Part 10: I Love You, Goodbye.

(Narrator's POV)

'Rule number 3'

She stared at the words, sending a chill throughout her spine. It was almost as if a wave of emotions had hit the shore, hitting her in one go, the tears starting to spill out of the brim of her eyes.

"Rule number 3," she whispered to herself, wiping a tear from her cheek.

"Be my girlfriend," he commanded. "My fake girlfriend."

I looked at him, biting my lip nervously. I didn't want to admit defeat, but this was practically one of the many ridiculous things that he has made as a decision or strategy.

"Are you fucking kidding me—"

"You said you'd do anything." He grinned, and I rolled my eyes.

"Fine," I sighed in defeat, "you know, for a hopeless romantic, you suck."

"Perfect!" He exclaimed, beginning to look determined. "Now, the only thing left is to wait for Haeun to become mine again, which I'm sure will happen."

"Alright, alright, lover boy, slow your horses." I stopped him, "that's not gonna happen in a matter of a day, you know that, right?"

"I do, therefore, we have to set up some rules and boundaries here." He smiled, cracking his knuckles as if he was getting down to business.

"Rules and boundaries?" He nodded his head as I scrunched my nose up and tilted my head in confusion.

"Rule number one," he began, looking at me, "I hate when people wear and borrow my clothes."

I burst out into laughter, "it's not like I'm going to wear your filthy clothes, anyway."

"Rule number two," he continued, "you have to do what you're told when you're in this fake relationship with me."

I sighed, "do I really have to kiss you?"

He nodded his head, "I know, my lips are really kissable it'll be hard to resist."

"Shut up, you're so full of yourself." I rolled my eyes and he chuckled.

"Rule number three and the last rule," he smirked, "don't fall in love with me."

I scoffed, "fall in love with you? Pssh, I hate you."

"You never know.." he grinned, shrugging his shoulders, "if the whole female gender on the school campus has fallen head over heels for me, than I would watch out if I were you."

"Haha, very funny." I pursed my lips into a line, saying sarcastically. "I wouldn't be in love with you even if you were the last man on earth."

"Alright, alright," he raised his eyebrows. "Whatever you say, just don't fall in love with me."

"I won't, trust me—"

"Because if you do, then you'll be fucked—"

"You mean we'll be fucked because this is a fake relationship and if one of us falls in love with the other then that only means that this fake relationship won't be as fake anymore." I explained and he looked surprised at my rambling.

He smiled, nodding his head, "I'm glad you know."

She shut her eyes, letting out the breath that she had been holding in. Reminiscing the memory, she held the photo close to her heart, tears escaping her eyes.

I can never forget how I fell in love with you, Jungkook. She thought to herself.

Seoyeon entered into the cupcake shop and stopped at the door to see another envelope caught in between the crack of the door. She took it out, looking around to see if her admirer was around in her sight. But there was no one but other store owners who clearly had no business on what she was doing.

She sighed, entering into the cupcake shop and settling all her things down to open the envelope. She pried it open, and it revealed a small card that had a butterfly drawn on the corner of it.

Will you stay by my side?

Will you promise me?

I'm afraid that if I let go of your hand,

You'll fly away, you'll shatter

Butterfly, like a butterfly

-A hopeless romantic

Her heart fluttered at the note, and she scrambled through her bag to pull out the other notes and the single photo that this hopeless romantic had given to her.

Funny how she didn't even notice Jungkook leaning against a lamp post across the street, a smile starting to form on his lips.

He took off his shades, his large beanie that covered his hair, and everything that hid his identity.

Heading towards the cupcake shop, he opened the door and almost immediately, Seoyeon hid all the letters behind her back. He furrowed his eyebrows in confusion, and she let out a nervous chuckle.

"You're here.. pretty early." She chuckled, scratching the back of her neck.

"What are you hiding?" He asked and she sighed, giving in to show him the letters that he gave to her.

"Some letters from a hopeless romantic," she replied. "He's really sweet."

"You never know, maybe next time he'll give you flowers." He grinned, and Seoyeon shook her head, the two of them sharing a giggle.

As the two of them headed towards the cupcakes, Jungkook bumped into the corner of the table, his wallet falling to the ground. His eyes slightly widened as he saw her bend down to pick it up. He bent down and reached for it in unison, making the two of them bump foreheads.

"Ow.." She groaned in pain, her eyesight focusing on the contents that have fallen out of his wallet.

It wasn't just money and cash.. there was a plane ticket.

She furrowed her eyebrows, looking at Jungkook who was hurriedly trying to put all of his stuff back into where it came from. She felt her heart stop at the sight of the plane ticket.

His name was printed on it, and she couldn't get a hold of the date of his departure. But what she saw was that he was heading somewhere.. far from Korea.

"You're going for vacation?" She questioned him as he raised an eyebrow. "The plane ticket.. I saw it."

"Oh—uh—yeah." He stuttered, avoiding eye contact.

"Where?" She asked as he grinned.

"What's with all the questions? Are you scared that I'll leave you forever?" He teased as she pursed her lips into a line. "But the real question is.. will you miss me?"

She playfully punched his arm, and he let out a laugh to let her relax for once. "Of course I'll miss you, you idiot."

"Wait—you will?" He was caught off guard at her response and she nodded her head.

"Well, this is a vacation trip.. so I won't miss you as much." She smiled as he felt his smile falter.

"But.. what if it wasn't a vacation?" He asked as she looked at him.

She shrugged her shoulders before looking away from him, "well, I'll miss you much more than how much I'll miss you if you go on a vacation."

~~~~
A few days have passed and Seoyeon was starting to lose contact from Jungkook, who didn't even seem to pass by the cupcake shop just for a small chit chat. Bora has also been calling in sick for the past days and the only one who seemed to keep her company was Chanwoo.
Well.. slightly. Chanwoo would just end up giving her dry replies, as if he was really busy in his own thoughts of his relationship with his girlfriend.
Seoyeon hated it when Jungkook would cut ends unexpectedly, but this time around, she was afraid that he probably cut their ends forever.
Did he already go on vacation?
Is that why he's not here?
Is that why he's not dropping by and checking up on me?
She pursed her lips into a line, heading out the door once the clock struck six in the afternoon. She was definitely done her job today, mainly because she couldn't help but go and find Jungkook before she finds out that it's too late.
As she pulled out her phone, she dialed a few numbers and waited for his voice to answer the phone. A few rings, and she was growing impatient. A few more rings, and she has given up.
She sighed frustratingly, she looked around and found her eyes stop upon a familiar guy walking down the street, a hood covering his mop of hair.
She crossed the road, thankfully not getting run over by a car, and she found herself chasing after the guy who seemed like he was speeding up his walking pace. "Jimin-ah!"
The figure tensed up, speed walking even more and she found herself starting to run after him.
"Jimin-ah! Yah!" She exclaimed, and she finally caught up to him, pulling him to a halt.
He turned around and she took off his hood, grabbing his hands as if she was pleading him for an answer to all her questions. The impatience was slowly killing her, and he could see it through her brown orbs.
"Have you seen Jungkook? Do you know about this vacation that he's taking? Where is he going?" She blurted out, and Jimin pursed his lips into a line, feeling his palms start to grow sweaty.
"Has he not told you, Seoyeon-ah?" Jimin questioned her as she slowly shook her head, gulping nervously. "Have you noticed the moving boxes lying around, scattered in his office?"
She felt her heartbeat start to beat slowly at his words. She nodded her head, "but he said he was just going on vacation—"
"He's going to work abroad, Seoyeon-ah." Jimin cut her to the chase and she felt her heart drop. "He was offered a big job with big money all the way in Rome. He took the offer."
"B-But why did he tell me that it was just a vacation?" She whispered, and he pulled his hood up to cover his hair once again, to say hidden. She furrowed her eyebrows as he shrugged his shoulders.
"That's something for him to tell you, Seoyeon-ah." He replied, "I should go now, I have errands to run and—"
"When is he leaving?" She asked, and Jimin was already walking away from her. She felt frustrated and angry that he wasn't giving her answers, and she found herself running after him again.
Jimin ran, and she caught up to him because of her determination to find out where Jungkook was at, when he was leaving, and all the other questions that were left unanswered.
"Jimin-ah, when is he leaving?" She took a hold of him just in case that he wouldn't run off again.
"I'm going to be so dead, Seoyeon-ah." Jimin sighed, shaking his head. "Just told tell him that I told you this information and that you found out from someone else."
"So.. you knew all along?" Seoyeon whispered and he slowly nodded his head.
"Jungkook was offered the job almost one month ago, and he took it the moment he was offered it. I thought he had told you, but one day, he told me that you couldn't know about this." He explained. "Jungkook said that he didn't want to see you all hurt just because he was leaving. But he did say that he was going to come back for you. He told me that once he landed in Rome, he would explain everything to you."
"When is he leaving.. for good?" She asked as Jimin let his head hang low.
He looked at his watch, giving her an apologetic look, "he's leaving in fifteen minutes."
Jungkook stood at the pier, dropping another box onto the dock, and unpacking all of the remnants of it. He looked to his right to see Mr. Lee coming his way, with Jimin under his arm. Jungkook smiled and went back to work, taking some pictures and clipping them onto the clips that were attached to a thick string.
"Still hard at work?" Mr. Lee asked as he nodded in reply.
"The plan is set." Jimin added, pulling his hood off of his head. He let out a loud laugh, "she's literally running to the airport right now, she has no clue."
"Oh my, I should apologize for that when I see her." Jungkook chuckled and Jimin patted his back.
"But you know what they say," Jimin said softly, "if someone has the guts to run after you all the way to the airport, that person is a keeper."
"I've never read those in the books," Jungkook giggled and Mr. Lee looked at all the photos that were around the pier.
"You know, I'm glad you rented out this pier for the weekend. It looks much more better than all the other events that have been reserved here before." Mr. Lee smiled and they all started their own conversations, helping each other out to finish the masterpiece that Jungkook had planned for almost two months.
"What do you think her reaction will be when she finds out?" Jimin asked and Jungkook bursted out into laughter.
"She's going to hit me, and I'm sure of it." Jungkook replied as Jimin raised an eyebrow.
"I don't think so.." Jimin trailed off.
"Want to make a bet?" Jungkook insisted as Jimin's eyes widened like saucers.
"What's the prize?" Jimin wiggled his eyebrows.
"The loser has to take out the winner for bubble tea, and for dinner." Jungkook grinned and Jimin shook his hand.
"Deal." Jimin mumbled.
"Alright, I bet you that she'll hit me when she finds out about this." Jungkook puts in his bet as Jimin tilted his head to the side.
"I bet you that she'll just burst out into tears of sadness and joy." Jimin puts in his bet.
Jungkook smirks, "fine. Deal."
Seoyeon had made it to the airport almost three minutes past seven, and once she had made it, she had under thirty seconds before the departure flight takes off to Rome.
She felt as if it was a mission, her feet sped up when she heard the announcements of the flight getting ready for take off in a few more seconds.
"You can do this, Seoyeon, just a few more terminals to pass." She whispered to herself as she continued to run.
Flight 36 to Rome has finally departed. She stopped in her tracks, all the tears coming out of her eyes as she fell to her knees in defeat.
She got back onto her feet, walking slowly towards the terminal in which the flight for Rome has taken place. She sighed, turning around and heading back to somewhere her feet was taking her without hesitation. She couldn't think of anything to do, and she felt like she was empty enough that she had no energy to do anything else but cry.
"Why didn't you tell me that you were going to leave me again?" She whispered to herself, biting her lip to stop herself from sobbing.
But the only thing that came out were tears, and she didn't care if she would lose all of her tears and her capacity to cry anymore.
She felt flashbacks start to flood her mind as she let her feet freely take her to where they wanted to take her.
He smiled, "goodnight, Seoyeon."
I opened the door and felt myself grow so awkward because the awkward farewells we had just exchanged. I had just stepped one foot into the house and I felt a hand pull me back. I turned around to see Jungkook looking at me with a serious face.
He pulled me into a tight hug, his arms wrapped around my waist. I was so surprised, but as I relaxed, I wrapped my arms around him as well.
"Thank you so much, Seoyeon. You don't know how much that meant to me." He whispered, and I shivered at his voice. "It means so much, and I don't know how to return the favour."
"You don't need to, Jungkook." I chuckled as he pulled away from the hug.
It was almost as if the time had stopped. He stared at me intently, and I watched his eyes start to look down at my lips. I looked at his lips as well, and I tried to stop myself from falling in love with his intense gaze.
"Thank you, Seoyeon." He whispered.
And right when I knew it..
He kissed me.
She found herself heading towards the pier where the huge clock was located at. It was the only place that had many memories that were happy, sad, and regretful.
She placed her hands onto the cold railing, glancing up at the clouds that were slowly moving across the beautiful sky. Her eyes are glassy and teary, gripping tightly onto the railing as if it were to somehow stop herself from continuing to cry.
But in a matter of seconds, she found herself crying even more just by the feeling of her heart shattering into pieces. Everyone around her looked happy, strolling around the pier with their loved ones meanwhile she's standing still, crying her broken-heart out.
Suddenly, her eyes stopped and stared at an airplane that was soaring across the sky and through the clouds. Her heart stopped as well, stopping just like the hands on huge clock that was sitting in the middle of the dock, watching over the bodies of water.
Who knew that she would be bidding a second farewell to the same exact person whom she left almost a year ago.
She breathed in, taking in a huge inhale of breath as her hand rose up and started to wave at the airplane that was travelling to some other country.
"I love you, Jungkook, goodbye."
And she let out a bitter chuckle, another flashback flashing right before her eyes.
She sighed frustratingly. "You know, sometimes I regret being in this fake relationship with you. Why? Because every single time I've spent time with you, I was beginning to get used to the fact that you're always in my presence. I was getting used to this whole thing that I was slowly forgetting the fact that this is all fake."
"I don't understand what's going on." He mumbled, looking at her in the eye.
"I was slowly forgetting the fact that this isn't a real relationship. All this time, I was getting used to seeing you. I forgot the fact that every kiss, every hug.. was fake." She chuckled bitterly, wincing as she felt the tears start to form. "I got so used to it that I—"
"Fell in love with me." He cut her to the chase and she looked at him, a tear escaping her eye. "You fell in love with me."
She gasped for air and nodded her head in reply. He stared at her as she wiped the tears that were streaming down her cheeks. "You fell in love with me?"
"Yes, Jungkook." She repeated her reply again.
"I-I don't think I—Seoyeon, I'm sorry." He whispered, shaking his head as Seoyeon felt her heart shatter into pieces. "I'm so sorry, Seoyeon. I.. I'm not in love with you."
Seoyeon smiled sadly, nodding her head. "I know, I knew you would say that."
"Seoyeon, I never intended on hurting you in any way." He began, placing his hand over hers. "In fact, you made me realize how I should love myself before loving others.. and thank you for showing me that."
She nodded her head, "and this is what I want you to do. Don't think about me, I want you to go chase after Haeun because I know that you have a second chance. I can feel it."
"But what about you—"
"Don't think about me. Go run after her, and if she doesn't give you a second chance.. then we have concluded how much of a selfish bitch she is." The two of them chuckled, "and you've also concluded the fact that there's more fish in the sea. She's not the only girl in the world, you know. There's still more room in your heart for someone who'll love you ten times more than she did."
He smiled, "thank you, Seoyeon."
Seoyeon leaned in and pressed her lips against his cheek, pecking it gently.
"I love you, goodbye."
~~~~

(Seoyeon's POV)

It was funny how here I was, saying the same exact things that I have said to the same exact person who broke my heart almost a year ago.

It was funny how here I was, hopeless again, searching for answers, searching for someone who'll actually love me back and never leave me.

But the only difference was that, I didn't leave Jungkook this time around.

He left me.

He left me without warning, not even a single goodbye or a phone call. He left me without warning, probably just so that he could forget about me the moment he lands in Rome and finds some random girl who's much more prettier than me.

Was he even in love with me all this time?

Or was I just fooled and played with just like the first time?

Suddenly, my phone rang, and I looked at the caller ID, furrowing my eyebrows in confusion. I answered the phone call, hearing nothing but my heartbeat beating out of my chest.

"Hello?"

"Seoyeon-ah, where are you?" The voice asked on the other line.

"I'm at the pier, where are you?" I asked as the voice chuckled.

"I'm at the pier too, can we meet up or something?" The voice insisted as I bit my lip, utterly confused as to what was going on right now.

"Uh.. sure?" My reply coming out as a question and I felt my feet eagerly bring me to the pier, searching for someone through the huge crowd of couples and single people.

"Stay on the line so we could find each other through the phone call," the voice insisted as I replied with a 'mhm'.

The more I got closer to the pier, I was getting more eager and eager to what was going on. But as I got closer to the pier, I could see different pictures here and there.

They were all clipped on string, and the whole concept seemed extremely familiar. They were all pictures of cupcakes, and everything that I loved. It were either pictures of cupcakes, clothes, music, anything. But as I got more closer to the pier, I felt myself lose my own voice.

I was seeing pictures of me, candid photos of me where I wasn't aware that someone was taking pictures of me. I stopped and stared at a picture of me, sitting inside the cupcake shop, completely unaware, but I was icing a red velvet cupcake.

"Seoyeon-ah? Are you there?" The voice called out on the other line, making me snap out of my trance.

"Y-Yeah, I'm still here. Where are you?" I asked as the voice seemed pretty breathless.

"The pier is really crowded today, don't you think? I can't seem to find you." The voice replied and I started to run around the pier, pushing people past so that I could find him as soon as I could.

I stopped, finding myself getting lost just because there were so much people that I couldn't keep up as to where I was. I searched through the crowd, standing in the middle, searching for a tall figure with a phone pressed against his ear.

"I'm standing in the middle, can you see me?" I asked.

"No.. I'm jumping up and down, do you see me?" The voice replied as I shook my head.

"No, I can't see you. Maybe we should meet up where it's not so crowded?" I insisted.

"Alright, I just can't wait to see you, Seoyeon-ah." The voice mumbled and I felt my heart skip a beat. "Just promise me one thing though."

"What?" I asked as I ran again, searching for him.

"Promise me that you'll stay by my side," the voice said. "I'm just afraid that if I let go of your hand, or if I even lose you, you'll fly away and shatter.. like a butterfly."

I found myself stopping in my tracks to see him standing a few metres away, looking right at me. It was like there was no other people, but just the two of us. I felt my eyes start to tear up just at the sight of him. The phone was in his hand, but it was away from his ear. My phone was still pressed against my ear, and I saw him press his phone against his ear again.

"J-Jungkook?" I whispered. "Are you really here? I thought you were going to Rome."

He smiled. I had the urge to run towards him and hug him, but my feet were stuck to the ground.

"I lied. I always did."

To be continued...
