someone's being so cocky right now," he rolled his eyes. "Hey, do you ever consider being humble for once?"
I looked at him, raising an eyebrow, "are you talking to me, or yourself?"
He sighed angrily, shoving another cupcake into his mouth. It was not long until his face softened. "Myself, but I'm only saying that because I don't want these red velvet cupcakes being taken away from me."
I burst out into laughter, nodding my head, "at least you know my tactics."
"But really," he began, pointing towards the cupcakes, "I wasn't joking about you fulfilling this whole cupcake business."
I shrugged my shoulders again, placing my head on the palm of my hand. I nudged him, "what do you want to fulfill when you grow up?"
"I want to be a photographer." He said in under a split second, almost as if he knew exactly what he was going to be since he entered the world.
"A photographer?" I asked and he nodded his head cheerfully.
"I love taking photos, because each picture holds a story." He began, taking his last bite. "A picture can hold a story.. real or all made up, it's your choice."
I raised an eyebrow, "have you taken photos?"
He nodded his head, pulling out his camera from his backpack that was sitting right beside him. He opened it, flipping through the pictures as if he was trying to find a specific photo. I looked at him as he searched through his memory card.
"Here," he handed me his camera and I looked at the viewfinder to see a girl sitting in a coffee shop all alone.
The picture of the girl was taken from afar, almost like Jungkook was standing from across the street as he took the picture. She was holding onto her teaspoon, stirring through her cup of hot chocolate. The girl looked pretty upset, a droplet of her tear sitting at the brim of her eye. I felt my heart soften at the picture, it was almost like a candid photo.
It was Haeun.
"What's her story?" I asked and he leaned in closer towards me, pointing towards the photo every now and then as he started to storytell.
"Once upon a time," he began and I rolled my eyes at how cheesily he started the story. "There was a girl named Haeun. On a cold December night, her heart was broken by a prince charming who found another princess. She ran away from reality and lost herself all because of her shattered heart. But one day, another prince charming found her sitting in a coffee shop all alone. He approached her and the two of them talked, not realizing the store has come to a close."
I stared at him as he stared intently at the photo, his thumb grazing the screen gently. I felt myself feel a bit bad for him, somehow feeling how hurt he was after losing Haeun.
"They managed to talk, and talk, until they fell in love." He smiled, and I have never felt a bit angry for a girl who broke the heart of a guy who was heartwarming and genuine. "But one day, his princess ran away from her and into another man's arms.. never coming back ever again. The end."
He frowned, grabbing the camera and shutting it off. I looked at him, seeing his face filled with sadness and he looked like he was already in defeat. I shook my head.
"The end? Jungkook, not everything has an ending." I sighed and he blinked vigorously.
"Every story has it's ending, good or bad. Unfortunately, mine was bad." He chuckled bitterly and I sighed angrily another time.
"But not all stories have an ending. Heck, not all stories have a bad ending because it's up to the storyteller to change it." I pointed towards his camera. "You say you're the storyteller of each photo you take. Well then, why don't you change the ending of that photo of Haeun?"
"She won't want me back." A tear slipped from his eye. "Do you think she would want me back?"
"She will definitely want you back, Jungkook." I nodded my head, "and you'll be able to change the ending of the story.. her story.. your story."
He wiped his tears away, nodding his head as if he was beginning to get convinced. I smiled, "where's that smile?"
He smiled and I nodded my head, "there it is! Now, can I ask you to take a photo of me?"
And it was like a sudden change of emotion, his face suddenly turning into the same jokester I've grown to hate. "I don't need to take a photo of you, I already know your story and it's ending."
I rolled my eyes, "what is it now, Jungkook?"
"You're story only has one page." He smirked and my face went blank. "Once upon a time, there was a girl named Seoyeon who was so fucking dumb that she ended up falling down the stairs and into the pits of hell—"
"You're an asshole, you know that, right?"
