Chapter 70 : Have At Thee
Back inside the hospital, Adrian was in the west wing, which was under construction. There brick walls, a pile of wood, a bucket of paints, and tool boxes. He just placed Oddey on the ground for a while, waiting patiently for his enemy.
Eventually, Oddey was starting to wake up after being suffocated. Her eyes were open, and she saw everything around her. When she realized that she was not in her confinement room, that was when she just sat up in the blink of an eye.
"What the...? Where am I?" She panted since she was starting to freak out about being in an unfamiliar place.
Adrian saw her finally awake and decided to walk up to her, "Turn around," he told her.
Oddey gazed at his way, and her eyes widened to see the evil man who tried to end her life back in the drive-in. "You!" She backed away by scooting on the floor since her abductor was approaching her.
"Remember me? I'm the man who's about to kill you again, and this time, I'm not going to fail."
"Why are you doing this?" The poor girl stammered. "You know, if you kill me, that doesn't mean everything is going back to normal."
"Don't you think I know that, you stupid orphan? Everything I worked for is ALL GONE!! AND IT'S ALL BECAUSE OF YOUR FATHER."
"You keep saying that, but none of them are true."
"SHUT UP!!" Adrian fired two shots. Oddey closed her eyes and covered her ears from the ear-shattering sound.
"No, you took everything from my Dad. You took everything that was meant for him like his job and his wife, and worst of all, you ruined his life by putting him in jail for something he didn't do. You just couldn't handle that he's able to get everything."
"Didn't I tell you to shut up?"
"But no matter how bad you put him through, he can always climb back. Unlike you, you just cheat your way up," Oddey remarked. "And now, look where you are now."
"ENOUGH!" Adrian knocked her face with his gun, making the girl's mouth bleed and bruised at the side. "Why do I have to put up with this when I can end it whenever I want to? Why not now?" Then pointed the weapon at her.
Fortunately, Oddey acted fast by kicking his legs hard enough for him to stumble, though it made him shoot fire on the ceiling. It was so loud that it frightened the other people outside that they had to get low.
While Adrian rolled on the ground in pain, Oddey quickly stood on her feet and got away from there as fast as she could. In about a minute, she was able to find a spot to hide and squeeze herself in since she was petite enough to fit inside the small space.
"Come out! There's no use hiding, "Adrian shouted and thrash things that had gotten his way.
The man kept kicking and shoving everything. Not long he was about to get closer any second, and the poor girl could feel it. That it was the end. There was no way out of it. It felt like her life was over before she knew it.
All of a sudden, there was a loud bang on the door. "Adrian! Adrian!" a voice called out loudly.
"Dad?" Oddey mumbled.
Adrian walked away from the hiding spot and aimed the gun at the door. "It's not locked," he said to his nemesis.
Leon entered the west wing, still putting on a brave face when Adrian was there with a weapon pointing directly toward him. "I'm here. Now, where's Odette?"
"I have no idea."
"Stop playing with me. Where is she?"
"I don't know, but all I can say is that she is somewhere around here," Adrian replied.
The Juliet carefully came out from her hiding spot and peeked through what was going on. She watched her defenseless father having to confront his nemesis, who was armed. Worried, Oddey decided to go there sneakily.
Moreover, Gage found his way to the hallway, heading to the west wing. He spotted Leon standing by the doorway with his back turned. Not only that, he saw his father as well, so he went to them.
Anyway, Leon walked to his enemy with his arms up, "Doesn't matter. You want me, right?" he said and put his arms up then.
"What are you doing?" Adrian groaned. "Stand back."
"Isn't this what you want? For me to die? Just shoot me, and let my daughter go."
The evil man smirked, "Gladly," the evil man snickered, then was about to pull the trigger.
Suddenly, Oddey shoved Gage's father, and his arm swung to the side so that the bullet went in another direction. At that same time, Gage pushed Oddey's father to save him from being shot.
"Gage," Adrian gasped.
"Odette!" Leon exclaimed out of fear since his daughter was standing next to the man who wanted to hurt her.
His fear was right because Adrian grabbed the girl, pulled her to him, and pointed the gun to her head, "You meddling orphan," he sneered. "Just because you and my son are back together, that doesn't mean you're out of the woods."
"DAD!" His son shouted. "Let her go!"
"You Bastard!" Leon groaned as he took one step toward his nemesis.
"Stay back!" Adrian warned them.
"Dad, please. Don't hurt her," Gage begged.
"Listen to your son, Adrian. Leave her out of this. Leave the kids out of this," Leon pleaded.
"Dad!" Oddey cried, afraid that that was it for her. It seemed so hopeless for any miracle.
"Odette, it's going to be okay," Her father assured her, then turned to his nemesis with pleading eyes. "Adrian, let her go. It's me you want."
The cruel man laughed. "This is what I like to see, you begging me. Anyway, no can't do," he responded with this crazy grin like he was starting to lose his mind, as he tightened his grip more towards Oddey. "She's going to pay for what you did to me, and my son. I'm not letting you win while I'm going to rot in jail."
"This isn't about winning. All I want is justice for what you did to me."
"I don't care. I'm not letting you live a contented life with your fiance and, especially with this orphan of yours."
"Fine, kill me instead," Leon urged. "Just leave my daughter alone."
"No! Dad. No!" Oddey screamed that his father was willing to die for her.
"It's alright, Mochipie. It's going to be okay."
Adrian put on a smug on his face. "If you insist," he snickered then pointed the weapon towards his enemy.
However, Gage dashed in front of Leon. "Dad! NO!"
"Get out of the way, son!"
"No, I'm not letting you hurt him either."
"Gage, it's fine," Leon told him.
"No." The young man shook his head and then turned to his father. "This isn't right. If you do this, I will forget that you were ever my Dad who I looked up to, who I idolized, and whom I wanted to be when I grew up."
Adrian became horrified to hear his son's words. "Son, it's still me."
"Dad, come on, this isn't you."
"They made me like this, son. They pushed me to do this," Adrian justified his actions.
"Dad, no. You did this to yourself," Gage snapped.
"Not you too. What should I expect? You are on their side. You and your mother. TRAITORS."
"It's because Mom and I see who you are," The Romeo replied. "You'll do anything to get what you want. Even if it means hurting a lot of people."
"Can't you see why I'm doing this? Because of you and your mother," Adrian claimed. "I want what's best for the both of you."
"Not this way, Dad. Mr. Magnum might have tried to stop me from seeing Oddey while she was in a coma, but not once did he ever hurt me."
"What are you saying? That you'd rather have him as your father? Is that why you saved him?"
"I saved him because you're going to shoot him. I'm not going to let you do that. I never thought you could hurt anyone because you're my father."
Tears fell from Adrian's eyes, hearing his son say those about him. However, he refused to let go of Oddey. "Gage..." he wept. "He ruined everything for me. Don't you remember?"
"Dad, stop. I don't believe you anymore. Mr. Magnum didn't do anything to you. You were the one who ruined his life," Gage argued.
"Not you too."
"Look what you're doing right now. Just let her go. Please, Dad. Please," The Romeo sobbed. "Just let Oddey go and give it up. I promise that no matter what happens, I will still love you." His father saw his eyes, feeling the desperation and sincerity in his voice.
"Adrian, you still have a family. Don't make them resent you anymore by doing this," Leon advised calmly.
"Dad, let Oddey go," Gage sniffled. "Please, Dad. For me."
Oddey felt Adrian's grip was starting to loosen. "Alright, here," the evil man exasperated.
Finally, free from his clutches, the Juliet was about to get to her father and her boyfriend. "Dad, Gage," Oddey sighed in utter relief and was smiling, thinking that it was over.
Unfortunately, it was not over. When Oddey walked fast towards her loved ones, Adrian had a sudden change of heart after seeing the enemy being happy again when he embraced his daughter. So he aimed the gun at her once again and was about to pull the trigger on her head.
Gage saw it right away and knew what was going to happen. "Dad! NO!" He went in front of them to take the hit.
"Gage!" Oddey shrieked for her Romeo, fearing to lose him, and tried to get him away from there. However, Leon grabbed her to pull her away.
The bullet broke out. Another ear-piercing sound of a gunshot was heard from the inside that startled people outside.
Leon covered his daughter to protect her, and their eyes were closed. Gage did the same and was prepared to sacrifice himself for the one he loved, even if it meant being shot by his own father.
Although none of them were hit, even though they heard the pop like it was beside their eardrum.
The next second, Adrian fell on his back with the weapon dropped on the ground and blood coming out from his shoulder.
"Dad!" Gage shouted with this look of sheer dread to see his father was the one shot by Officer Diaz who was standing in the distance behind Leon and Oddey with a gun aiming at the hostage taker.
The Romeo ran to his father, who was grunting in pain from the gunshot wound as the cop went to them, kicked the gun away, and then called for help on his two-way radio.
Leon kept his daughter close to him as they watched because they were still shaken that they could have died at that moment.
Later, once they were all out of the hospital, Eva and Marie rushed to tearfully hug their respective families, relieved from seeing them safe.
Gage hugged his mother, then he looked over to his Juliet, who was also clinging to her family after nearly being killed.
Meanwhile, Oddey glanced over to his Romeo while she was in the arms of her parents.
They just smiled at each other, feeling happy that they got out of there alive.
"Ahhh!!" Adrian groaned loudly that both families' eyes were on him. He was on a gurney, groaning in pain from his gunshot wound while paramedics had to transport him to a different hospital. "This is all your fault, Hal! This isn't over!"
Leon decided not to respond since he was happy to be back with his family.
Gage and Marie, on the other hand, just watched Adrian being carried inside the ambulance.
