S O P H I A

The day had continued the way I had planned. I had explored a bit of the city of Michigan, got used to my new surroundings and made a bit of progress finding a suitable job.

It wasn't a daily occurrence when your mindless nightmare was a reality, with nothing more but pure grief that extensively left a hole in your heart.

I still couldn't get over the fact of the accident and how Caleb and his family were somehow apart of it

Did they know the victim? Or were they just bystanders who had witnessed the scene?

But no usual bystanders would grief as much as they did over a random victim that was injured, in which they had no part in.

My various thoughts ran through my mind as I make my way back home after a long, exhausting day. I knew I couldn't leave the accident as a mental image, but my presence wouldn't have made anything better.

It would have only made everything so much worse.

I drive through the quiet neighbourhood, the only thing I had left were my thoughts and the street lights leading my way.

The atmosphere was eerily silent as my car smoothly traveled across the road. The night was closing near as the houses situated against the sidewalks began to switch off their lights and close their blinds, preparing to end their day.

It was only when I was nearing the apartment did I notice various cars parked and people amongst the sidewalk.

They all differed from colour and size, their types accentuating their worth. Some of them were occupied with passengers whilst others were parked amongst the others.

I was slightly confused at the amount of people a unit could hold, since they were situated across my apartment block.

Slowly nearing the block, loud music was heard, flowing throughout the street with its ear piercing sound. Screams and shouts from people were also heard as a various number of teenagers were situated in the front yard.

Once I successfully find a parking spot, I speed walk towards the riot.

Only now did I realise what was happening.

A huge party was taking place in my apartment block. Much more groups of teenagers were located everywhere, some holding cups and chugging whilst others were puking in the bushes.

The units were covered in toilet paper, some extending towards the ground whilst other parts covered the vast majority of the length of the front yard.

I could not believe this was happening right now.

The girls were all wearing skimpy clothes, most of them exceeding over their butts. The boys were wearing casual clothing, but some were half naked with no tops on.

As the screaming and cheering from the people get progressively louder, I run towards the door and push my way past the people who were blocking the hallways. It was trashed with cups, plates and even had traces of substances splattered and stained across the walls. The music was booming even louder inside, pouncing within my eardrums and vibrating my whole body.

I was slightly confused and irritated at what person would even think about making their party here, but I knew only one other teenager who lived here.

Caleb.

My eyes roll to their own accord as I continue to push my way through. Everyone was either drunk or passed out to even think and analyse their thoughts. The song "Down" by Jay Sean was currently playing, the dance floor occupied with a variety of teens failing to dance effortlessly on both feet.

During the stages of my absolute failure at trying to get past, a random girl bumps straight into me, flying me backward towards the ground.

"Sorry about that, sweetie, I didn't see you there!" The girl grabs ahold of my arm and pulls me up effortlessly, her uncontrollable strength falling me forward this time. She giggles hysterically at her clumsiness, tears streaming down her cheeks.

"You look like you need a drink, girl! Here!" Her hand that occupied the cup in her hand was pushed towards me. I look inside and witness the most disgusting looking liquid.

I internally gag and cover my mouth.

What is wrong with these imbeciles?

"Um, no thanks. I'm...good." I stop myself from gagging at the sight.

"Aw, you're such a party pooper! Even though she was clearly joking, I was quite surprised by her attitude. The way she was already comfortable talking to me like we've been best friends for as long as we can remember.

I smile at her sense of humour.

"Well, I may be a little bitch, but at least I know my limits. And by the looks of things, I'm pretty sure you've stepped over yours a long time ago."

The girl giggles again, placing her hand on my shoulder.

"Oo, someone's fierce!" She winks at her accusation and I couldn't resist laughing.

She places the rim of the cup against her lips as I take my time to speculate my surroundings. The music continues to blast heavily whilst multiple others dance towards the rhythm. Most of them were drunk, laughing and screaming.

The colourful lights exceeded across the hallway, the colours vividly changing.

"This is ridiculous. This has to stop."

Right at that moment, Caleb emerges from the crowd, almost like he was asked to be here. He pulls the girl towards his side.

Where did he even come from?

I angrily furrow my eyebrows, clearly indicating that he was stupid to host this party.

But he was good at ignoring me. Which made me even more displeased.

"Cay! Where have you been, man? I've been looking everywhere for you!"

"Don't call me that."

The girl laughs loudly, swaying uncomfortably on her feet.

"I'm just living my life, Cay. Live a little!"

Caleb sighs irritably, grabbing onto her waist to ease her in the opposite direction.

He never notices my presence.

"Let's go get you some water."

He turns away, leading a very drunk and too excited girl away from the crowd.

"Bye, little one!" She manoeuvres her way from Caleb's grip, jumping around and sending me kisses in the air.

He quickly grabs ahold of her arm and walks away again as she uncontrollably laughs and waves her arms around.

A small smile returns across my face, instantly missing her crazy acts.

Once again, I merge my way through the existing crowd, occasionally preventing myself from bumping into anyone else. Despite the various teenagers that were situated outside, couples making out against the walls, the base of the music only intensifying and others dancing in their drunken states, I finally manage to successfully arrive at my door.

I hear voices coming from the left side of me. I had thought that they were the voices of Caleb and the girl, but this voice was way too familiar and different.

His hands were placed on her waist, whilst hers were wrapped around his neck.

I look away from their private make out session, but it was too late.

I hear him take in a deep breath, his head slowly turning towards my direction. His electrifying, blue eyes stay in contact him mine, his presence making me feel sick all over again.

"Parker, what's going on?" The brunette finally acknowledges our awkward encounter, only applying to the stretching of his stupid smirk. His name that rolled off of her tongue only added to the insane amount of hatred I felt towards him, extending the grip I had on the door.

"Parker." His name comes out in a harsh whisper, already reminding me of our past encounter. The wraith of my ex-boyfriend, who ruined my perfectly fit life, was nothing more than a counterfeit act.
