Chapter 33 : Happy Morrow
It was a Saturday morning. On the contrary, it was a very delightful Saturday morning for our Romeo. Gage just finished showering and had his clothes on, while his roommate just woke up. He was all smiles and felt like a new man since that previous night. "Morning, sleepyhead," he said to his best friend, who was just waking up.
"Morning," Felix said as he sat up and stretched his body a bit. He noticed something different about his roommate. "You're up early, and... giddy."
"What can I say? It's the weekend, nice weather, and not much work to do. It's awesome."
"Uh-huh." His buddy looked at him like he was high on morphine or something.
"By the way, how was the festival?"
"It was awesome, Rita loved it. I had another surprise, dancing under the stars in the park with some band I paid to play some song," Felix answered.
"Oddey told me. I didn't know you planned that stuff."
"That's why it's a surprise. And now we're officially a couple." The roommate revealed.
"Cool. I'm glad that it worked out for you." Gage was too happy that he did not mind not being invited to the double date.
"Thanks, so what's up with you?" Felix confronted. "You have been spewing rainbows ever since I woke up. Did something happen?"
The gushing Romeo's face began to turn red with a goofy smile on his face. "Well, let's just say you were not the only one who got a girlfriend last night."
"What are you talking about?"
"Oddey and I kissed last night." Gage spilled a similar news.
"What? You and Oddey?" Felix gasped in disbelief.
"Yeah, we did."
"Oh my God." Even though they were friends, Felix was not sure how he felt about his buddy having a relationship with Oddey. "I... I didn't know you liked her."
"Sorry, I couldn't tell you that I liked her for a while now."
"It's cool, I get it. So since when...?"
"Ever since I got to know her better, she's so easy to talk to, and I want to be with her all the time," Gage expressed from the heart.
"Told you," His buddy snickered.
"I know, I know you did."
Felix tried not to look disappointed. "Had I known, I shouldn't have invited Jerry in the first place."
"Dude, it's fine. It gave me a reason that I should tell her how I felt before it was too late," Gage said.
"Well, I'm happy for you too, man."
"Thanks."
"Me and Rita, and now, you and Oddey. Now that you guys are boyfriend and girlfriend. What are the odds, huh?"
"Yeah, I know, right?" The Romeo beamed. "I couldn't believe it either."
"All that's left is for Courtney to get a boyfriend," Felix joked.
"Dude..." Gage called him out from that.
"What? I'm just saying. It's not like anyone is knocking on her door anyway."
"She will murder you if she hears you. Plus, that's kinda crossing the line there."
"It's a good thing. She doesn't have ears everywhere then."
The architect student recalled something in mind. "By the way, interesting fact, did you know that Jerry likes Haley Kin?"
His roommate gulped. "Really?" he stammered. "I had no clue. So what about it?"
"Just wondering had you known that, would you have still invited Jerry?"
"Maybe not." Felix felt like he was being questioned by a police officer. "Why'd you ask? I mean, you didn't want to go. Did you?"
"Yeah," Gage responded. "Just asking, that's all."
"Alright, well, I better take a shower to get ready for the day, you know." Felix got up from his bed, grabbed some fresh clothes to wear, and took his towel from a rack. After that, he got out of the door, leaving his roommate doubting his intention about the double date.
----
Meanwhile, in the girls' dorm, Rita talked about her surprise date from her already boyfriend, not knowing that Oddey had some exciting news to share. So the art student tried to find a good time to do it, as she listened to her best friend narrating what went on with her and Felix.
"So he had this private band for us to dance under the stars." The beaming bestie described her lovely night in sheer awe. "It was so wonderful."
"No wonder you're glowing. Did you two kiss?"
"With some tongue action," Rita giggled, then the girls screamed in utter euphoria.
"Oh my God, seriously?!" Oddey squealed.
"Okay, maybe not exactly, but still, it was steamy."
"I bet."
"Enough about me. How were you and Jerry?" Her best friend asked. "I was kinda worried about you the whole time, by the way. I mean, I know Jerry is not bad news or anything. I just thought I did not abandon you just to have my moment with Felix."
The young artist became flustered. "Well, about that..."
"Oh no, I must be the worst bestie ever."
"No, no, Jerry was great, and he's kinda cool in a friend kinda way. I didn't mind being with him. But something else did happen, and that something didn't happen with Jerry." Oddey grinned from ear to ear
"No!" Rita gasped as she instantly realized what the lovestruck girl meant.
"Yes!"
"No!"
"Yes!"
"No! How?" The roommate asked. "Wait. I thought he was giving you the cold shoulder."
"Apparently, he kinda got upset," Oddey grinned.
"Over you and Jerry? NO WAY!!" Rita began screaming out of excitement, then grabbed her shoulders, got to her face, and gave her best friend the crazy eyes. "Tell me everything. EVERYTHING."
"Okay, I went to the auditorium to check out the balcony set, and Gage followed me there. Also, he caught me reciting a line from a scene."
"Is that when he confessed his feelings to you?"
"No," the Juliet answered.
"Oh."
"He asked me to rehearse the scene from the top. A moment after, he climbed up to test out if, you know, it won't collapse." Oddey explained while it was her best friend's turn to listen intensely that she got hooked on it. "He sat down with me."
"And then?" Rita asked.
"I think we were just saying our lines, and the next thing I knew, we kissed."
"AAHH!" Rita could not help but scream with overwhelming joy.
"I honestly thought that he was just acting."
"But, it's not! He wouldn't do it if it were an act. You see, Gage really likes you. It was just a matter of time. Did he admit it from there?"
"Yes," Oddey confirmed with a smile on her face.
"OMG!" Rita shrieked once more and then hugged her best friend. Afterward, they dashed to their mini-fridge and took a couple of bottled milk tea.
Oddey even lifted a brow as she held the drink in her hand. "Seriously?"
"We don't have wine. It'll do. Now, where were we? AAHHH!! now tell me, what's the kiss like?" The roomie asked in an eager tone while opening the bottle in her hand.
"It was... nice."
"Nice? that's all you have to say? little more details, please." Rita had to shock the answer out of the Juliet.
"Alright, it was incredible and... and... breath-taking. I could still feel his lips, and I could tell from our kiss that he wanted more," Oddey explained. "This may not be my first, but it was magical like how I imagined it would be."
"Go on," the best friend urged, then slurped the drink.
"I can never forget it. It felt like I was floating because I couldn't feel my entire body when our lips touched."
"I know, right? that's how I felt when I kissed Felix, but anyway, I am so very happy for you. I always knew that you guys were right for each other. Plus, I knew this would happen."
"Yup," Oddey replied, but then her smile was slowly vanishing, then began drinking the bottled milk tea.
"What's wrong?" Rita moaned after seeing a sad face.
"I'm just thinking about my Dad."
"There's that, and no offense, it sucks that you still have to think about that. By the way, did you tell Gage about... you?"
"No. I wanted to, but I... I can't." The Juliet sighed and drank more of her bottled beverage.
"Why not?"
"I got scared after he told me how he felt about me, I'm afraid to lose him because of our family's problem."
"Yeah, but that's their problem, not yours and Gage," the best friend said to her.
"It's still our family," Oddey exasperated in frustration.
"Are you going to tell him?"
"Honestly, I don't know. I know I should, but I'm not sure if I can, you know. As happy as I am now that we're together, I was also hoping that we're not," Oddey moaned. "At the same time, I don't want to let him go."
"The heart wants what the heart wants, Bestie," Rita reminded. "You can't fight off your feelings, even if it's someone that your Dad is opposed to. It's like Romeo and Juliet, you know."
"Unlike the story in the play, Romeo found out who his Juliet was when they first met in that Masquerade ball, and their love is doomed from the start just like mine and Gage's."
"Never mind. Bad example. But still, you two are right for each other. You can't just ignore that."
"I know, I feel bad for lying to him," Oddey added.
"Well, what are you going to do?" Rita questioned. "I don't want to pressure you, but now that you two are in a committed relationship, shouldn't you have to tell him the truth soon-ish?"
"I know I should, but you know that I can't. If I tell Gage, I betray my Dad. If I kept lying, I'd be the worst girlfriend ever."
"Come on, Bestie. You can't let your Dad control you like that, especially when it involves your love life," the best friend advised.
"He's not controlling my love life. Sort of. He just wants me to stay away from Gage's evil father, which also means that I have to stay away from Gage."
Rita cringed. "Oh, that's right. I almost forgot about that part. Okay, we'll figure something out some other time because now, this should be our happy time. Let's focus on being the happiest girlfriend ever."
Oddey smiled. "Right, right."
"I'm just so thrilled that you... and... Gage. Oh! I still can't believe it. I do, but you know what I mean. This is like hashtag relationship goals. We should at least be happy about that."
"You're right, and I am happy," The Juliet beamed. She went from being in good spirits, then feeling bumed about the opposing family thing, and returned to a blissful mood just like that.
"Yeah! Not to mention, we both have boyfriends on the same night," Her best friend rambled in sheer joy with her hands up in the air. "You and Gage, and me and Felix. Double the romance and double the fun. This is too perfect. What if in five years? I mean, what are the odds that we are both going to have the same anniversary of the start of our relationship."
"That means we'll all have to celebrate together."
"Maybe in five years, we'll have a double wedding," Rita expressed.
Oddey was just as thrilled, but thinking that far of the future was too much for her. "Woah... chill there."
"Sorry."
"But I do hope that would happen."
"Right? See. Let's focus on the good for the time being," Her best friend told her.
"I suppose." Oddey became convinced by her best friend's words.
"I got an idea. Since we both have boyfriends now, we should have another double date," Rita suggested. "And this time, no inviting a fifth wheel, and no asking the wrong person. I guess it's true what they say, third times the charm."
"Yup." Then the girls giggled and just went on talking about with their girl talk about their beloved boyfriends.
