Chapter 58 : Fruit Loops Cake
In the Munro house, Adrian could not help but drown his sorrows with some beer in the kitchen. Not one, but there were three lying on the table. He was staring at the news online on his laptop that the man he hated was engaged, and there were photos of Leon and Eva being a happy couple like they were the famous royal family.
Envy was taking over his body to see that his nemesis' life was soaring. However, the wonderful life he created from betrayal and murder was falling apart right before his eyes.
"Don't celebrate yet, Hal," he grunted as he tightened his grip on the beer bottle he was holding like he wanted to break it if he could. "If I'm going down, you're going down with me."
All of a sudden, his wife came, carrying a couple of grocery bags. "Hey, honey, I'm home," she said to him, then went to the kitchen until she saw the beer bottles on the table. "You've been drinking!?"
"Isn't it obvious?" Adrian slurred his voice. Even his eyes were red.
Marie was disgusted by the mess he made at a time when she had to go to the office, and then she saw what he was sulking at. Her ex-husband and his new woman were written in a news article online after bumping into them the other day.
"That's enough of that," she huffed and quickly closed the laptop down, then started picking up the empty bottles.
"I was still reading that. Why did you do that?"
Marie just darted a firm stare at him. "Adrian, please, pull yourself together," she pleaded with him. "I understand you are going through a lot with this trial, but obsessing over Hal won't do you good. Do you understand me?"
"You're just jealous that Hal is going to be married to a woman who's twice more gorgeous than you," Adrian rambled. "That's why you closed my laptop."
From those tactless words, his wife slapped him in the face. "How dare you say that to me?" she yelled. "I have been by your side all these years, and this is what you think of me."
Adrian became even more enraged that he got up from the chair and threw one of the bottles at a wall, which made his wife so scared of him that she covered himself, thinking that she was going to get hurt again. Luckily, he wasn't, though he just glared at her.
"I don't need this, I'm going out," he grumbled, then rushed out the door afterward.
"Where are you going?" Marie chased him. "Adrian! Adrian! Where are you going? Get back here?" It was too late, the bitter man left with his car while drunk, which made his wife worried for his safety.
Sometime later, Adrian just drove by the convenience store, but he did not get out of the car. He just felt like he wanted to get away from everything that went wrong in his life. The crimes he did were coming back to him, and he had no way of out of it either.
Fury overwhelmed him so much that he just pounded the stirring wheel and roared out of anger inside the vehicle. As he kept releasing his rage, he heard cars, vans to be exact. That was when he saw a few young people coming out to buy some more snacks for their movie night.
So the man had to keep quiet so nobody would see him acting insane in his car. Although his windows were tinted anyway no one could tell who was inside anyway.
He watched numbly and somehow recognized one of them. It was Felix. Not only that, he spotted the two girls, Rita and Oddey, exiting the van to get inside the store.
Seeing the young lady who broke his son's heart ticked him up even more. Remembering how his son became crushed when he had to show him the truth of his Juliet and the fact that he was the adopted daughter of his enemy.
All he saw was red when he saw how Oddey was all smiles and giggles, including her father and soon-to-be mother, as they were going to get married. Meanwhile, his family had to suffer the pain that he caused.
The evil man just gave her death stares at the art student while she was with her friends. After that, he reached his compartment by the passenger seat next to him. He opened it and took out a gun.
"Sorry, Hal, no happy ending for you," he groaned as he glared at his nemesis' child. He waited when each one of the students entered the van once they finished buying their snacks, and that was when he started following them to get to Oddey.
----
It was nighttime, and the film club just finished the last movie that they were watching in the drive-by cinema fifteen minutes away from CarmU. They didn't necessarily watch it from their cars. There were lounge chairs for them to sit on, with some snacks provided.
Since it was over, they celebrated right after having pizza and drinking some beer. Oddey was having fun with her two friends. She was dancing and drinking in the living room when she had forgotten about Gage and their last encounter. Perhaps she felt a buzz from the alcohol that she consumed.
Some minutes later, she and the other were laughing together once they were done dancing. "And my friends said that it was going to be lame," Felix snickered.
"Well, that's their loss," Rita said to him.
"Yeah, they don't know what they're missing," Oddey added. "Besides who wouldn't want to watch an alien claymation movie."
"Thanks, and I'm glad that you guys came," the guy told them.
"Well, thank you for inviting me."
"No problem, I'd rather have you here than those guys."
"Hey, they're still your friends," his girlfriend reminded him in a firm tone. "Well, okay, I understand about Courtney and all, but Gage has been good to you somehow."
"Yeah, you guys have been friends for so long," the art student nodded.
Felix lifted a brow at her. "Wow, you have nothing but good to say about your ex-boyfriend."
"To be fair, I was the one who hurt him. I have no right to diss him anyway."
The couple just exchanged glances at each other, then back to the poor girl. "You know what, let's not talk about them for tonight then," Rita interrupted. "Look, there's cake. Aahh!! They have fruit loop cake. My favorite!"
"Ahh!! Let's get some," Oddey urged.
"Oh, you two stay here. I'll get us some." Felix, being a good boyfriend, stood up from the sofa and headed to the dining area to get three slices.
"Thanks!" the girls chimed in unison.
Rita turned to her best friend when she looked down and had something in her mind again. "You okay, bestie?" she asked.
"Yeah, why wouldn't I be?" The artist responded.
"Just checking. I just thought you'd still be upset over everything."
"A very tad bit, but I can get over it once I get a bite of that fruit loop cake. Where is it, by the way?"
They looked over to Felix and saw that he was waiting in line with a few other people who wanted the same cake. "Oh, that's gonna take a while," Rita said bluntly. "At least we'll still have some piece of it."
"Yeah," Oddey chuckled, then took another sip from her bottle. All of a sudden, a guy accidentally bumped her behind when he was dancing. The liquid splattered on her clothes, which startled the two girls.
"Oh, shit! I'm sorry," the guy apologized.
"It's fine," she assured him as she stood up to check on her outfit. It was mostly her matching top and sweater. "I should go to the bathroom to clean this up."
"I'll go with you," Rita offered.
"No, it's okay. I'm not gonna be long."
A moment later, Oddey went out all by herself since the bathroom was a little bit farther from the drive-in parking lot. Unknown to her, she was being followed by her ex's father.
About a few minutes of cleaning her clothes and applied blush on her face, Oddey exited the restroom. Suddenly, she was punched on the face by Adrian that she fell on the ground.
Oddey tried to get up, but she was pounded again, then got kicked on the stomach. She laid on the ground with bruises all over her face, yet it was not enough for her attacker when he got on top of her to put his hand on neck.
"Die, you orphan bitch." Adrian had a death grip on to the poor girl that she was struggling to breathe and fight him back.
Oddey was coughing, and looking at the monster who wanted her dead. However, she saw a sharp broken tile piece, so she grabbed it, then stabbed Adrian on the side of his shoulder.
It worked because the man let her go and hissed in pain, making Oddey quickly got up about to get away from him. "HELP!" she screamed.
However, Adrian was determined not to let her escape that he took out his gun from his back pocket, then BANG!
He shot her on the back. Twice.
Oddey was dropped on her knees, and fell lifeless on her stomach.
Adrian froze that he did what he did for revenge. After that, he stood up, and bolted away as fast as he could.
----
Anyhow, Gage was driving since he was on his way to the drive-in to get to Felix to hopefully get back to being friends by surprising him, and also talk to Oddey. He was a little nervous, knowing that it felt like the relationship was beyond repair.
Nevertheless, he was not giving up. Plus he was getting nearer to the location once the stoplight by the intersection goes green. While waiting at the front, Gage spotted a familiar car straight ahead.
It would have been just a similar looking vehicle if he had not seen his father driving it. Not only that, he was speeding and it was like he was getting away from the direction where the drive-in was.
It was baffling for Gage to see his father driving like that, but there was no time to think about it since the stoplight turned green, so he had to drive.
Once he arrived at the parking lot, all he saw were the van that the film club rented for the night. It seemed quiet at first until he got out from the car when he heard voices.
Gage turned around to the direction from where it was coming from, and saw Rita and Felix in the distance. They were in distress.
Rita was on the phone crying, while Felix was on his knees to the ground. "We need an ambulance here right now," she whimpered. "We're in the old drive-in. Please, come here fast."
"Felix! Rita!" Gage ran to them, then saw what was really going on.
"Gage, Oddey was attacked."
Felix was freaking out as he tried his best to save Oddey who was laying almost lifeless on the ground by holding onto her gunshot wounds. He looked up with tears in his eyes, "I can't stop the bleeding," he whimpered.
