x. Sweet Impulses
The 1-A classmates noticed immediately that something weird was going on between Iida, Midoriya, Todoroki, and the girl Bakugou. Rather than Iida and Midoriya constantly talking, typically accompanied by Uraraka and Tsuyu while the girl Bakugou and Todoroki were talking elsewhere, the pairings had changed.
Asui and Uraraka were still talking and hanging around each other as normal, but as the day grew on and classmates noticed that the girl Bakugou and Todoroki weren't at all speaking to each other, it garnered their attention. And on top of that, the two classmates who had only recently gotten into a huge fight in front of UA, the girl Bakugou and Iida, were now constantly around each other.
It wasn't as strange for Midoriya and Todoroki to always be around each other, but for the peppermint haired boy and Explosion girl to not talk at all, it was wrong.
"Midoriya," Todoroki began, sounding deathly serious as he and Midoriya ate lunch. Their table currently consisted of the group that had gained the name of Dekusquad. However, Todoroki and the girl Bakugou were as far apart as possible at their six-chair table.
"Yes, Todoroki?" Midoriya questioned as he ate his katsudon.
"I think [F/n] has actually replaced me with Iida." He spoke somewhat sadly, looking down at his cold soba, not having eaten any of it at all.
"Todoroki, that's not true at all!" Midoriya attempted to raise the boys spirits. "And uh, you're the one who started this, remember?"
"Yes, I know Midoriya. She just seemed too eager to stay away from me... Am I a bad best friend?" Todoroki asked, his sad puppy face making Midoriya's heart tighten.
"No, Todoroki, that's not it at all." Midoriya firmly reassured, turning his head to look at Iida and the girl Bakugou who were deep in conversation. "I am glad, though, that they're getting along much better than they used to." The One For All holder admitted.
Todoroki had a small smile on his face before finally beginning to eat his lunch. His best friend hadn't replaced him and was truly getting along with one of his other friends, and that made him happy.
"What do you think triggered the explosions from your back? Initially I thought it would be the stress of the situation, but with Stain, that must've also been stressful." Iida spoke in a quieter tone to make sure no one else could hear him.
"With Stain I was calmer, and I also wasn't alone. No offense to Deku, but at the time of our fight with Endeavor, I was emotionally unstable and in a far worse situation. Not to mention Endeavor was really pushing me." The girl Bakugou admitted, taking a sip of her apple juice.
"Have you put any thought into a hero name or costume? I know it was wrong of me, but I did read lips during the battle. I wasn't able to know everything of course, considering you all weren't always facing the cameras, but I did read quite a bit. For that I do apologize." The Class Representative admitted, bowing his head slightly to the girl.
"No need to apologize." The girl spoke, reaching her hand across the table and gently grabbing his chin to raise his head, "Besides, I saw you at one of your lower, possibly lowest points, it's only fair that you see mine."
"That's not true, Bakugou. You were there for me in my lowest hour, you fought for me, got injured for me, stood up for me. All I could do was watch and try to understand. I told you that I'd get you to the point of wanting a hero name, wanting a hero costume, and I'm failing to deliver." Iida spoke truthfully, seemingly disappointed in himself.
"Idiot." She spoke, removing her hand from his chin and flicking him on the forehead. "You've stained your record for me and have told me multiple times that you're here for me if I need to talk. It's not on you that we haven't spoken about it, it's on me for not reaching out." Pausing, she stood up and leaned across the table, kissing the spot on his forehead that she had previously flicked. "If it weren't for your prior actions and words, I would've never taken anything Endeavor said to me about identity and making a name for myself to heart. I wouldn't have taken anything Shoto said to me after that to heart. In you striving to become the next Ingenium that your family can be proud of, I'm striving to be the me that I can be proud of."
"[F/n]..." Iida didn't even know what to say as he watched her stand up and walk off, throwing her garbage away and leaving the Lunch Rush Cafeteria.
"I've never seen Bakugou so calm... And sweet." Uraraka commented, Iida still too surprised to say anything.
"She only started acting out when we got to Junior High, I know she's told you, Todoroki. When we got near the end of Grade School, our classmates began to heavily compare the two of them, I never truly paid attention because I was, unfortunately, so focused on Kacchan. I think... I think Bakugou's stopped focusing on trying to not be Kacchan and is focusing on moving forwards." Midoriya spoke with a smile, Todoroki smiling too.
"What was she like before Junior High, kero?" Asui asked, genuinely curious.
"Well, she's always been kind of wild." Midoriya admitted with a soft chuckle. "She still wasn't the best at following the rules, but I think that it was different from what it is now. I've learned that she does it now to be different from Kacchan, but back then, now that I look back at it, I think it was her own expression of personal freedom." Midoriya answered truthfully. "She just wanted to express herself, whether those ways were allowed or not."
Before anyone else at the table got to comment, the bell rang to return to class.
As the group of five began to head back to class, they were mildly surprised to see the girl Bakugou walking beside Hatsume from the Support Course, actively engaging in conversation. While they didn't catch the conversation, Asui, Iida, and Todoroki heard the very last bit that came from Hatsume before the pinkette ran off.
"I'll see what I can do!~" She cooed while running off.
"Ah, that reminds me! Not sure why it does, but it does!" Midoriya dug out his notebook and ran up beside the girl Bakugou, "So, about this development in your Quirk."
"Deku..."
"Now that the Explosions can come from seemingly any part of your body, how does that affect the strength of them? Are you able to set them off from multiple parts at once, just like you and Kacchan could set them off from both of your palms at the same time? Is it possible that since you sweat all nitroglycerin that your entire body is essentially a bomb if you were to be able set off Explosion from everywhere at once? If so, has this affected your hearing in any way by their newfound loudness? If you ever wore a hero costume, would it be like Yaoyorozu's, exposing a lot of your body for the sake of your Quirk, or would you wear something that covered you entirely to make you sweat more, but have to be made of the same material that handles the explosions coming from Kacchan's palms? Do you think you'd be able to shoot explosions from your fingertips like bullets? What ab—"
"DEKU!" The girl yelled, the boy leaping behind Todoroki. "I barely know anything about any of this yet, and Recovery Girl doesn't want me using my Quirk too much until I take these bandages off anyways. This happened less than three days ago, Deku, I haven't had the chance to experiment with things like that yet. I'll be glad to give you answers, I just need to find them out myself first."
"Oh, right, I didn't think about that." Midoriya admitted, the group entering their class room. Just before the girl got to enter, Iida gently grabbed her uniform sleeve and pulled her back.
"In the Cafeteria, what, what was that about?" Iida managed to ask.
"Oh, the forehead kiss?" The girl questioned before smiling, "Not everything needs a reason, Class Rep. Sometimes there's just sweet impulses." Flicking his forehead once more, she turned on her heel and entered the classroom, leaving a stunned Iida who eventually entered the room as well.
The day went on as normal for the UA students, as normal as it could, including a quick and brief visit from Hatsume that almost no one noticed. The tension, however, between the Bakugou siblings was painfully obvious. They didn't speak to one another, and the only time they spared one another a glance, was Katsuki looking at her with hurt and anger in his eyes.
"So," Aizawa's voice came through. "Next week we leave for the summer training camp. Those of you who failed your exams will still be coming—"
"Oh thank god!" Yelled a few, namely Kaminari.
"—but things will be different for you." Aizawa went on to explain when they'd be leaving and what they should expect, at least for the most part.
And with that, it was time for students to go home. As they were all packing up and getting ready to leave, Aizawa called out, "[F/n], there's something for you."
Walking towards his desk, he pulled out the same kind of case the student's hero suits came in.
"Whoa! You got a hero costume in!" Ururaka piped up, eyes sparking with curiosity. "What does it look like? That must be what you were talking to Hatsume about! Why didn't you tell us?" She, alongside Asui, Iida, Midoriya, and Todoroki joined. They noticed a bit of a nervous look on the girl's face.
"After a long chat with Hatsume and Midnight yesterday, and a brief last-minute chat with Hatsume today, theh put this together... But it's uh... Not something I ever thought I'd end up with..." She trailed off, scratching the back of her neck. Iida let out a laugh, surprising those around them.
"Don't mind me, sorry." It's just... If it's leaning towards what I think it is, you're the one who once told me you had nothing to be ashamed of, so what's the hesitation now?
The girl Bakugou could easily tell where Iida's mind went and she couldn't blame him one bit. "Oh, and Aizawa Sensei, can I use the gym this afternoon?"
"Yes, just don't destroy anything. And remember, you're still supposed to take it easy." He answered, though was glad she was taking an initiative in bettering herself. "Let me give you one bit of advice. You're used to certain mechanics and methods that you've always used, that he's always used. Throw as much of that as you can out the window, within reason, and start from scratch, with your own thoughts and methods."
"Thank you, Sensei." [F/n] smiled as she grabbed the case and began to leave the room with her group of friends.
"Soo, when will you let us see the costume?" Ururaka asked curiously, batting her eyelashes at the girl.
"After I try it on and adjust it. I'll send it to the group chat later." She answered, watching the brunette's eyes light up.
"Awesome! Well, I better get going, see you all later!" Ururaka beamed, Asui following up with, "Me too, kero." And the two made their separation from the group.
"I should as well, need to get ready for this Summer Training Camp. See you later!" Midoriya smiled, taking his own leave.
"I'll be going, too. My father made me promise him I'd tell him if you got a hero costume or name, I don't mind lying to him, though. Do you want me to tell him or no?" Todoroki asked, the girl Bakugou appreciating her friend dearly.
"You can tell him, Shoto. I have a costume, but no hero name yet. So that announcement will be a bit." She replied.
"Okay [F/n]. Goodbye." He left. Now, it was just Iida and the Bakugou sister.
"Well, I'll be heading to the gym now. See you later, Class Rep." [F/n] gave him a wink and smile as she split from him and made her way towards UA's gym.
"Hey, wait!" Iida's mouth opened and the words came out without the thought even through his head. He watched as she turned around and faced him curiously. "Mind if I accompany you?"
She smiled, "Not at all."
