Chapter 6

The princess had been unusually quiet for a few days, Hook didn't seem to mind it so much after all she wasn't screaming at him and he hadn't ended the day with a headache for a few days. However, it was much more fun when everything was a fight and he was tempted to disturb the peace just to get her riled up, but every time they shared a glance her eyes were full of defeat and he almost felt bad for her. The princess had just learned that her father was a murderer and everything she had been told was a lie and Hook couldn't think of a better form of revenge for the King who had taken everything from him. Not only had he stole the Kings only daughter, the princess was no longer interested in returning home. She would rather live out her days on the sea then go back to a kingdom built on blood and lies.
"How many days until we make port?"
Speak of the devil
Hook glanced to his side as Kassidy joined him at the helm.
"Ah, so she does speak. I thought you had forgotten how."
"I've had nothing to say to you." Kassidy replied and walked over to the side and leaned over watching the water.
"4 days." Hook replied to her question.
"I trust you've been keeping my father's men fed?" Kassidy asked.
"Aye, princess."
Kassidy turned around and glared at him, and there it was the spark in her eyes that he had almost missed. Almost
"I said do not call me princess." Kassidy spat.
"Then do not act like one." Hook replied. "Why be so concerned over those men? They lied to you too."
"For fear of their lives. They will likely be killed for treason when they return." Kassidy said.
"Then why am I letting them go?" Hook asked.
"Because you said you would. At least let them die in their homeland."
"Fair enough..Kassidy." Hook said. It was the first time he had actually called her by name. Kassidy felt her lips curl into a small smile and there was nothing she could do to stop it.
"Well, look at that. You can do something with your face besides scowl." Hook grinned and just like that the scowl was back and Kassidy stormed away from him like the bratty princess she still was.

Kassidy paced in the Captain's quarters growling in frustration. She hated that her only solitude was in this room, when Hook was sailing, she hated that she had ever gone to that stupid Tavern that night, but what she hated most of all was that even though the pirate captain had kidnapped her, had her friend killed, and was constantly irritating her, she couldn't hate him. The captains hands were just as blood stained, if not more than her fathers, but he was one thing her father was not. He was honest, he told her the truth when no one else would and even if she wanted to set him on fire, she respected that much about him.

It was a couple evenings later when Hook actually found himself wandering the ship looking for the princess. She had been particularly unruly to him all day, so he ordered her to stay in his quarters for the rest of the day yet when he went to check on her she was not there, he couldn't say he was truly surprised. So here he was, leaving Smee at the helm to track down a princess. He told himself it was to make sure she wasn't roasting his crew with her fire hands or trying to drown herself in the damn sea again. He ignored the nagging feeling inside of him, telling him to check on her just to make sure she was actually okay. He didn't want to give a bloody damn about the princess. Nothing that, that God awful King who took away his Milah, spawned could ever be worth his concern. When he found Kassidy, She was sitting up on the edge of the ship with her legs dangling over the sea, watching the stars. He approached her cautiously, so she wouldn't be started and fall. He rested his forearms next to her and leaned over looking at the water.
"If you fall again, I am not going after you this time." He warned.
"Believe it or not, Captain I am actually an excellent swimmer." Kassidy said not taking her eyes off of the stars.
"Aye, but can you swim faster than the sharks?" Hook asked. Kassidy swallowed hard.
"I'm..not going to fall, Hook. Don't you have a ship to Captain?"
"I do, but, you were not where I told you to stay. If you would just follow the rules, I could get back to it."
"I told you, I don't often do as I am told." Kassidy shrugged.
"I'm well aware." Hook said glaring at her. Kassidy glanced at him and smirked.
"I needed some air. If you wanted me to stay put you should have put me in chains, however now that you know I have magic, you would have found I have ways of getting out of them." She gave him a taunting smile. She was getting just a little too bold for his liking.
"Consider yourself lucky, I haven't thrown you overboard yet."
"You wouldn't do that." Kassidy scoffed.
"I wouldn't?" Hook asked and pushed her off the side of the ship catching her wrist so she was now dangling over the water.
"Hook!" She screamed.
"You said you were an excellent swimmer, shall we test that?" He asked and pretended he was going to drop her. She screeched and swung her other hand up clinging to his wrist for dear life.
"Pull me up!!" She demanded.
"Oh, well that wasn't very nice." Hook mock pouted. Kassidy kicked at the side of the ship trying to climb. She looked down her eyes widened with terror as she saw a shark fin circling just below her.
"Hook! Please!" She begged.
"Please what?" Hook asked and grinned.
"Just pull me up, there's a shark down there!" She said with tears in her gray eyes.
"Ask nicely." Hook said.
"Hook!" She spat. Hook Let his grip slip just a little. She screamed again.
"No! Stop!" Kassidy cried.
"Ask. Nicely." Hook said again.
"Please, Captain. Please pull me up!" Kassidy begged again. Hook pulled her back onto the ship. Kassidy shook with both fear and rage.
"You..Asshole!" She spat at him and went to slap him but he caught her wrist.
" I just let you live. Be grateful. I could have dropped your stubborn ass to the shark."
Kassidy glared at him.
"Learn your place. You have been making demands since you could learn to talk I'd imagine. You are used to people bowing before you, but on my ship, my word is law. I make the demands, you follow them or you can make the sharks happy. Remember this the next time I tell you to do something because next time I won't hold on." Hook said returning her glare letting go of her wrist.
"Fine. I'll just go back to the cabin." Kassidy muttered.
"Oh no. I can't trust you out of my sight. You'll just have to stay by my side for the rest of the night."
Kassidy was not at all amused but was by no means willing to become acquainted with the shark.

Kassidy sat at the Captains feet while he sailed the ship. It was a quiet night, and the Sea was calm and Kassidy was struggling to keep her eyes open. She was tired and usually asleep by now. Hook looked down at her and noticed how her eyes were dark with exhaustion, He knew she didn't sleep well as is, the floor was not comfortable, and she often had nightmares so maybe it was a little cruel to make her sit out here with him all night after letting her dangle over the ship fearing for her life.
No, don't think like that. She deserves what she gets.
He desperately tried to push the thought from his head.
"Look at you being a good little pet." He sneered and brought his hand down to pet her head. She slapped his hand away.
"Touch me again and They'll call you Captain Hooks" Kassidy spat.
"Are we getting tired love?" Hook asked and smirked. "You are incredibly bitchy when you are tired."
"Please stop talking, I was enjoying the silence." Kassidy muttered.
"Fine." Hook grumbled and the two of them were in silence for quite a while.
"Who taught you to swordfight?" Hook asked suddenly.
"James. One of the men you have locked in your hold." Kassidy said. Hook chuckled.
"You could have used a better teacher."
"I almost bested you and you know it." Kassidy said.
"You fought well, for a woman." Hook grinned.
"For..a..No I'm just going to pretend you didn't say that. Are you suggesting that you could teach me better?" Kassidy asked.
"Aye. I can. I could teach you a great many things if you would stop being such a brat and learn to follow instructions."
Kassidy looked away from him.
"You said it yourself, you no longer wish to go home. Might as well learn a thing or two." Hook shrugged.
"I may not want to go home, but that doesn't mean I want to be a pirate."
"Then you, love, are missing out." Hook smirked. "Being a pirate, is being free. I go where I want, when I want and no one tells me otherwise."
"Well, I could do that too if you let me off the damn ship." Kassidy sighed.
"I tried earlier but you screamed and cried until I let you back on." Hook laughed.
Kassidy narrowed her eyes at him and stood up to stretch her legs
"James said..that my father loved Milah." Kassidy said. "Is that true?"
"I don't think your father is capable of love to be honest. He wanted something he couldn't have, and he killed her so no one else could." Hook said. His eyes clouded over. Kassidy frowned and her own eyes clouded over with tears and she wasn't sure why.
"I've kept you out here long enough. Go rest." Hook said.
"I'm fine Captain.." Kassidy said.
"That was an order." He said sharply glaring at her. Kassidy gave him a quick nod and walked to the cabin.

Hook walked into the Cabin to find Kassidy sprawled on the floor in her normal spot asleep. She looked horribly uncomfortable.
Get a grip Jones, she's a prisoner on your ship she's lucky she's not in the brig. He thought, yet the longer he looked at her, the more he actually felt a little bad.
"Bloody hell.." He sighed and walked over and bent down and picked her up and placed her on his bed. It's not like he was using it at the moment. He was simply taking a break. He pulled the blanket over her and she stirred a little and he tried to slowly creep out of the room.
"Captain?" Kassidy asked.
Damnit.
"Go back to sleep." He instructed.
"Wait.." She said sleepily. He sighed and turned around.
"What is it?" He asked.
"I know it doesn't mean anything to you, especially coming from me. But I'm truly sorry for what my father did to you. It wasn't fair and I wish with every part of me that I could fix it." Kassidy said with tears in her eyes. This was a different side of the princess, one that he hadn't seen yet. There was a flash of warmth over his cold heart. He cleared his throat and shook it off.
"Go back to sleep." He said again. Kassidy put her head back down on the pillow and pulled the blanket up to her chin as Hook walked out of the Cabin. He paused for a second. Her apology shouldn't have meant a damn thing to him..so why did it?

The day had arrived for the ship to make port. Hook's prisoners binds were cut.
"You are free to go. Deliver the king a message, unless he wants his next round of men to be sent back in pieces he will cease any planned attacks. I have far more important things to be doing with my time than killing his men. If he insists on attacking he should stop hiding behind his men and we will finish things once and for all." Hook said. Two of the men nodded and left the ship leaving James.
"James do not be foolish." Kassidy said.
"Please, Captain I am begging you let her go." James said. Hook smirked.
"I'll tell you what. If the princess wants to go with you. She is free to do so." Hook said and stepped aside. Kassidy looked at Hook and then back to James who held his hand out.
"Princess, come with me. I'll take you back home where you belong." He said. Kassidy thought for a moment and then shook her head.
"No." She said.
"I'm..sorry No? Princess you have duties to your kingdom. Your father will not be happy to hear you refused to come home." James said.
"I have no kingdom and as far as I am concerned, I have no father. He killed the woman that this man loved out of jealousy and hate and then, he killed my mother because I was not born a son."
"Your father loves you Kassidy." James said. "Please, come with me"
"No. If he truly loved me he wouldn't send his men to fight his battles. He would come himself, and then I could tell him in person that it would be a cold day in hell before I returned to that dreadful place!" Kassidy spat. James shook his head in disappointment.
"So be it." He said. "Remember that you had the chance." He added before turning and leaving the ship.
"Well, I think your loyalty deserves a reward. You may leave the ship with the rest of us today." Hook said with a smirk. Kassidy put her hands on her hips.
"Loyalty? I am not Loy-"
"Or you could stay here and scrub the decks" Hook warned narrowing his eyes.
"I'd rather not..." Kassidy said and then followed him quietly off of the ship.
"You are free to wander, Return to the ship at sundown. Do not make me come and find you."
"You were about to let me go, why do you care what I do?" Kassidy asked.
"You chose to stay, so you follow my rules." Hook shrugged.
"Fine." Kassidy sighed. "I'll return at sundown. You have my word. May I go now?" She asked. Hook nodded and gestured for her to go.

Kassidy had wandered the market, and snatched a few things to eat, and was even daring enough to steal a new set of clothes which she promptly changed into. She had picked up a pair of black leather trousers, a black blouse and a red corset vest, She had picked up a pair of boots from a different vendor and she didn't pay for any of it which was thrilling to her. The sun had set as she roamed She should have been heading back to the ship but it felt good just to wander.
"Didn't anyone ever tell you, it's not smart for pretty little girls to roam after dark?" A voice whispered in her ear as she was grabbed from behind. She yelped and started kicking and swinging. Her foot made contact with her attackers knee and she was thrown hard to the ground. She cringed as her head hit the stoned road. She flipped over and backed herself into a corner watching the man stalk closer and closer to her blood dripped from the cut on her brow bone into her eye making it harder to see. The man was just feet from her now.
"Oh I'm going to enjo-"
"You'll enjoy nothing." Hook said from behind the man. Kassidy had never been so relieved to hear his voice. The man spun around.
"Hook... I'..I didn't know-"
"So you know me." Hook said.
"Y..yes sir." The man said putting his hands up.
"Then you should know that I do not like it when people touch my things." Hook growled and without hesitation he ran the man through with his sword. Kassidy flinched as the man fell to the ground and Hook wiped his blade clean as he approached Kassidy with an angry glare.
Relief gone.
He pulled her to her feet.
"I'm sorry! I was on my way back.. And the man.. He grabbed me and I.. I.. I'm-"
"Did he hurt you?" Hook asked taking her by surprise.
"N..No. Well.. I mean he threw me.. But he didn't touch me." Kassidy replied. Hook wiped the blood that dripped from her wound.
"Good." He said simply and then looked her up and down. She may not have wanted to be a pirate but she sure looked the part.
"You are wearing different clothes." He said.
"Yeah I thought it was time to get some clothes that actually fit." Kassidy shrugged.
"How did you come by these clothes?" Hook asked.
"I..stole them." Kassidy replied. Hook grinned ear to ear.
"Well, Princess I knew there was a little pirate in you." He chuckled Kassidy felt a smirk tug at her lips as she followed him back to the ship.
