Chapter 5 (21)

Grian stumbled out of the portal, collecting his stuff, looking up and internally groaning when he saw one of the listeners standing there as if waiting. Scratch that, they were definitely waiting, considering they'd basically summoned him while he was chatting with Xisuma.

"I'm assuming you've guessed why we've summoned you here?" Jace asked, handing a piece of paper to Grian with a simple character profile, and he nodded.

"Hypixel break-in time?" he asked, and Jace gave him a shrug.

"I mean it's an open server that we can access from the hub... It's more the hacking into player files to teleport to the Watcher that's the issue.

"So we aim to try not to get banned?" Grian asked, and Jace nodded, glancing over the file again, reading the bold name at the top reading Ewroshi. He looked up at Syra, putting the file on a nearby log and nodding.

"Alright then, how long do you think we have?" Grian asked, and Jace shrugged, looking at Syra questioningly.

"I'd say an hour max before the admins get onto us, factoring in the time it'd take to work out who we are. Talking of which," Syra said, grabbing something from behind and handing it to him. Grian froze when he saw what it was, turning it over, his eyes falling on the name scratched onto the inside.

Xelqua.

"Where did you get this, no, better question, why do I need this?" Grian asked, trying to calm down his erratic breathing, looking up and meeting where he assumed Jace's eyes were.

"Identity. They see your face, it'll make it a million times easier to identify you. Faster they identify you, faster you get banned and less time we have."

"Hang on, how can they identify us other than faces?"

"From our player ID. It just takes much longer."

"We have to go to the hub first, right?" Grian asked, and they both nodded, handing him another piece of paper with a link on.

"How- Why are you giving me this?" he asked nervously, slightly confused.

"Practice," Jace stated, raising an eyebrow. "Is that not where you were working towards? This is simply a real-world application."

"But I don't think I can-" Grian argued, trying to hand it back.

"If you're sure," Jace shrugged, pulling it out of his hand and glancing at Syra, who just shrugged, placing a square of obsidian. A look of concentration over Jace's face as they shoved their hand into the square, clenching their fist to help them channel their energy, staggering back once it finally lit, as Syra pushed the piece of paper into it, turning the white light inside to a shade of light orange as she pulled her hand back out, white lines stretched across her knuckles, before she relaxed her hand, taking a few seconds before her breathing returned to normal.

"Are you willing to go first?" Jace asked, looking up from Syra, concern visible through the mask.

Grian nodded, looking back as he stepped through, waiting as Jace and Syra followed him into the hub, as he looked around, smiling. He'd been here when he'd set up evo and after Yandere, but that had been a few years ago, and he felt slight nostalgia hit him as he looked around, his gaze falling on the place where Mineplex used to be.

"Is that Hypixel?" he asked, and Jace nodded as he slotted the mask over his face, hoping to avoid anyone who'd recognise him, realising that his red sweater was fairly recognisable.

Oh well, too late to change now.

Syra and Jace glanced at each other, walking into it as Grian followed, relieved he had so much practice going through portals so that he didn't have to hesitate once they walked in, instead heading to a corner of the hub.

"Alright, Syra, you look through the bedwars area, I'll search the skyblock. Xelqua, you go for the Skywars section. Research shows that's the places Ewroshi visits most, and if you find him set off Watchdog. That should be fairly easy, just fly around a bit, Watchdog won't be able to get to you but Hypixel staff will think you've been banned and it'll send a signal to all three of us that one of us has found him. We'll teleport then and we summon a portal back to Evo. Got that?" Jace asked, noticing Grian flinch slightly when he was referred to as Xelqua but he nodded, walking towards the skywars arena, about to step into it when he felt a prickle on his shoulder.

He glanced back, his eyes settling onto a figure that felt slightly familiar, before he ignored him and walked into the portal, instincts telling him to go for solo skywars lobby 79. He trusted his instincts well enough, they'd only let him down once. Well, more than once but that was irrelevant.

After a few seconds, he glanced at the player list, smiling slightly when he saw the name he was partially expecting to see. Ewroshi was a couple of islands away, and Grian quickly summoned his obsidian sword as they locked eyes, Grian hoping he was right about his hunch. Ewroshi (I have to copy and paste that name every time cause I don't know how to spell it) flung suddenly into the air, and Grian watched as he flung himself onto his island, his own sword glistening as he struggled to defend the hit, using a stone sword to deflect suspicion. Grian was quickly disarmed, giving Ewroshi a chance to get a hit on him before he switched to his obsidian sword, managing to break part of the mask off and get a hit on him near his eyes, making his vision blur.

His opponent's eyes were a pale of light purple, but it had darkened as the island they were on surrounded with purple, and the wiser players quickly logged out, and the few stragglers were kicked soon after. Grian felt himself shake with anger slightly, pushing Ewroshi back with his purple magic, making it clear at this point that he was a watcher if it wasn't already obvious. A few members of Hypixel staff started to flash in, a couple of hybrids, a creeper or two and a pig, none of whom managed to breach the barrier of pure energy that Grian was struggling to keep up, trying to keep the power inside so it wouldn't affect anyone else

Grian stumbled back as Ewroshi overpowered him, pushing him back and closer to the voiaad, his sword nearing closer to his face, as Grian realised he was simply trying to reveal his identity so he'd get banned. Fueled with panic, Grian went onto almost autopilot, anger starting to swell as he remembered what the watchers had done to him, grunting as he pushed back, sending a burst of purple magic towards him and storming forwards, his fists clenched and blood trickling down his cheek from where Ewroshi made contact.

His fingers sparked with purple, his eyes turning a darker shade of blue as Ewroshi moved forward, a thin string of magic, this time tinted with gold. The string slid towards Grian, wrapping itself around his neck, making him struggle to breathe as he pulled it off with his magic, quickly drained of energy as he staggered back up, Ewroshi using this as another opportunity, dragging his sword across his exposed arm and then grasping his mask, pulling it off and sending it clattering onto the floor as he tilted his head, intrigue on his face.

"You're a defect, aren't you?" Grian didn't respond, leaping at him and pushing his sword into his arm; he gave him a choked laugh, his voice rough and course with pain, as he simultaneously tried to stop the blood flow and angrily fought back against Grian, leading him to stagger back closer towards the void, as Grian pushed his hand towards the force field, releasing it as a last resort, feeling the admins rush in and pull them apart, as Grian started to fly, his wings partially broken, but still enough to keep him in the air. His vision blurred, dizziness starting to set in as he sunk back, starting to fall into slumber as he felt someone's arms around him, pulling him up and back to Evo.
