Chapter 47

The next three days flew by and I slowly felt myself getting more and more nervous, this performance meant everything to me. Even though it was some 'high school play', I'd put my heart and soul into perfecting my lines and my character. Liam and Louis had dedicated so much time into making it perfect that one little mistake could screw up the whole thing, and I didn't want to me to be the reason behind it all. It hurt knowing that Louis couldn't watch any of the performance, he was the main reason it went ahead and because of some sick person, he isn't able to see his masterpiece.

"What you thinking about?" A voice said, I looked up to see Liam take a seat next to me.

"Honestly? Louis." He sighed and rubbed my shoulder.

"I know it's hard for you, but I've spoke to him and he said he wishes he could be here. He also said he knows you'll do him proud but I don't think I was supposed to tell him that." He chuckled, I rolled my eyes and laughed.

"I see keeping secrets isn't your strong point Mr Payne." He shrugged his shoulders.

"I know how much this means to you, so this could be your motivation to do well. At least you know he's thinking about you." He smiled at me before walking away and back over to the rest of the cast. I pulled my sleeves over my hands and began rehearsing my lines. I needed this to be perfect, even Louis was depending on me and he wasn't even attending. My phone buzzed in my pocket and I slid it out,

'i'll be there in half an hour, can't wait to watch you perform. do me proud x x'

I smiled at my mum's soppy text, she knows how much this means to me too. I put my phone away and grinned at Niall who toddled over to me,

"Are you nervous?" I asked as he sat down, he nodded and wiped the palms of his hands on his knees.

"My hands are just constantly sweating, I don't know what to do. If I make a fool of myself in front of everyone I'll never be able to live it down." I laughed at him.

"Liam will probably find it cute, is your family coming?" He nodded, a grin spreading across his face.

"Greg's come down so he can see it too, so the pressure is definitely on." I wrapped an arm around his shoulder.

"You'll do fine, you were made for this."

"You too." He smiled. We pulled apart and stood up, grabbing our scripts and taking to the stage for one last rehearsal.

The half an hour was over before we knew it and we were all stood pacing around backstage, I peered my head around the curtain and my heart leapt at the amount of people there were. Not once did I think this many people would turn up to a school production. I turned back around and walked over to Liam,

"It's crazy out there, how many tickets did you sell?" I exclaimed, nervousness suddenly taking over me.

"All of them, the whole thing sold out. No pressure." He grinned and walked away,

"Have you seen how full it's getting?" Niall asked, tapping my back. I turned and nodded,

"It's scary." He nodded again.

"It's just a shame Louis couldn't be here to watch it."

"Just remember that he's thinking about you." My heart fluttered at the comment, I needed this performance to go well to prove to people that I am good enough to be an actor and take on the lead role. Perfecting this was vital.

I stood tapping my feet anxiously as the pink ladies took to the stage, clapping filling the room as they entered.

"Jeez, I wish it was still summer. God, it's only a quarter after twelve and I feel like I been here a whole year already." Jan's character began.

The auditoriam fell silent as everybody began to watch the play, slowly and steadily the boys began to leave me and head on the stage. I mouthed 'good luck' to them as they each left.

"One of my diamonds fell in the macaroni." The girls scene finished and the lights faded before turning back on, focusing on the boys this time. I took my place at the side of the stage, near the girls gym entrance and played it cool.

Doody: Hey, ain't that Danny over there?

Sonny: Where?

Kenickie:Yeah. What's he doin' hangin' around the girls' gym entrance?

Roger: Maybe he's hot for some chick!

Sonny:. One of those skanks we've seen around since kindergarten? Not quite.

Doody: HEY, DANNY! WHATCHA DOIN'?

Roger: That's good, Dood. Play it real cool.

Kenickie: Aw, leave him alone. Maybe he ain't gettin' any

I took a breath and walked onto the stage, carrying my books and lunch firmly in my hands.

"Hey, you guys, what's shakin'?" I said bravely, a little cheer came from the audience and I held back my giggle. It was one of my mum's friends attempting to embarrass me.

"Whattaya say, Zuko-'dja see any good-lookin' stuff over there?"

"Nah, just the same old chicks everybody's made it with!"

As I continued performing my confidence rose a little every time, the boys were acing all of their lines and we seemed to be working well as a team. Zayn wasn't trying to embarrass me and I was surprisingly impressed. The lights dropped on our behalf and picked up on the girls, soon lighting up the boys too. The stage split into two and I got ready for my singing, I cleared my throat and steadied myself on the stairs.

'SUMMER LOVIN'! HAD ME A BLAST'

'SUMMER LOVIN'! HAPPENED SO FAST'

We continued singing, cheers and clapping coming from the audience. I could feel the thrill rushing through me already and we'd not long started. Tonight was going to be a good night. The song finished and the lights slowly faded, we ran off the stage quickly and the girls changed into their next outfits before heading back out onto the stage again. I changed into my second outfit and took a seat backstage, our hair and makeup helpers fixed us up a bit before leaving us to catch our breath.

"You did so well" Niall cheered as he walked over to me,

"Thank you, you have to take some credit too." He shook his head,

"You started the song off and hit it pitch perfect, I'm really proud of you and Louis would be too if he was here." Liam nodded his head at Niall and he squeezed my knee before walking off. I grabbed my phone and checked to see if I had any messages, I didn't (so popular I know). I set my phone down and grabbed my script, looking up what I had to do next.

"And now a word from our lead actor, Harry Styles." I stepped away from the line in which we'd just bowed and walked to the front of the stage, taking the microphone off Liam and smiling at him.

"I didn't really plan anything to say so you'll have to bare with me," the audience laughed quietly and I cleared my throat.

"I've been part of this performance for such a long time now and it's become a huge part of my life. I've made so many good memories from being part of the drama club and not once do I ever regret signing up to it. Being given the lead role was insane for me, not once did I think I would ever be given it. So thank you Mr Payne for picking me, I appreciate it a lot. As for the other people in the club, thank you for accepting me and making me feel welcome in the club. And finally, thank all of you guys for turning up tonight. Your attendance means the world to us and none of this would have happened without you guys." I stepped back and the audience took to their feet and began clapping, I smiled and everybody on the stage began waving and thanking everybody. However something caught my eye, something in the corner. It was two hands making a heart, I followed the arms down and my heart stopped. Louis.
