Character Short: Violet Evergreen
Her shoulders bumped uncomfortably with those next to her, the gravel road tossing everyone around. The van that they were in was never designed for troop transport, but it was repurposed to fit their needs.
Out of everyone there, Violet was by far the most competent and it certainly showed. Her cool and calm demeanor was in stark contrast to the puffed-out chests of the other men, desperately trying to appear strong.
However, as they drew closer to the abandoned warehouse, their fears seeped through. A gunfight with The Heeters was the last thing that any of them wanted to do.
Violet took the time to perform a final inspection of her equipment, making sure everything was in place and in reach for the coming battle. As the van pulled up to the warehouse, the driver gave then ten or so bodies in the back a solid nod as the doors opened and they spilled out. Gunfire rang out almost immediately, as their opposition had dug themselves in to defend.
Yells of panic and the roar of returning gunfire filled Violet's ears as she stumbled out of the van and took cover. Without any electricity, she could only see the enemy through the muzzle flashes of their rifles. It would have to do.
Hugging the side of the truck, Violet looked down her scope and breathed in slightly before pulling the trigger towards one of the orange flashes. She couldn't tell where exactly she hit, but the lack of returning fire was good indication. As the other men wildly fired into the building, Violet carefully picked her targets and shot them down with expertise.
"Move up! Move up!" roared a larger man, "Evergreen! Keep up!"
Violet nodded as she replaced the now-empty magazine of her rifle with a fresh one.
With the first layer of outside defense taken care of, the group pushed up against the large entry door and prepared to breach. A large explosion from a breaching charge ripped a decent sized hole into the door as the group poured into the dark open warehouse. More resistance from The Heeters came to defend their prize as Violet's group clashed with them.
With her smaller stature, Violet was able to sneak around in the dark to get the jump on her enemies, slashing them with her blade as she made her way through their ranks. Things were going smoothly until she heard the bang of a much larger gun.
One of her allies screamed out as a large hole burst open from his chest.
"Sniper! Get down!"
Violet instantly hit the deck as another round of high-caliber bullets rang out from the back of the warehouse.
"What the hell is that?" yelled one of the men, "An Anti-Ship rifle?! Violet! Take care of that damn guy! We'll give you cover!"
"On it," she replied as she got up and slowly approached her target.
As the others wildly fired to keep the shooter's attention, Violet silently crept towards the sniper, spotting him nestled firmly into the management office that overlooked the place. He seemed to be shooting out of a window.
She didn't want to run the risk of making too much noise getting up there, so she opted for a more silent technique. Standing under the office and feeling the shake of the rifle every time it fired, Violet focused as a small purple portal appeared in front of her. She stuck the barrel of her gun through the portal and pulled the trigger.
The sound of her rifle echoed through the small office as the shooter collapsed. Silence held the building as sighs of relief could be heard further back. The portal, no bigger than her torso, expanded to fit her entire body as she stepped through. It spat her out right behind where the sniper was. Taking a quick look around, she confirmed his death. With a nod, she stepped back through, ending up right where she started. Her purple gateways disappeared as she re-joined her group.
"Boys!" laughed the leader, "We've gone and hit the motherlode!"
The rest of them laughed and cheered as the desired shipping container held more lien then they knew what to do with.
"That's quite a bit," huffed Violet, "That means we're square now."
"Hold on there, missy," grunted the leader, grabbing her by the arm, "You ain't going nowhere."
"This is more than enough lien to pay for my debt. We're square now."
"Oh, I don't think so," he grinned, "You've got skills. Serious skills. You could be a huge asset to our band of merry men, so I don't think it would be wise to let someone like you go. I mean, think of all the money you could make for us!"
The others laughed as Violet scowled.
"Let me go, man," Violet muttered, her patience wearing thin.
"How's your mom doing?" he taunted, "Everything alright after that surgery? I would hate to-"
The leader was cut off as he let out a painful groan. Violet had shoved her blade right up his throat.
"No way! Kill her!"
Violet quickly took cover as her temporary allies turned into foes. Considering that she just killed their leader, none of them could leave here alive to threaten her family. Leaping through quickly made portals to zip around the area, Violet quickly began to dispose of the threat.
"S-She's too fast!"
"Shut up and keep firing!"
Every time that Violet pulled the trigger, another goon fell. Their numbers dwindled down to just two as the stood back-to-back. Violet let out a huff of amusement as she threw her blade into the air. Dropping on one knee, she aimed carefully and shot her own knife, redirecting it right into the skull of one of the goons. The last remaining one screamed out in terror as Violet leaped down, pulled the blade out of the head of the other and using it to stab the last one in the heart.
Violet's weary pants were the only thing that filled the room as she turned to the large piles of lien that the gang were ready to take for themselves.
"Well... That could probably pay my tuition"
