(11) oops
Oops, my baby, you woke up in my bed
Oops, we broke up, we are better off as friends
Now I accidentally need you, I don't know what to do
Oops, baby, I love you

The next week went by pretty quickly. Since I had been given two months off from work, I had nothing much to do. Aman and I lived under one roof but we were hardly talking thanks to our little fight. To be honest, I preferred things this way. We had promised to try but even as house mates we couldn't make it work, how could we as life partners? It wasn't going to happen between us.
All I did for the week was just catch up with emails and work from home. I made Anidhi tell me everything that was going on and I made sure Kartik doesn't find out.
With so much free time, I was also doing a lot of shopping. In case of Aman, I saw him in the morning and then just before going to sleep. He was keeping himself busy as well. I guess he had given up on us too.
I didn't talk to my mother much, I was still mad at her for getting me into therapy. God knows, how she found a therapist crazier than all her patients combined. I still don't know why she told me the horse story.
In the afternoon, I went to the kitchen to fix myself a sandwich. As I was chopping a tomato, Aman entered the kitchen to my surprise.
"Mira."
I turned around to see a very serious expression on his face. "Yes?"
"My mother wants me to meet a girl," he said.
Wow, that was fast. "Oh? Why are you telling me?"
"I think you should know. I am going to see her you know just for her sake. This girl is a daughter of her friend. She was supposed to get married last year but her husband to be, died in a car accident. It was an arrange marriage. But anyway, her mom really wants us to meet."
"That's amazing. It's about time you move on," I said with a smile. "Does she know you are living with your ex-wife?"
I wasn't jealous or anything but it had only been a few months since we divorced. How can he go around seeing girls?
"This is only three months, right?" he asked. "Anyway, I am only seeing her because her mom and my mom have been insisting a lot. I am not looking to date or get married anytime soon."
"Why? I think you totally should start dating. I bet this girl is beautiful and you both have seen the pain of separation. Imagine how well you both will get along," I said. I kept my tone cool and casual.
"Mira," he said glumly. "If I wish to, I will date whoever I want but I don't need to right now."
"'Well, if you decide to make things work with her, I would be totally cool with that. If you want, I can tell her that this living thing we are only doing for your grandmother and we both have completely moved on."
"Why can't you just say what you are feeling?" he said and moved closer. He had crossed his arms and was looking at me with a frown. "Tell me this bothers you."
"It does not bother me."
"Oh, well then I am going to get ready. I have been invited to dinner at her place," he said and left the kitchen.

"Are you going to ruin all my flowers?" Anidhi asked irritated. "You are jealous, it's final."
It was a sunday afternoon, so Anidhi was home. With nothing to do, I decided to hang out at her place. We were sitting out in the Veranda and I had plucked a sunflower out of a pot. I kept tearing off one petal after another, saying I-am-jealous and I-am-not-jealous. Somehow the last petal always ended at I-am-jealous.
My life is so pathetic. "Well, of course I am. I have been with him for years, is it that easy to forget me and move on to the next one?"
"Hey, he said he is only seeing her for his mother's sake. Chill!"
"No, he shouldn't see anyone for anyone's sake," I said and pouted. "Ugh, I feel so miserable," and tears welled up in my eyes. "He is moving on..."
"Heeeeeeey, babe. Come on, I thought this is what you wanted, right? You divorced him, right?"
"Right..." I said. "It's not that. It just it finally hit me. What about the amazing moments we shared together? All the things we went through. All things we did together. How could it be easy for him to forget all that? I feel like I am an old dirty teddy bear and now he is going to get a new one."
"You are thinking too much into it. You decided to leave him and he isn't moving on."
"What if he likes her?"
She didn't reply to it. "Why did you divorce him anyway?"
And this time I didn't say anything. Luckily, she didn't pester me because the bell rang. "It must be Raven."
"What?" I asked.
"He wanted to speak to you, he said you haven't been returning his calls."
I didn't want to speak to Raven after our drunk night. I wasn't mad at him but I didn't want him me to see me like this, when I am mostly upset all the time.
"Looks like someone has been crying" he said as soon as he entered the veranda. "Whats up with you? Where have you been?"
"I didn't want you to see my ugly crying face."
"You are always beautiful, Mira." he said and smiled widely. When he smiled, his dimples showed. I was noticing this for the first time.
"No, that's crap. I have put on post-divorce weight."
"No, you look slim to me."
"What is this? Pity compliments for the divorced lady?"
"I think you are more than just a divorced lady."
"That's what I keep telling her." Anidhi added.
And for the first time that day, I had to smile. "Sorry, I didn't return your calls."
"It's fine, Mira."
"My confidence has hit an all time low these days. I feel like I am not good enough for anyone anymore, even as a friend." I was dangerously close to tears while saying this.
"That's bullshit. You are a wonderful girl," Anidhi replied. "Stop overthinking."
"I agree with her. And attractive too," Raven said and winked at me.
I laughed a little. Raven was probably flirting with me to cheer me up. But anyway, any distraction was better at the moment. I didn't want to think about the fact that the person I had loved for all these years was meeting another girl right now, that he could potentially be with.
Anidhi filled Raven in on why I was crying. "But his grandmother made you two live together so that you could work things out right?" Raven asked.
"Yeah," I said. "She did."
"Wouldn't she be mad at his mom then for making him meet girls? And him for going ahead with it?"
"I don't know."
"Just tell her if you don't want him to see any girls for the time that you two live together," he said. "After all its kind of wrong for him to meet anyone for marriage or dating purposes while you are staying with him."
"Oh, yeah, right." I didn't think about this. All I remember is that I kept telling him to go ahead and date her. Ugh, I am so dumb.
Then he got up. "Now get up. I found this amazing place for dim sums and we are going to try them out. Get ready you two."
"I can't come, I have to go see the surrogate. You guys have fun." Anidhi said.
"Coming?" he asked me.
"Sure."
