Chapter 8 Soft Side
Steeljaw had been staring at the wall for an hour, he needed to work on getting his strength back, taking a deep breath he started mimicking the moves he had seen Metalsound do when she was training. He remembered asking her why she was making such slow movements, she had explained to him that is was an exercise called "Tai Chi". She had been teaching him when she wasn't busy, which surprised him, other then going on patrols and looking for Energon there wasn't much of anything else. But over the past few days he had noticed that she would disappear for a few hours, he followed her once before and she had noticed.
Metalsound seemed on edge when she saw he was following her, he had watched her take a deep breath as if to calm herself.
"This is a part of the ship that I don't want you to be in. So please, do not come here."
With a deep exhale he released the tension that was in his body, Metalsound was right about this exercise being relaxing once he had gotten the hand of it.
Metalsound let out a frustrated sigh as she looked at the ship's ground bridge, she had been procrastinating when she should have been fixing it.
"Well not today, it's time to fix this thing," she told herself in determination.
:: Milady are you sure you don't want me to help,:: D asked with worry as she took off the cover that protected the ground bridges main frame.
"D I'll be fine," she assured as she started pulling out one of the mainframes.
She didn't notice that one of them was giving off electrical shocks as she went to grab it, as soon as she touched it she felt an icy sting on her hand. Gasping in pain she quickly pulled her hand out, along with the board, throwing it on the floor as she quickly made her way to Med-bay. With small sounds if pain she looked for the ointment to sooth her stinging hand, which was hard to do with only one hand.
'Ahh come on where is it,' she asked herself.
:: Milady are you ok? You took off so fast that I couldn't ask,:: D asked in concern as she opened one if the cabinets.
"The stupid thing shocked me," she snapped feeling frustrated when she couldn't find what she was looking for.
Feeling something in her hand she pulled it out with excitement, quickly the joy turned into anger when she saw it was a wrench.
With a frustrated growl she threw the tool as hard as she could, making it zoom past the door, narrowly missing Steeljaw.
Seeing the tool coming at him from the side he moved his head back, hearing it clang against the wall and floor he cautiously walked inside.
"What did that poor wrench ever do to--," his tease came to a slow stop as she turned her head towards the Wolf-con, glaring at him.
"I do not have time for games Steeljaw," she seethed through the pain, continueing her frantic search for something to relieve the stinging in her hand.
Watching her for a moment Steeljaw noticed something on shelf that looked like an oil bottle and grinned as he that it was just out of her reach. "Is this what you're looking for," he asked as he picked up the bottle.
Looking up from her frantic search Metalsound made a small gasp in joy and went to take the bottle from the blue-grey mech. He couldn't help but continue his teasing and raised his arm, keeping the item just out of her reach. Growling softly she moved to her tiptoes to reach for the bottle only for him to move it to his other hand.
"Steeljaw come on give it here."
::Couldn't you just--::
"If I do that it will do more harm then good," Metalsound growled.
"Do what?"
::Shock you,:: D replied simply.
"You can do that," the wolf-con asked in curiosity.
"I used to now hand me the bottle, my hand is really starting to hurt," she growled in pain.
Looking at her injured hand Steeljaw gently took her hand applied the ointment and carefully rubbed it in. Metalsound's hand jerked back but he had a firm grip, "That feels better," she sighed in relief. "Thank you," she whispered after a moment of silence.
Steeljaw looked up in surprise, he didn't expect to hear her say those two words, letting go of her hand he was quiet for a moment taking in what she had just said.
"You're welcome. How did you hurt your hand anyway," Steeljaw asked as he let go of her hand.
"I was trying to fix my ground bridge. I think that was why I haven't been messing with it," she replied as she tested her hand, "The stupid thing might have shocked me at some point before and I can't remember when that may have happened."
"I could take a look at it if you'd like," he offered.
"I appreciate it but I don't want you to get hurt too. I'll figure something out, we could go on a patrol."
"Fine, but you'll have to get it fixed at somepoint," he sighed as they headed out of the room.
Once they were outside the sky was slowly getting dark, signalling a storm was approaching. A soft rumble of thunder made the femme look up with wide optics, she could feel her spark pulsing faster than what it should.
"I just remembered I had something to take care of actually," Metalsound replied trying to sound convincing as she backed away.
"Don't tell me you're scared of storms," the wolf-con teased.
"Of course not, I just remembered that I needed to do something," she flinched a little when there was another soft rumble of thunder.
Steeljaw shrugged and started walking, "If you say so, I'll be back in a while."
After a few minutes it had started to rain and lightening was dancing across the sky. With a low growl the mech listed his ped to shake the mud off only to jump at the thunder that sounded like an explosion, it even shook the ground beneath him. He was glad Metalsound wasn't there to see him like this, she probably would have teased him. The thunder rumbled through the sky loudly when he suddenly heard a ping on his comm. link.
"He--"
::You need to come back quickly.::
Something in D's voice made Steeljaw's spark stop for a moment, "What's wrong," he asked as calmly as he could, transforming he raced back to the ship.
::It's..a little difficult to explain,:: D replied with hesitation as the mech arrived at the ship. Shaking the water off of him he ran through the ship, searching in different rooms for the femme. "Can you at least tell me where she is," Steeljaw growled as unwanted panic started to take over. As he continued the search he was relieved that there was no one else on the ship.
::She's in here," D's voice sounded in a near by room.
Slowly making his way inside a flash of lightening blinded him and all he could hear was the loud rumble of thunder, before he could react something ran passed him sending his on his back. "And we're sure there's no one else on board," he asked as he sat up.
::Yes, it's just the three of us,:: to my knowledge, he thought to himself. He had an odd feeling that Metalsound was guarding something in the room that Steeljaw wasn't allowed in.
With a sigh the wolf-con continued his search for the Predacon, was she really scared of storms? He was a little surprised that she was able to knock him down like she had, she was strong he'll give her that. Hearing a soft whimper coming from his room he peeked his head inside, finding it empty he walked inside, there was another flash of lightening and everything had gone dark.
"D, what just happened?"
He was met with silence, "Hello," he called out, nothing.
Something must have knocked out the power to the ship, he thought to himself as he sat on the berth. He barely heard the thunder but he felt the femme jump on him, sending him into the berth, shaking his head he saw her a lightening illuminated the room, she was in her beast form. He was about to tease her but when he opened his mouth he saw the fear in her purple optics. She was shaking like a leaf, her scared optics were wide as she kept turning her head when ever there was a soft rumble. This was a completely different femme compared to the one he was used to.
"S-Steeljaw--" she whimpered softly as thunder shook the room causing her to let out a frightened yelp and pressed her head against his chest.
He'll admit that the thunder scared him a little but the way Metalsound was acting, she was behaving more like a scared child. Taking the covers he placed them over her head and turned her head so she wouldn't see the lightening as much, placing his hand on her helm he covered her ear as he held her close to his chest. "Steel--"
"Shhh," he whispered as he tried not to blush, "The storm will be over soon."
She was happy that he couldn't see her blush, still shaking she heard a familiar soft melody.
"If this is to end in fire
Then we should all burn together
Watch the flames climb high into the night
Calling out father, oh, stand by and we will
Watch the flames burn auburn on
The mountain side"
The voice was different from the original, but it made her calm down a little. Ironicly it was the sang song she would sing to her pups. "Thank you," she whispered as she slowly closed her optics. With the song playing and the warmth of the covers and his body she quickly fell into recharge.
"You're welcome," Steeljaw replied quietly so he wouldn't disturb her. Great now I'm stuck here. I suppose it is kind of comfortable, he thought as he slipped into recharge.
It wasn't until later that night that D was able to come back online, when he did he found Metalsound and Steeljaw in his berth fast asleep. He had half a mind to shoot Steeljaw but he saw how peaceful his master was in her sleep, not to mention her head was on his chest. With a silent sigh and a mental smirk he quickly snapped a picture of them, he could easily tease the mech when he would wake the next morning. For now, he would let them be.
Feeling the sun's rays through the covers Steeljaw slowly opened his optics, seeing his nose pressed against Metalsound's own nose. His optics widened as he froze in place.
"Hush I'm still sleeping," she mumbled as she wrapped her tail around his waist.
