Chapter 60 : Still Love Juliet
Leon and Eva went inside the ICU to see their daughter. Apparently, her two friends were there, and then they saw Oddey lying on the hospital bed with wired attached to her.
Rita stood up. Her face was wet from all the crying. "Ms. Hermosa, Mr. Magnum."
"Oh! God," Eva reacted, while her fiance just stared in distraught at their daughter. "What...? What happened? How... did this happen?"
"We were in the drive-in. She went to the restroom alone, then the next thing we knew we heard a noise," Felix explained since his girlfriend was too emotional. "We didn't know it was a gunshot at first, until we saw her... In the restroom..."
"Who did this?" Leon grumbled.
The young couple looked at each other, then shook their heads. "We don't know. We didn't see anyone," Felix answered. "We... just saw her... you know. I tried to stop the bleeding while Rita called the ambulance, but it took so long that Gage had to drive us here."
Hearing the Romeo's name struck a nerve to Leon. "Is that so?"
"Yeah. Also, the doctor said they managed to get the bullet out, so right now, she's in a coma."
"I'm so sorry," Rita sobbed. "We should've sent her here sooner."
"Honey, it's fine," Eva assured the young lady, even hugging her. "It's not your fault. You kids did everything you can."
"She's right," Leon said. "Anyway, I'm sure it's been a stressful night for the two of you. Why don't you guys go home and rest? We'll take it from here. Besides, we want to be with our daughter."
Rita nodded. "Okay. Come on, babe."
Once the young couple left, Eva dashed to Oddey and burst into tears while Leon just stood by the foot of her bed. "Odette!" she cried. "What happened to you...?"
"Adrian. He did this," Leon grunted. All of the memories of what Adrian did to the poor man all came back to him. It was one thing that he did all those things to Leon, but the evilness was too much to bare.
"He had gone too far," Eva sobbed, then turned to her fiance. "Don't let him get away with this."
"Never." The rage Leon felt was at a boiling point since Adrian had to involve his daughter.
After that, the man went to Oddey's bed side. "I should've done something sooner that maybe it wouldn't get to this. I'm sorry, Mochie pie. I'm very sorry that Daddy wasn't there to protect you," he apologized to her tearfully, then held her dainty hands.
"But I will avenge you. I will make that man pay for what he did to you. Everything he did to you will get back to him ten times worse. I will make him suffer." The more he looked at his daughter, the more angrier he got. "I will kill him, Odette. I will make him suffer a slow and painful death. Mark my words, he will pay for what he did to you because prison is not enough punishment for him."
Leon held the rail on her bed with a tight grip.

Back in the Munro residence, the mother and son waited outside the house for the other officer to come back. The poor guy sat in the police car and groaned in pain since he was kicked in the stomach by his father. "Are you sure you don't want to go to the hospital to check that out?" the cop questioned.
"No, I'll be alright," Gage answered, yet he kept moaning right after.
"I don't understand, how did you know that we're in trouble?" Marie asked, looking confused at the officer's sudden arrival.
"Mr. Magnum," the cop answered. "He called us the second he knew what happened to his daughter."
"Good thing you came before my husband could do something worse to me and my son."
Eventually, the partner returned, "He's gone. I lost him," he informed. "I'm sorry."
"Oh, God," Marie whimpered.
"Ma'am, do you know where he can go right now? Or is there anyone he can turn to for help?"
"Henry Reese. He owns a bar and lives ten blocks from here."
"Mom, maybe you should stay somewhere, like a hotel. I'll stay with you," Gage suggested. "Dad is still out there, and all."
"That's not necessary, we can have an officer here to stay on guard until we find your father," the cop interjected.
"Well, that's settled then," Marie replied, then turned to her son. "It's going to be fine, Honey."
"Okay, I'll stay here too, Mom," Gage said to her.
Once the situation calmed down, the mother and son went inside the house again. They were quiet since they were baffled by what went on with Adrian. A man they always thought was a wonderful husband and father.
All these years, he was hiding a dark secret from them that caught up to him, and it was affecting them.
"Here you go, Honey." The mother gave her son a pack of ice and sat beside him on the couch.
"Thanks, Mom." Gage placed it on his stomach.
"I should be thanking you for saving me."
"Mom, I'll always save you even if it's from Dad," Gage sighed. He was angry at Adrian, though at the same time, he became saddened to find out his father's true colors. However, it got him thinking about the whole truth. "So, if what Mr. Magnum says about Dad is true, does this mean it's try that you used to be married to Mr. Magnum?"
Marie had no choice, but to admit that part of the truth. "I'm sorry, you have to find out this way. I'm not proud of it."
"This is unbelievable." The guy put his hand on his face, trying to process everything. "All this time, Dad is... He's evil, and because of him, Oddey is shot, and now she's in the hospital and I don't know how she is now. Mom, I saw her. She could have died. I don't... I don't know what I'd do if she's..."
"Shh... Honey, no. That's not going to happen."
"I hope so, mom."
"It's going to be okay." Marie hugged her ron to comfort him. "She's going to be okay."
The next day, it still the weekends. Gage went back to CarmU to get his belongings, so he went straight to his dorm to pack more clothes since he was staying home to accompany his mother for the time being while his father was out there somewhere.
News travelled fast about the incident the previous night that Gage heard the students were talking about it. He had to put his head down since his father caused the chaos.
Once he entered his room, Felix was there, sitting up on his bed with a book on his lap. Even after, giving him a hand with Oddey on the last hectic night they were iffy towards one another. Although, he felt bad at Gage that he had to see Oddey in such state since he could tell that he still love her.
"Hey," Gage said to his roommate.
"Hey," Felix said back.
"How... How's Oddey?"
"She survived, but in a coma right now."
It was not a good new that the Romeo wanted to hear. "Shit," he mumbled.
Felix saw how dismayed his friend, or at least his ex-friend looked. "She's gonna be okay," he assured him.
Gage just put on a crooked grin and nodded as he went to his closet and grabbed a backpack. "By the way, thanks for helping Oddey," he told him. "Good thing you took that first-aid training."
"Yeah... I guess it came in pretty handy. By the way, how are you holding up?" the roommate asked, then stood up from his bed.
"Not good," the poor guy replied. "Anyway, I'll be staying with my mom for a while. I just came here to pack some clothes."
"Okay," Felix responded. He was fidgetting from the shame while Gage began putting his things in his bag. "Uhm... if you need anything, just let me know."
Gage turned to him with a sad look on his face. "I need my best friend back. I'm sorry. I'm sorry that I..."
"Oh... no, it's cool. Let's forget about that."
"No, you were right," Gage added. "I wasn't much of a best friend to you than you are to me."
The roommate smiled and tried not to tear up. "You're not the worst friend."
"Gee... Thanks."
"I just wish you stuck by me more, that's all."
"Don't worry. Moving forward, I will be." Gage then hugged him, and just bawling.
Felix hugged him back to comfort his buddy, seeing how deeply worried he was for the one he loves. "I know. It's gonna be okay."
"I'm just so scared right now. I'm just so scared for Oddey."
"We all are. Rita and I couldn't sleep at all last night after we left the hospital when her parents came."
"I bet they're just as devastated as we are," Gage replied.
"God. Who would do this to Oddey?" Felix exasperated as he started wondering about the incident. "And... Why? And to beat her up like that... And...?"
The Romeo felt that anger again towards the real attacker. "It was my Dad."
"What?"
"It was my Dad. He... He tried to kill Oddey."
From the news, Felix was gobsmacked. "Mr. Munro!" he exclaimed. "Are you sure? How'd you know?"
"I... I saw him when I was on my way to the drive-in," Gage explained. "I didn't know it at first until I... had to put two and two together, and he admitted it when I confronted him last night."
"Shit, you think you know a person, but wait... Where is now? We have to call the police."
"Mr. Magnum called the police last night, after Rita called him, but Dad got away. That's why I'm going to stay at my house to be with my mom until he's caught."
"Got it, but won't your father come back and... I don't know, do something bad to you guys?" Felix voiced his concern. "Look what he did to Oddey."
"We'll be fine. There'll be officers gaurding the house," Gage told him.
"That's good to hear then."
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. They knew it was not Courtney because she would just barge in instead. "Delivery, from the best girlfriend ever," said the person on the other side.
"Come in, Babe," Felix replied.
"Hey, Babe," Rita chimed as she entered the room with two cold drinks in her hands from Usagi Cafe. "Gage, you're here. Does this mean you guys are...?"
The two gentlemen looked at each other and smiled. "Yeah, we are," Gage confirmed.
"Well, I can't stay mad at this face forever," Felix replied jokingly, even squeezing his face like a little kid.
"Stop it. Stop it."
"Well, I'm glad that you guys patch things up," Rita said, then gave her boyfriend his drinks. "At least one problem is solve. Oh! This makes me miss Bestie so much. I wish she's gonna be okay."
"Me too," Gage mumbled.
"The doctor said that Bestie is in a critical condition. Should wake up from the coma, but maybe she won't."
"This sucks." The Romeo became troubled again, hearing that Oddey may or may not able to make it out alive.
"I know this is hard, but let's think positive," Felix told them since his best friend and girlfriend felt hopeless about someone very dear to them. "I'm sure Oddey knows that we're all here waiting for her."
Rita clung to her boyfriend. "Thanks, babe."
Gage felt a little hope from his best friend's words. "I guess you're right."
Afterwards, the Romeo opened his drawer to take out a textbook and other papers to bring home.
However, the folded pink paper that he found on the bench by the campus garden the other time was pulled out among those piles of papers, and it fell on the floor.
