Deadly Stares
"What?" I snap out trying to understand what he meant.
"I...er...I mean I want you to forgive me" He stutters
I looked straight at him.
I don't know why my feelings are all over the place when I'm with him, I mean 2 years ago I was laughing and talking with him for hours and we felt so comfortable with each other.
But now, now you can sense the strong tension in the room when we're together.
Tamir closed the door and started to walk towards me.
The room felt like it was closing in on me and the temperature felt like it was rising a hundred degrees.
I'm not claustrophobic but I'm pretty sure I'm experiencing the feeling right now.
Tamir was only standing a couple of inches away from me. My breathing tensed and I felt my heart beating fast as if it was going to jump out of my chest.
"Hanan I'm so sorry" His hazel eyes almost pierced into mine.
I have two choices.
I can have a grudge on him forever.
Or forgive him.
I don't know what kind of person people expect me to be, but I know I'm not weak no matter how low people think of me.
People mistaken forgiveness for weakness, but it takes a strong person to forgive another.
I'm going to be strong and forgive him, but I'm not stupid enough to forget what he has done.
I might be forgiving but I'm not stupid.
"I forgive you" I say to him with a blank tone with my eyes staring at the cold scratched up mahogany floor.
He unlocked the door.
He smiled at me and extended his arm to me and grabbed my hand.
It's been a long time since I've seen that smile.
"Thank you" He said while still holding my hand.
It all felt like it was a daze until my mom opened the door.
"Hanan I need to speak with you" She said giving me her dangerous stare.
Why does she look so mad? I ask myself.
She only gives me her signature killer stare when I've done something wrong.
My mom left the door open before she went down to the living room.
"I'll see you tomorrow morning" I say to him quickly trying to remember if I had done something wrong recently.
"Goodnight beautiful" He replied
I left the room before closing the door behind me.
"Beautiful" huh? I mentally laugh.
But I physically blush.
I quickly remembered my mom's killer stare and I head downstairs to the living room where I found Hajer and my mom talking.
I over hear them taking about Tamir or something.
I didn't really pay attention because my mom's killer stare was scaring me now.
Hajer left the room wide-eyed in a panic after saying goodnight to my mother.
I wonder what my paranoid mom asked her, either way it looks like I'm about to find out when she starts her infamous staring game with me.
"Hanan" My mother starts patting the couch to gesture to come sit with her.
"Yes Ma" I mentally roll my eyes as I sat down beside her.
"I raised you to know the difference between what's halal and what's haram on your own, am I right?" She looks straight at me without blinking.
"Yeah mom, I think I know the difference" I squint my eyes trying to understand where she's going with this.
"I just want you to understand that the friendship you have with Tamir needs boundaries."
I still could not understand what she means by "boundaries."
"Hanan, You are not a little girl anymore. You are a young women now, and I don't see how your friendship with Tamir is appropriate anymore." She looks serious than ever before.
I've always known that there was going to be a day when me and Tamir were going to stop being "friends" but I didn't know that day would come so soon.
I opened my mouth to speak to my mom but I heard Hajer's voice come out.
"HANAN!!!!!!!" Hajer screamed at the top of her lungs and I felt my heart fall to the ground.
