Chapter 9
Grian watched silently as Xisuma knelt on the floor, pooling as much void energy as he could and focusing it into a small rectangle pressed against the wall. Xisuma stumbled to the floor, a satisfied smile on his face as he closed his eyes, the world coming back into focus again.
"It stays open for 24 hours, right?" Grian asked, and Xisuma nodded, steadying himself and standing up.
"Unless there's nobody in this world loading up the portal chunk, at which point we won't be able to go back. False volunteered to scout out the new world so we don't have a repeat of this," Xisuma said, standing up fully and staring at the indigo swirls. Grian struggled to reply, instead simply nodding, biting his lip and looking away.
"If you want to stay here in case you're friends come back-" Xisuma started but was cut off by Grian shaking his head.
"No, they're not coming back. Staying here will do nothing - I need to move on," Grian stated, glancing over his shoulder as False came down the stairs.
"I'll take 5 minutes at most - and provided nothing's wrong with the world we should be able to move on by tonight," False explained to Grian, as Xisuma likely already knew that having done it many times before.
"Once everyone's left the world, what happens to it?" Grian asked quietly, watching as False entered the portal and faded away, turning back to Xisuma.
"In theory it should reset to it's original form before any players were here," Xisuma said, and Grian swallowed nodding and taking a deep breath.
"Has anything like this happened before?"
"There's records in the admin hub of people joining glitched worlds, but it's so extremely rare that most admins don't check before they go through the portal. This is the worst case I think though, but I don't know if the world has ever been inhabited before."
"I guess this is a first then, isn't it?" Xisuma nodded. They stood in awkward silence for a few minutes until False stumbled back through, giving them a thumbs up and stepping fully out.
"It looks fine, I think it would be a nice world," she said, and Xisuma nodded, climbing up the ladder and shouting that they would leave in a few minutes. Grian stayed silent as the hermits poured down the ladder, being dragged out of his conflicted thoughts when Mumbo rested a hand on his shoulder.
"You don't have to come if you don't want to," he reassured him, but Grian just shook his head.
"I do want to come, it's just-" he sighed. "I don't know really, I guess I just spent so much time in this world, and now it's just gonna get reset. I dunno how I feel really," he admitted. Mumbo smiled.
"That's fine G, I get it. Who knows, maybe someone made a backup of it or something," he offered, but Grian knew it was a lie, and even if it wasn't intentional, he hadn't been a good enough admin to remember to make backups.
"This is the point where I make a big grand speech about moving on to Season 6 and change," Xisuma said. "But to be honest I already did that and I think we're all eager just to move on." Murmurs of agreement echoed around the room, but Grian stayed silent, his thoughts too conflicted. Ren ran to the back of the room, taking a run up before jumping into the portal cannon-ball style, and Grian laughed as the room quickly emptied of people until it was only him, Xisuma and Mumbo left.
"Come on, " Mumbo whispered. "Last one to the other side is a wimp." Grian laughed, following after him, looking behind before he went and seeing Xisuma following him into the portal, hoping the world would be reset and reset them in the process.
He stumbled out of the portal onto a sandy beach, feeling a similar disorientation to when he went through the Evo portals, so the familiarity helped him get over it a lot quicker, managing to stand up just before Mumbo. The newer Hermits took longer to get used to the weird sensation, but some of the older ones were fairly used to it like Xisuma. He looked around, ocean coming into view, far more beautiful than the Evo oceans ever had been. The sea floor was made of more than just gravel, and there was so much more detail.
"Is this where you were supposed to go?" Grian asked Xisuma, and he nodded, a smile on our face.
"I guess now you're officially a hermit," Xisuma says, and Mumbo laughed.
"Welcome to our large, dysfunctional family."
That wasn't very long sorry but I accidentally started a cult so I've been a bit busy.
And yes spending an hour and a half on VC with Lucid and Melon instead of writing counts as being busy.
