Chapter 13

Morning shone down upon the camp sight, and now it was almost noon, yet nobody has said a word.

Theireyes cracked open wide, their mouths firmly shut, and goosebumps hugged their skin like a newborn to a mother.

Their eyes bloodshot with bolts of red in white caused stress to swirl in my stomach, making me sense distrust and fear. Especially fear.

Glazing over the campsite with my eyes, the bridge of my nose crinkled unintendedly as my lips folded into a grimace.

"I wish I fell asleep." I sighed. A hand brushing through my hair that was my own, Jerome, the only one who heard me shot me a look that questioned life itself.

"We all wish we stayed awake." Mitch whispered. Mitch's voice low and shaken, he scrunched his eyes shut as he kept his hands over a certain area of his chest.

Blinking, I shifted my gaze away from the petrified Mitch and silent Jerome, and noticed Lachlan's eyes were casted away onto the floor.

His face was serious, like he wasn't affected. But anybody could tell by the chills raking down his spine and the fear screeching inside his eyes

That he was just as scarred as the rest of them. A soft, quiet smile tugging on Lachlan's lips, his head leaned on his shoulder for support as he looked at me.

"Preston's a savage."

"Thanks for the info Lachlan. That was very...........informative?" Jerome answered. Lachlan turning on his heel, his body bent forward into a bow

until he stood straight up again, a wide, almost too real smile beamed upon his lips. Twinkling in the aura of shock, and grim...

"Welcome. I'm just doing by job."

"Being a dummy for only realizing out of that whole dream that everyone here is scarred? Stop denying it."

Rob snapped. Rob's eyes were cold and hurt, and his lower lip slightly trembled from desperation. His bangs shadowing over his tired face, Lachlan scoffed.

"Oi, Stop being negative about it. You almost sound like Preston."

Lachlan laughed. Jerome snickering silently beside Mitch, he instantly piped down as Mitch glanced his way threateningly.

The more the silence stayed, the more Lachlan's grin on his face drooped into a frown and his eyelids folded until his eyes were popping out of his head.

"Sorry........"  Lachlan mumbled. His foot gently tapping the ground as if it were fragile, Rob said nothing, but his tear streaked face said it all.

The sound of Jerome's hand rubbing against Mitch's back and his hushed whispers just put the situation even more on edge than it should've been.

Rob's hands clenched, I unbent my knees and walked over to Lachlan. Within a second, my heart skipped a beat as the glimmer of Rob's hand raising put me on edge.

Jumping in front of Lachlan, I flinched as pain exploded in the right side of my face and I cried out in pain as I stumbled.

Arms wrapping around my waist and holding me clost, a tear trickled down the side of my face where the impact was.

My cheek starting to swell, I opened my other eye to see that Rob was already gone and the flap of the entrance was waving around in the wind.

"Rob......"

"Hush Vik, we need to put some ice on your wound."

"............"

"Vik?"

"That was something Preston would say.... Wasn't it?" Lachlan looked at me quizzically, a confused look shimmered on his face.

"......... Yeah." Lachlan smiled.
