Part 11: Once Upon A Time (FINALE)
(Narrator's POV)
The two of them stared each other for what seemed like forever. It felt like time has stopped and the only thing that seemed to be moving was only the two of them. Jungkook ended the call, and started to walk over towards her, but she felt herself stand there, frozen.
As he was almost a metre away from her, she started to move backwards, moving away from him. She didn't know what led her to do it, but she knew that she was just afraid to approach him, scared that she would end up getting hurt.
"I lied. I always did." Jungkook whispered as he started to reach out to her but she completely rejected his hand.
"About what?" She asked, completely confused as to what he was trying to get across. "Lied about what? Everything?"
He tried to hold her hand but she moved away from him, and he shut his eyes, letting out a huge sigh. She bit her lip nervously, staring at him as a few wrinkles started to form on his forehead. She folded her arms, "so you lied about going to Rome?"
"Yeah," he replied softly, and she pursed her lips into a line, almost like she wasn't buying it.
"What else is a lie?" She questioned him, "was everything just an act? Just like the first time?"
"Let me explain," he insisted, offering her a hand and she looked away from him, totally unconvinced. "Just give me a chance, I have nothing to do that will hurt you."
She glanced at him, looking at his hand and back at his face. Giving in, Seoyeon took his hand and followed him as he started to walk down the pier that was surprisingly starting to clear up. She watched him as he brought her to the middle of the pier, and as they got there, she was starting to see different pictures of her.
"Wait.. what is this?" She asked, pointing at all the pictures of her and Jungkook finally stopped to his destination in which it had all of his work, his pictures, all hung up around the pier.
She was at a loss of words, looking at all the pictures that were surrounding the two of them. It was almost getting late, and the lights and lamps did a perfect job in making the whole scenery look more romantic. Seoyeon couldn't help but feel her eyes start to tear up, her eyes stopping and looking at a picture of the two of them at the amusement park on her birthday.
She sighed, wiping her tears that somehow started to fall out of her eyes as Jungkook felt his heart clench at the sight of her shedding some emotions. It wasn't that she was upset, neither was she extremely happy.. she was sort of in between.
"Don't cry.. you know I hate it when you cry." Jungkook mumbled as she glanced up at him, feeling his thumb caress her cheek as he wiped a tear away.
"Sorry, I was just.. I was so afraid that you'll leave me.. again." She whispered, and he shoved his hands into his pockets, feeling the ends of his lips tug upwards into a smile. "Why are you smiling? I'm trying to be serious here."
"You should know that I'm never going to leave you." He shrugged his shoulders, leaning closer towards her as she felt her heart being pulled at its heartstrings. "I let go of you once, and I'm not doing that again."
"You made me worry, I thought you were going to leave me here and go to Rome and find some other girl who's ten times more prettier than me, fall in love with her and then forget about—"
"About you?" He chuckled, and she pouted, glancing at him as he shook his head. "Why would I do that if I'm completely and deeply in love with you? Seoyeon, I can never leave you.. heck, I don't think I'd fall in love with any other girl but—"
"What did you say?" Her voice was barely a whisper and he stopped his ramble, his eyebrows knitting together in confusion.
"What?" He asked. I just said that I was completely and deeply in love with you and that—"
"You're in love with me?" She whispered and he looked at her as if she was dumb and going paranoid.
"Of course I'm in love with you! I thought I made myself clear all this time—" He started to ramble on and the only thing she could do was pull him into a tight embrace, snuggling into his chest and he felt himself loosen up for her, hugging her back.
"I'm in love with you too, Jungkook." She mumbled softly, shutting her eyes and cherishing the moment in which the two of them finally said what was supposed to be said almost a year ago.
The two of them pulled away, and he found himself leaning in. She stared at him as he stared at her lips. When he was a centimeter away from her lips, she stopped him and he gave her a questioning look.
"But why?"
"What do you mean 'why'?" He laughed and she folded her arms.
"Why did it take you almost a year?" She asked.
"Well, how do I say this.." He bit his cheek, looking anywhere but her.
"What if I ended up with someone else the moment you come back and find out that you're late—"
"It took me two months to go to America and find out that Haeun was engaged, a day to realize that all this time I was—I was deeply in love with you and that I was stupid to even notice that." Seoyeon found herself starting to smile and her heart start to melt. "It took me another month to try and track you down through Jimin, who so happened to know about your cupcake shop."
"You were stalking me?" Seoyeon gasped and Jungkook shook his head vigorously.
"Well, I was trying to find you, if that's what you wanted to know." She grinned. "As I was saying—it took me one day to find you and actually see you from afar. It took me another three months to recollect all of the pictures we took together, and pictures that I have taken when I found you. It took me two months to get myself an office here in Seoul, so that I could stay here. It took me another month to try and find the confidence to approach you.. but that ended up stretching into two months."
"Yeah, you sound pretty creepy—"
"Well in between, I twisted my ankle, so that ended up stretching into one month of not being able to see you earlier than I could." Seoyeon chuckled and he shrugged his shoulders. And lastly, if you were to calculate that, it took me 53 days to finally build up the confidence, and buy that very first order of red velvet cupcakes on August 16th."
"I—"
"And if that isn't called dedication for someone you truly love, then I guess I'm not the one for you." He frowned, and Seoyeon playfully smacked him in the arm. "Ow—what was that for?!"
"That's for leaving me for one year and not even giving me one call!" She hit him again. "That one's for letting me go and not running after me when I completely confessed my feelings for you!" She hit him one last time, but this one was much more softer. "And that's for lying to me and making me think you were leaving for Rome, and also me."
He grabbed her arm and pulled her closer, and she felt herself blush. "Do you know what else I lied about?"
"Going to Rome wasn't your only lie?" She looked up at him and he slowly nodded his head.
Past - 1 year ago...
"I love you, goodbye." Seoyeon whispered, wiping away her tear before getting up from her spot on the dock and starting to head back home.
Jungkook watched her go, and slowly turned his head back to the ocean, picking up a rock and tossing it into the waters. Her touch still felt like it was there, and he somehow felt her presence still beside him. He turned to his side to see nothing, making him frown. He still felt her lips pressed against his cheek, and he felt the urge to pick up his feet and run after her.
And he did.
His feet brought him back onto his stance, and he was looking left and right for Seoyeon. He didn't know why he wanted to run after her, but he had the need to, just to check if she was alright.
He finally spotted her, and he saw her walking all by herself, hugging herself to bare the cold. He felt his heart yearn just at the sight of her walking away from him, away from his life. He stopped in his tracks, stopping and watching her as she got smaller and smaller, getting lost in the crowd that he couldn't see her.
His phone vibrated, signalling him to look down at the screen to see nothing but a text from his best friend, Jimin.
10:31 am — dude, she just left me, and I don't know what to do. I feel like an asshole for leaving her, I let her go so easily, and now I regret doing it. Jungkook-ah, let's go get some drinks to relieve my pain, yeah? I miss her so much.. it hurts.
Jungkook sighed, not only focusing on the text itself but the actual lockscreen that he had on his phone. It was Seoyeon, fast asleep in his bed, with an open novel in her hands. He felt the ends of his lips tug into a smile, looking back up to see Seoyeon nowhere in sight.
He heard Seoyeon's words start to echo through his mind as he reread Jimin's text one last time.
"Don't think about me. Go run after her, and if she doesn't give you a second chance.. then we have concluded how much of a selfish bitch she is. And you've also concluded the fact that there's more fish in the sea. She's not the only girl in the world, you know. There's still more room in your heart for someone who'll love you ten times more than she did."
There'll definitely be more fish in the sea, and Haeun's not the only girl in the world. Someone will love me ten times more than she could, and that's you, Seoyeon. He thought to himself, finally replying to Jimin's text.
10:46 am — sure, let's go get some drinks. I'll help you get your girlfriend back in no time, you just have to give me something in return.
10:48 am — and what is that, Jungkookie?
10:49 am — help me get Seoyeon back.
Present Time
"Why didn't you run after me?! I was literally waiting for you to do that!" Seoyeon exclaimed and he burst out into laughter.
"Come on now, this whole thing.." He was pointing to the whole scenery that he set up for the two of them. "Is much more better than running after you!"
"Well then, what if I was already taken when you came back?" She teased and he shrugged his shoulders.
He gave a simple remark, "I'd still try to win you back."
"Oh?" She raised an eyebrow. "Do you think you have what it takes to win a girl's heart?"
"Of course, we both broke rule number three." He simply said and her eyes widened.
"Wait.. so does that mean I'm not the only one that broke rule number three?" She asked and he slowly nodded his head.
"Well, I wasn't aware that I did. But I did, I just didn't know that I was in love with you this whole time." Jungkook chuckled and she sighed. "What?"
"For someone who's really creative, you're pretty slow and dumb." She grinned and he felt himself leaning in a bit more closer to her face, glancing at her lips.
"Oh yeah?" He smirked.
"Of course, I mean, you're pretty artistic and the fact that it took you almost a year to come back and run after me and do all of this fancy stuff to impress me—"
He crashed his lips onto hers, and she felt herself give in, kissing him back. He wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her closer to his muscular chest. She wrapped her arms around his neck, deepening the kiss that represented all the feelings that she had for him.
The two of them pulled away, and he bopped her nose, looking into her eyes.
"Well then, I guess I should give you a chance." She shrugged her shoulders and he smiled.
"Of course you should," he rolled his eyes playfully.
"And what if I don't?" She teased.
"I'd still try to win you," he grinned and she giggled.
"You're so clingy," she teased him again.
"I'm clingy for you, because you're mine and only mine." He kissed her nose and she groaned.
"God, you're so corny! Aigoo.. get away!"
