"Are you a vampire?"
Seokjin gulped hard at Yoongi's question. He had invited his best friend to his house after Taehyung left, prepared for everything to finally make sense to him. Judging by the way Jin gaped at him, Yoongi confirms it to himself. His friends are all vampires and Yoongi, as Jimin once said, is somehow still alive.
"Did Taehyung say something to you?" Seokjin asked, crossing his legs on Yoongi's bed as they sat up and spoke to one another. "Did he talk about vampires?" he asked.
"Not really." Yoongi shook his head and leaned back against his wooden headboard. "But you are. You're going to tell me why you've left me out of everything and why I'm even a part of this," he demanded to know. "Why? Is it true that you guys are vampires? How is that possible? And why is me, a human, your friend?"
Seokjin sighed to himself, averting his eyes from the human. "You don't seem to be freaked out by the idea of vampires being real."
"I'm more upset," Yoongi admitted. "I've sat here for nearly a week now thinking that I had done something wrong. I knew you guys were keeping things from me, but I thought you all hated me." He inhaled deeply, eyes not coming into contact with Jin's. "You started ignoring me, started to whisper, gave me guilty looks— I'm more upset and kind of confused with myself than surprised with everything."
That's a tiny lie.
Sure he's still bitter, but he is shocked. To be honest, he was starting to think it was all a dream. Maybe Taehyung wasn't ever in his bedroom. Maybe he would wake up tomorrow and he never even went to that party, was never almost killed, never met Taehyung and was saved by him multiple times.
But vampires being real is just something that Yoongi would have to try and believe, whether he trusts it or not. So what if his friends are vampires? Do they drink people's blood? Why haven't they done so to Yoongi? Yoongi has been alone with them more times than he can even imagine and none of his friends ever bit him or acted weirdly towards him— not until the night of the party, when Namjoon had to take Yoongi away from Hoseok because he had a fear of blood. Lie.
But Yoongi has bled in front of them before, right? Surely he had. So why haven't they just sucked him dry and left him dead?
"We are vampires," Seokjin confirmed, sighing to himself. "I'm truly quite concerned that you didn't figure out much sooner. We've been sloppy and not cautious at all. We were all bad at trying to hide it from you, like when Hoseok tries to cuddle you, we always fear you won't hear his heart beating. We fear that we'll accidentally forget to breathe like a normal human, and we fear you'll notice how cold we are or realize that we never age." He frowned to himself. "It's quite hard."
Yoongi took it all in, feeling oblivious to every little detail. He doesn't pay attention to things like that. He doesn't realize.
"Do you even honestly believe me, Yoongi?" Seokjin tilted his head, eyebrows creasing together. "I mean, did Taehyung show you? What did he even tell you?"
Yoongi shrugged. "Said he's a vampire," he told him. "Showed me his fangs."
"Ah!" Seokjin smiled softly, bringing out his fangs cautiously. Yoongi could feel his body shake as he chuckled, seeing his best friend stick his tongue between the two pointed teeth. "Our fangs. That's all he showed you? No speed, strength, maybe explanations? He didn't mention anything else?"
It took a moment for Yoongi to recall. "Do you know anything about a T?" he asked. Seokjin furrowed his eyebrows at Yoongi.
"A T? No. What does that mean?"
Yoongi hummed. "Nothing," he said. "He also mentioned a coven. Oh, but I have a question before you continue speaking." He pouted to his best friend. "Why does Jimin hate me so much? Why did he want to kill me? Taehyung said that it was because they thought you knew that he saved me. Why is that?"
Seokjin raised his shoulders as well. "Beats me," he sighed. "We didn't even know about it until tonight. Why did Taehyung save you, and why didn't you tell us about that?"
"I—" Yoongi closed his mouth, not sure of how to answer that. Yeah, why didn't he mention it to his friends? If he had, what would've happened? Would they hurt Taehyung? "Why should it matter if Taehyung saves me? He even told me that he doesn't know why he did it. So why can't we just drop it—"
"No." Seokjin spoke low, stern. "They were going to kill you tonight, Yoongi."
Yoongi frowned. "Not just tonight," he admitted quietly. Seokjin clenched his fists as he listened. "The other day at the library, when you came up to me and Taehyung. He was there for a reason, you know..."
"What reason?"
"I told you," Yoongi whined, trying to make his friend understand him. "Taehyung saved me multiple times. He saved me at the party, at the library when Jungkook came onto me, and this evening when I came over to your house. Taehyung saved me from Jimin and Jungkook—"
"Why the hell is he doing that?" Jin asked, his eyes narrowed. "You need to stay away from him, Yoongi." He reached forward and placed his hand on Yoongi's knee to make sure he has his attention. "It's suspicious, what he's doing. We don't go hanging around Jimin and his little pets he's got stuck up his ass."
Yoongi placed his hand on Seokjin's. "But—"
"Yoongi," Seokjin cut him off, his grip tightening. "He can kill you. They can kill you. Don't think for a second that they won't." He removed his hand, looking away from his best friend. "Jimin is awful. Just stay away from them, please. For me?"
-
Yoongi in fact did not stay away from them.
From Taehyung.
The weekend arrived and he found himself outside on his porch, waiting for Taehyung. He very left a very cliché secret note in Taehyung's locker, inviting him to meet Yoongi there on his porch that Saturday evening. He truly wasn't expecting to see him, but sure enough, Taehyung showed up on time.
"What do you want?"
Yoongi's head shot up at the voice, eyes averting away from his notes from class. He was hunching on the steps to his home, knees up to his face and notebook placed on them, silently reading to himself, waiting. He was waiting for Taehyung.
He put his pencil in the metal holes of the notebook and looked up at Taehyung. "You actually came here," he said in awe.
Taehyung rolled his eyes playfully and took a step forward, twisting around and settling down right next to the smaller. His skin was cold against Yoongi's, of course. He was wearing all black, a t-shirt and black shorts as if it wasn't winter and as if he didn't care. There was even a set of black glasses on the bridge of his nose, framing his face perfectly, his curly black locks falling around the rim.
"You think I wasn't coming?"
Yoongi merely shrugged at the question. "You're wearing all black," he changed the conversation. "Looks scary."
"Sarcasm." Taehyung chuckled to himself. "I may not be human, but you're gonna respect me like one." He snatched Yoongi's notebook from his lap and placed it to the side, grabbing onto Yoongi's wrist and pulling him off of the steps, confusion striking the human. "Hold on tight," Taehyung smirked.
He stooped down, picking Yoongi up in bridal style and earning a gasp as Yoongi held on around Taehyung's neck, wind harsh against his skin as Taehyung suddenly leaped, carrying both him and Yoongi onto the roof of Yoongi's house. Yoongi's heart was racing as he realized what was happening so quickly. They were now on top of the house, looking out over the other houses surrounding them.
Yoongi gaped at the view. The sun was beginning to set— pink, blueish-grey, and soft oranges coloring the sky beautifully. Dark clouds were shaded in those colors, the trees around them looking like mere shadows outlined by the pretty sky.
He slowly sank onto the slope of the roof, not even realizing that he was just following Taehyung's moves, who was already sitting down and admiring the view as well.
"Wow," Yoongi muttered.
"It's not the prettiest thing I've seen." Taehyung shrugged. He had a soft smile on his face though, still liking the view. Yoongi peeked at him instead, the light from the sun shining on his face. Taehyung then suddenly smiled back at Yoongi. "Are you thinking about how I'm okay with the sunlight?"
Yoongi blinked in confusion. "I actually was not," he said. Taehyung furrowed his eyebrows, humming as he looked back at the sunset. "But if you don't care to, please elaborate."
"The sun doesn't do anything to us." Taehyung held out his arms and looked at them. "It tingles," he told Yoongi. "It does tingle. It doesn't hurt us though."
"Then what does?"
Taehyung's head shot back to Yoongi, squinting at him. "You trying to hurt me, Yoongi?" His voice turned playful as a small smile made an appearance.
"No," Yoongi muttered. "Just curious."
"The usual." Taehyung shook his head in disbelief. "I still can't get over the fact that you aren't scared of us." He laid back onto the roof, staring at the sky as Yoongi looked down at him, watching as the vampire's eyes mapped out the clouds. "I see you at school with your friends. You don't seem scared at all."
Yoongi shook his head. "I'm not."
"How?" Taehyung whispered before he grinned at the sky. "So fearless. I wouldn't expect anything less, to be honest." The words stuck to Yoongi for a moment. Taehyung wouldn't expect anything less from Yoongi. What is that even supposed to mean?
"What about you?" Yoongi asked.
Taehyung's eyes fell back into Yoongi's, the glowing of his golden eyes looking beautiful as the sun hit them. "I have one fear." He smiled weakly. "But I don't have to worry about it for now. For now," He sat back up and reached for Yoongi's hand. "Will you be my friend?"
Yoongi's heart dropped.
He can't, right? Or at least he shouldn't. This is the exact opposite of what Seokjin told him to do. He didn't even know why he asked Taehyung to come over. What was he expecting? Why does he feel this way? Why did he want to see Taehyung today?
As Taehyung intertwined their fingers, Yoongi couldn't help but feel his heart pound in his chest. He blushed to himself, averting his eyes as he realized that Taehyung most definitely can hear his heartbeat right now. For some reason, he can't bring himself to say no.
"Your friends..."
Taehyung rolled his eyes. "My friends won't be the problem," he assured him. "Jimin was just mad that I attacked him at the party—"
"Jimin was the one who did that?" Yoongi's eyes widened at the realization. "Why- Why did you save me? You went against Jimin. You stole his— his midnight snack!"
"Well..." Taehyung looked down at their hands and held tighter, chuckling lightly at Yoongi's words. "You're my friend, Yoongi. I can't just let Jimin hurt you, can I?"
Yoongi frowned at that. That's a hell of a way to turn it around onto him. He knew that there was a reason that Taehyung saved him, knew there was a reason that Taehyung would go against his own family to do so.
But Taehyung won't tell him.
"Yeah," he murmured. "Friends."
