Master Jiraiya's Final Words
The next day After the Bathhouse Incident Kakashi took Naruto and I to the Decipher Department, he said it was very important and we are needed to assist Shikamaru.
But when we got there Kakashi took off without a word. Annoyed I walked into the office and was greeted by Shikamaru and a woman wearing glasses, known as Shiho
"Hey Y/N sensei, Naruto."
"Hey Shikamaru, so what's up what do you need help with?
"This is a code Jiraiya left on the back of Fukasaku's back." Shikamaru handed my a picture of the toads back.
"You've been really quiet for a while, do you notice anything?" Shikamaru asked Naruto as I handed the picture to him.
"Nah." Naruto said with a sigh.
"I talked to Lady Tsunade and Kakashi Sesnei. They had no clue, so I'm guessing Jiraiya wrote this note with you two specifically in mind." Shikamaru pointed to me and Naruto, but then made a fist.
"No. I'm positive he did, I'm sure. There's just got to be something there."
"Please tell us anything that comes to mind, anything at all. It's not like we're asking you to instantly decode the message." Shino said nudging her glasses on her nose.
I bit my lip as Naruto leaned up against the window.
"I can't think of anything."
"Hmm. There is one thing that's been bothering me since I saw it." Naruto said folding his arms over his chest.
Shikamaru took a step towards Naruto.
"What?"
"Well there's all those numbers right? So why is there one katakana letter among all of them?"
Shikamaru and Shiho then looked confused.
"Katakana letter?"
I looked back at the pictures just as confused as they are.
"Where do you see that?" Shikamaru and Shiho looked back at the picture too.
Naruto walked up and pointed to the number nine, the very first number among the others.
"See, right here."
Shikamaru looked at Naruto, "What are you talking about, isn't that just the number nine?"
Naruto looked at his friend "That's what I thought at first, but no. Look again, it's not a number at all. It's the katakana letter for the sound 'ta'." I looked again, racking my brain
"Well yeah, I suppose you could interpret it that way. But it's still a big stretch."
"Frankly Naruto what makes you think it's the letter for 'ta' instead of the number nine anyway?"
I gave her a glare, "Why do you have to say it like that?"
Naruto smiled at her "Because. You know Pervy Sage, always writing books." Me and Naruto gasped at the same time.
"That's right Naruto. I mean he was a writer after all "
Naruto smiled at me and closed his eyes remembering his times with our Master.
"And I traveled all over with him. Wherever we went he always made me read his handwritten draft."
"Me too." I sighed happily that Jiraiya was still the same after our time together.
"He'd ask me what I thought about them. They were really boring though."
"Not to mention pervy." I mumbled and Naruto chuckled opening his eyes and looking back at the picture.
"Anyway. Each time he used the letter 'ta' it was hard to read, because I saw it it looked like number nine to me."
"It's a penmenship quirk." Shiho was surprised that she didn't notice this before. Now that Naruto mentioned it, it was hard for me to read it too. I always thought it was nine too.
"So it was a habit then?" Shikamaru took a piece of paper and a pencil, twirling it in his hand a few times before writing.
"Like so, Lord Jiraiya wrote the katakana letter 'ta'. He had a habit of drawing the first stroke shorter than most. So the first and third strokes get connected, and since he rounds his second stroke the whole thing ends up looking like the number nine."
Me and Naruto watched as he drew the letter 'ta' like how Jiraiya did in the picture. It was all starting to make sense now, He always had bad handwriting.
Shiho came back with a book on her hand showing me and Naruto.
"This is a sample of Jiraiya's handwriting." She pointed a a sentence in the book and sure enough it was his.
"It's the same."
"Jiraiya planned this he knew that Naruto and Y/N would remember this idiosyncrasy as his. That he wrote the katakana 'ta' like nine. So that was the links between Jiraiya, Y/N and Naruto. We finally figured it out." Shiho fixed her glasses again with pride.
Shikamaru slammed his hand on the table and turned to Naruto.
"What were you thinking Naruto? Why didn't you mention such and important thing sooner?"
"Hey! I didn't either! Don't put this all on Naruto!" I interjected slamming my fist on the table in anger.
"What's the big deal about knowing that it's the letter 'ta'? Sheesh."
Shikamaru rubbed his forehead in annoyance bit then opened his eyes and looked at us.
"Wait. That's it. It was back when you were reading Jiraiya's manuscripts, that was it, that's when you found out about his writing habits. the code must be from the book you were reading."
"Book?"
"Yes! That's exactly right Shikamaru. It must be I believe more clues must be hidden somewhere inside his writings as well. The numbers in the code probably represent a order or lines or, or even page numbers. It's gotta be related to the encryption key." Shiho was right.
" She's right Naruto, you've must have read something I haven't read at all."
"Naruto which book were you reading?"
"Umm uh..Make Out.. something.. what was it?"
"Okay, then tell me how many of Jiraiya's books have been published?"
Naruto put a hand under his chin in thought.
"About four or five I think. " I said trying to remember which one Naruto was talking about, maybe Kakashi would know? He loves Jiraiya's books.
"Good, that's not too many. We will just have to check all of them."
The window behind us opened and we all looked towards it seeing Kakashi standing outside it.
"Well speak of the devil." I mumbled smiling at him.
"It's probably, this one." Kakashi held out a green book, labeled Make Out Tactics.
"Make out tactics." Shikamaru said in surprise.
"Kakashi Sesnei?" Naruto asked as he walked up to Kakashi.
"It's been on my mind so I decided to pop in, and when I overheard your voices I think I caught most of it." He started to wave the book from side to side.
"I'm pretty sure this is the book you were looking for."
"Make out tactics, yeah I'm pretty sure that's one the one pervy sage was working on all through our training together."
"Why didn't you just use the door like a normal person?" I asked pointing at the door behind me. Kakashi just shrugged his shoulders at me and smiled.
"This 'ta' is the first used character in the code. Out of all Jiraiya's books this is the only title with the word that begin with 'ta'."
My heaad was pounding, this is all confusing and so much to take in, I sat in a chair sighing rubbing my temples as the talked.
"Please read the first sentence out loud." Shiho asked Kakashi, my ears perked up and I whipped my head to him to see him stare at her in shock.
"What?! Uhh.." He looked visibly uncomfortable at her request. He cleared his throat still not saying what it says.
"Umm. No.. I mean.. uh." He started to blush and all I could do was laugh at him. He was so flustered about reading a simple sentence that it has got to be dirty.
"Look! What is the problem?! Just hurry up and read it already?" Naruto was getting more annoyed with Kakashi.
Kakashi's eyes only grew bigger and he stuttered.
"Come on! Spit it out would ya?!"
Kakashi began to sweat heavily and blush darker. I couldn't take it anymore, no matter how much I loved seeing him wiggle like a worm on a hook, I had to step in and help.
I got up from my chair and walked over to him plucking the book from his hand. I looked at the page and cleared my throat before proudly saying.
"I love you." Shiho began to write everything that I said.
"Next."
"Among all the women there, she was the most beautiful and curvy."
"Next."
"Her breasts were like milky white mountains. Holding them in my hands felt like heaven."
"Again."
"With one finger I circled her...um.. her soaking c-core."
"And last one"
"This isn't a race you know, she said as she grabbed his...c-c- penis." She wrote it all down until we were done.
Kakashi was now steaming with embarrassment, everyone here now knowing how much of a pervert he really was. I closed the book and put it back in his back pouch.
"You read this crap in public?!" I exclaimed at Kakashi who was still highly embarrassed.
"Okay all pages are done."
"What's it say?" Naruto asked looking down at Shiho's paper.
"The real one's not among them. That's what it says."
"What the hell does that mean?" I asked patted Kakashi on the back as he slumped forward in the window.
"No idea."
"We outta relay this is to Lord Fukasaku right away. Perhaps it will mean something to him since he fought Pein too" Kakashi said standing back up.
Shikamaru turned to us "Then lets go ask Lady Tsunade to summon this Lord Fukasaku right away."
"May I come along with you guys too?" Shiho asked Shikamaru blushing hard.
"Yeah. Please do Shiho."
She lit like a light, "Great. Thank you."
"Let's do this. We gotta tell Grandma Tsunade what we found out." Naruto said grabbing the picture off the table, everyone began to walk out of the room, but I stayed standing by the window with Kakashi.
"You coming?" He asked holding out his hand to help me out of the window.
"No, I think I'll stay here for a bit, cleanup and put the books away." I looked at the table where the book that had Jiraiya's handwriting sample sat open.
"You sure?"
I nodded my head and looked at him, I pulled his mask down and gave him a soft, sweet kiss. I pulled away but he grabbed my shirt and pulled me in for another kiss.
"Go I'll meet up with you soon." He pulled his mask back up and jumped away following the others.
I sighed heavily and walked to the table picking up the book and staring at Masters handwriting.
"You really are a pervy old man huh?" I traced each letter he had written, tears brimming my eyes.
"Damn it." I wishpered closing the book and rubbing my eyes harshly. I put the book away and stacked all the papers neatly. I couldn't face Lady Tsunade again, not yet. So I decided to go visit Rin and Obito's graves.
I walked through the rows of graves, my mind on autopilot and found Obito's graves first. I crouched down and picked all the stray leaves off of his headstone.
"Long time so see huh Obito?" I hugged my arms close to my body.
"I'm sorry I haven't been by since I got back. A lot has happened in that time frame." A lump formed in my throat as I spoke.
"I miss you Obito.. I guess I should tell you that me and Kakashi are thing now.. only took 16 years after Rin..." I sighed and sat down pulling up some grass.
"You two really did love her huh? I'm sorry for all the things I did when we were team seven.. I never thought I was better than anyone else."
I sat there for a while, and stood up feeling more sorrow and anger course through me.
Kakashi?
I sensed his chakra and followed it, after walking for a while I found him at the K.I.A. monument that I had broke when I was pissed off at Kakashi and Rin. It was tapped off and the pieces were already picked up and gone.
I stood behind Kakashi, his head was hung low, his fists were balled up at his sides. I took a step forward, nervously.
"Kakashi?" I asked taking another step.
"You broke it? Were you that pissed off at me and jealous of a dead comrade that you had to break this monument?"
His voice was low and held so much hurt and anger.
"I-I didn't mean to. I was so angry and I wasn't in control of my strength.."
"This was the only place I could go and be alone. A place that I would be able to see her. To see Rin and Obito, and you destroyed it." He turned to me, his visible eye holding unshed tears.
"To see her? Are you seriously going to do this right now?" I asked crossing my arms glaring Kakashi down.
"Look, I've tried to get better, but I can't do that when every goddamn thing is about you!"
His voice made me take a small step back. The hell has gotten into him to yell at me like this?
"What the hell is your problem Kakashi?!" I yelled back holding my ground.
"Why do I have to figure out why I'm like this and still have treat you like a princess when you're sad?!"
I growled at him. I was seething. He's just an asshole, he hasn't changed since we were team 7. Always losing his temper when it comes to Rin.
"You know what? Fuck you Kakashi! You are such a lair, you still love her! Always have and always will right? Well you know what? Fine!" I yelled taking a step forward at him.
"Oh what are you going to do? Leave again?!"
That hit my heart hard. I physically jerked my body back, like he had actually hit me.
"Yeah. That's exactly what I'll do. If you have no place in your heart for me then what the hell am I even doing here with you?" It was his turn to take a step back.
"Fine by me. Go."
I gasped loudly at him, my eyes growing wide. So this is how he really feels huh? So all that 'I love you' crap was just fake, he was just trying to fill the void he left because of Rin. I turned my back to him wiping my eyes and ran away.
I ran past everyone in the village, ran past Kakashi's apartment complex, past Yamato's house. I ran to the gates and Naruto stood there with Lady Tsunade, Shikamaru and Shiho.
"Y/N Sesnei! I'm leaving to go train with Grandpa toad!" He sounded so excited. I quickly composed myself and hugged him tightly, he hugged me back equally as tight and sighed into my neck.
"I'll miss you kid. Make sure you bath, and eat plenty of carbs, you're gonna need them. And don't misbehave, this is a big honor so don't screw it up, ya hear?" I pulled away and held him at arms length.
"You know you sound like you're my mom." My heart stopped and more tears invaded my eyes.
"Damn it Naruto." I hugged him again and then pulled away stepping back and he poofed away.
"I'll be return in a few days. I have to go back to the Land Of Snow for a while." I said not looking at Lady Tsunade.
"Take your time."
"Thank you." And with that I ran off and leaped from branch to branch as I cried. I cried for my master, I cried for Naruto, and I cried about losing my love even though I never had him in the first place.
