Chapter 8

~~~Some alone time~~~
Serena's POV
Ash's words replayed in my head. Over and over again while walking through the forest.
You left...
You left..
I left...
The reason why you were sad,
hurt,
dying,
alone,
"Shut up," I thought as I walked faster.
lonely,
a mess,
judged,
ignored,
I said SHUT UP!. Increasing my speed from walking to running.
stressed,
confused,
depressed,
Stop it!
misunderstood,
tired but still living,
hurt but won't show it,
screaming but silent,
in pain but still smiling,
"No..." I whisper as I slowed my pace. Going through a bush, eventually landing in a clearing near a river.
Is because you left
from your old happiness,
from your friends,
from your hometown,
from the only place, you could be loved or helped.
"No..NO!" I mumbled banging my trembling fist against a tree.
It's all because of you.
"Go away" I whispered loudly. Leaning my back against the tree. Slowly sinking downwards. I groaned as the voices in my head didn't stop.
Why? Because I'm telling you the painful truth.
"GET OUT OF MY HEAD!" I snapped as I grabbed my hair and looked down at the space between my legs. Tears building up at the corner of my eyes. Hearing the birds flying away from my outburst.
Face it, darling. You did this to yourself.
"I-I know" I mumbled as the tears fell down to the ground.
Good girl, did you miss me?
Welcome back my Demon
My eyes drip with tears. My walls, the walls that hold me up, make me strong just... collapse. Moment by moment, they fall. The salty drops fall from my trembling chin, drenching my long sweatshirt. As much as I tried to hold it in, the pain of my heart came out like an uproar from my throat in the form of a silent scream. The beads of water falling down one after another, without a sign of stopping. I trembled and pulled my head up, trying to scream the pain away only to form a small snob. I hugged my knees and let the tears fell as I snobbed loudly. Thinking over and over again Why?WHY?
Because of you.
I looked up to see a familiar tree with pink leaves.
"Sakura tree," I whispered lingering my eyes a little more at the tree, before snapping my head down again.
I closed my eyes thinking back at the memories with this tree. The tears still flowing down. My lips quivering.
"Serena, know that I'll always be there even when I'm not here anymore." Her mom said pointing to her chest."I'm always in here."
"In my chest?" the 7- year old me asked.
"No, sweetie" Her mother chuckled."In your heart, you'll never be alone, I promise,"
"You lied mother, you lied. I'm alone and I always will be," I cried my head hanging low.
You've got me.
My hands open and closed, rhythmically clenching as if there could be some violent solution to my pain if only I could find it.
"Serena?" Someone calls.
"Serena?" Someone else calls.
I continued, refusing to stop. Letting my tears flow. This is me.
"OH MY GOD, SERENA" White screamed as I could hear footsteps rushing my way.
They both kneel down my height, putting an arm around my shoulder.
"What's wrong?" Dawn asked. I didn't respond.
"Did Ash has something to do with this? If he did he'll never see th-"
I shook my head, stopping White by her suspicion.
"Serena, what's wrong you can tell us?" Dawn said softly.
I shook my head again.
"Why won't you tell us, you can trust us," White said.
"You won't want to be friends anymore," I mumbled softly.
White stood up."Serena, there is absolutely nothing that would not make us want to be your friend. Even if you're a killer, which you're probably not. But still" White exclaimed.
"Yeah, White is right there is nothing able to break our friendship and that we promise you," Dawn agreed.
"After you hear this it would," I sighed.
"Serena, please we want to help," White said as she kneeled down my height again.
"We won't judge you or hurt you," Dawn stated as she pulled herself closer."I promise."
"Okay," I sighed and pulled my head up." It all happened 7 years ago, me and my three friends, one of them including Ash. We were on our way towards the final of the Dance competition, which I attended."
"You could dance?" Dawn asked in amazement. I nodded.
"Yeah, all my friends said I was a pretty good dancer, so attended a competition, after hearing Ash whining about how I should participate."I chuckled halfheartedly."So after a couple of rounds, I came in the final, going against two other dancers. The venue was on the other side of the country, though. So my friends and I decided to travel a bit trough the country but during the travel" I said biting my lower lip."We were involved in an accident."
"What happened?" Dawn asked.
"Quit the questions, Dawn, she was probably going to say that next," White said.
"It was raining and we were walking in the forest, searching for shelter as we heard a small cry somewhere further," I continued."I decided to investigate and the others followed. We landed in a clearing a cliff attached to it. I walked over there and I could see a wounded puppy laying down on a small sticking part of the cliff. We thought of solutions as Ash came up to use the rope in his backpack to climb down. We all thought he was crazy because it's too dangerous and slippy to climb down of a cliff. But he didn't listen. He grabbed his rope and attached it to the ground with a hook and tackled down the cliff. Luckily, he got experience."
"Anyway," I sighed."He managed to get a hold on the pup, but lost his balance because of a nearby thunder, he climbed on the projection and went back, but again he lost his balance but didn't get a hold on something so his only support was the hook. The youngest couldn't watch anymore and ran to her sibling. That was the moment when I saw the hook starting to come off." I said as the girls gasped.
"Long story short, I didn't manage to get a hold of the hook, so he fell down, I went after him, give him CPR and helicopter came, I found the puppy laying between the rocks, we went to the hospital, we waited, his mother came, we got the news that he had broken ribs and a concussion. I fainted, next day I heard the finals was rescheduled, so I practiced after that, on the minute before I was going to perform I got the news he passed away, I broke down on stage called pathetic etc, and three days later my mom died in a car accident." I managed to tell them in one breath.
"Oh my God," Dawn breathed out.
"Ash, never told us," White mumbled
"He couldn't,"I mumbled." he couldn't remember the moments before the fall," I sighed." and he couldn't know that I left because I never told someone."
"What?" Dawn asked in confusion."Why?"
"Because of his concussion,"
"No, not that," Dawn shook her head. "Why didn't you tell someone? Didn't you have friends?"
"Yeah, fake ones," I huffed. "They only were my friends because they thought I could win and they could become popular. From that moment, my life changed, I knew I would never be the same, I won't trust anyone. I would either lose them or be betrayed" I finished.
"And your family?" Dawn asked.
I shook my head, looking down. " I didn't have any family anymore, only my mother. My father left me and my mother's side broke contact because she didn't marry before having a child. So I was adopted."
"That's just," White started. "I don't even have words for it."
"So I suppose you don't want to be friends with a low-life loser like me,"
"NO," They shouted as they stood up, causing me to jump a bit from their volume.
"Why would you think that?" Dawn yelled.
"Because that is what they-"
"Yeah, they not us," White yelled."We are different from them, do we look like them," I looked up.
"And we promised we would stay friends even after hearing what you told us," Dawn added." We don't care if you think you're a low-life loser, which, come on, do you really think that of yourself."
"We aren't that perfect either," White continued. "We are considered crazy, even though that might be true, but we don't care what other say about us, right Dawn?"
"Y-yeah," Dawn stuttered, but conposed herself quickly. "We don't care and you should too, we are here for you, Serena"
Tears went down my cheeks, this time not of depression but happiness. They are here for me. I smiled at them while they kneeled down again as they hugged me, I felt warm and loved. I smiled knowing somebody else cared about me.
"You guys are the best," I sniffed, hugging them back.
"We know," They said as I laughed under my breath. I got new real friends.
No one's POV
As they arrived at the house, Serena was tackled by Lady, who greeted her owner happily by licking her face, in return getting some of the chocolate sauce White dropped on her. While that was happening, Dawn and White stood in the distance observing the honey-blond from afar.
"Dawn," White called out." Are you thinking what I'm thinking?"
Dawn nodded." She is that girl."
