Eyes of Another

I am.

Those were Sara's words when asked who the real Ra's al Ghul was, and she hadn't meant herself, but her doppelganger from that earth; thus proving how much her and Nyssa's fates are tied, no matter how twisted it could be.

Sara and Nyssa found each other in the darkness. They were fated to save one another; to make the other stronger, better. They were meant to love each other.

What about that earth's version of them?

As it turns out, Rebecca's worst demon is that earth's Sara. Her demon that has been haunting her for quite some time. Would she be able to keep hunting her down knowing she bears the face of the woman she has fallen for? Or do they share the same fate as Sara and Nyssa? Meant to save each other? But with her being the demon she despises, would she even want to?

"How do you want to proceed?" Nyssa directed her question at Sara. Sara hadn't expected things to take longer than it already has. She may have a time ship on her earth but time is still a tricky thing to deal with, and the more time she takes not going back may cost her the time she needs to save her friends. But she made a promise to Rebecca, and she wasn't about to go back on her word now.

"We find her. We end this."

"You have to rest." Nyssa can see the toll it was taking on Sara. She has no idea of all the things Sara had been through when they were apart, but she can tell of the pain and the loss she must have dealt with, because her Sara is not one to run away from anything, but there she is on another earth hoping for a new life.

"I will when this is all over."

"It won't be over for you. After this, you will go find and save your friends. It's never over for you, Sara. You will always be the hero you are. Take this time to breathe. I will find her. I did find you, didn't I?"

When had she become so sullen that Nyssa had to tell her to take it easy on herself?

"Go be with your girlfriend." Nyssa added.

Then there was the twisting of the knot in Sara's gut. Nyssa's face and tone of voice may seem understanding, but Sara knew it pains her to even say those words. Nyssa had always loved her so much that she always let her go no matter how much it hurts. And she feels guilty that in every moment, she listens to her and never chooses to stay.

Sara took a deep long breath and turned around to see Rebecca with the same understanding and pain in her own eyes. She never thought she could hurt Nyssa more than she had ever hurt her, but now there's two of them she is hurting. The knot twisted further. Her worries over Ra's al Ghul, her friends, Nyssa and Rebecca crashed all around her, she suddenly felt lightheaded. Everything faded into a blur and the last thing she heard was her name being said from two directions and two strong arms catching her fall.

Sara came to in Rebecca's bedroom. She turned to the side to find Rebecca lying next to her, clearly as exhausted as she was. Nyssa was right, she needed some rest. They all did, but she knows Nyssa was already out there looking for that earth's version of her, that earth's Ra's al Ghul. She's not by her side, though they both would have wanted that; Nyssa would rather get things done for her if she could, than wait for her to get back on her feet before doing anything.

Sara watched Rebecca's peaceful figure as she slept. It had been a while since they had a quiet moment just to themselves. She moved closer to Rebecca, draped her arm over her waist and rested her head on the crook of her neck. Rebecca fidgeted at the sudden contact, but settled into Sara's warmth right after. It felt nice to steal a simple moment like that amidst the chaos. After all the loss she had gone through, she had forgotten how to take a breath and enjoy the simple moments the way she had been during the first few years she had with the Legends. It's those moments that help in keeping you sane and human.

Rebecca turned and burrowed herself deeper into Sara's embrace. She pulled her close to her, inhaling the intoxicating scent that was all Sara. She breathes her in and everything just fades away. It was just her and Sara in that moment. Rebecca doesn't want to open her eyes. She doesn't want to wake up and see that she might just be dreaming. She doesn't want to let her go. She just wants to stay there in Sara's arms.

Sensing Rebecca's uneasiness, Sara gazed up at her face to see Rebecca forcing her eyes shut.

"Open your eyes, Rebecca. I'm here. Look at me. I'm here with you." She said in her calmest voice.

Rebecca slowly opened her eyes and was met by Sara's captivating oceans of blue. It was clearest and calmest she had ever seen her eyes. There was no shroud of doubt and uncertainty, no cloud of guilt, no trace of longing. And for the first time, she believed that Sara was truly there with her and just her, no shadow of the woman Sara had always loved.

"You're here." She whispered.

"I am." Sara replied.

Without any other words, they both understood what else the other wanted to say. Rebecca wanted to tell Sara how much she loves her; how much she doesn't want to lose her; how she wishes she would not go and just stay, and choose to be with her; but that would be unfair. She knew that would be unfair to the both of them. She can't ask her to stay when her friends need her, and knowing that her heart truly belongs to someone else. And with the look Sara had in her eyes, Rebecca knew she knows exactly what was going through her mind.

Sara wants to ease Rebecca's worries. She wants to reassure her that yes, she's there with her; that she loves her, she truly does love her. She wants to tell her that she's there to stay and she's not going anywhere. She wants to tell her that she'll come back even if she goes to her earth to help her friends. But then she'd be lying, because she doesn't really know what she'd do. She doesn't know who she'd choose, which life she'd choose.

------------------------------------------

Nyssa went around town searching for leads about the real Ra's al Ghul. And the little information she gathered quickly led her to an office building. She arrived and entered without a hitch. There she was met by an overly friendly receptionist.

"Hello, ma'am. How may I help you?" The receptionist asked in a high vibrato that was a tad annoying for Nyssa.

"Where is she?" she replied sternly.

The receptionist's friendly features turned sinister with a single crooked smile and a raised brow. "She is waiting for you at the top floor."

Nyssa rode the elevator to the top floor to find an enormous office space with only a single  room occupied by a table and a revolving chair, where Ra's al Ghul, Nyssa presumed was seated with her legs crossed. The back of the chair obscured their view from each other, though both knew the other was there.

Nyssa entered the room, and without turning to look Ra's acknowledged her presence.

"You found me." She said in an unamused tone.

"You wanted to be found." Nyssa shot back.

"Clearly." Ra's turned around and saw Nyssa. "You're not..."

"No."

"But you're the swordswoman that made easy work of my men."

Staring down with that Ra's, Nyssa felt a bit conflicted. It was indeed difficult to separate her feelings when her enemy bears the face of the woman she loves. Ra's saw the slightest of hesitation in Nyssa's eyes, getting ideas, she smiled to herself.

"And I'm also the one who'll end you here." Nyssa declared. Getting her resolve back, she drew her sword.

"No, you won't." She smiled at Nyssa. "My fight is not with you, no matter how appealing that may sound, I just can't take you up on that. But she will come for you, won't she?" Ra's snapped her fingers and her assassins appeared out of nowhere. "I want her alive." She then pointed at Nyssa, signaling her assassins to attack.

Ra's watched as Nyssa expertly maneuvered her sword like it is an extension of herself; every movement, swift and precise; every strike, with a purpose. Watching Nyssa fight up close, she noticed that her technique was much like the League's but her skills was way beyond her assassins'. They are no match to her. Even if they are better than those she had sent at the warehouse; even if they come at her in every direction, she finds a way to get the advantage. Ra's was fascinated by her. It had been a while since she had fought a worthy opponent. She wondered who's the better fighter between her and Ta-er al Sahfer, because it would be a disappointment if Ta-er al Sahfer couldn't live up to her expectations. She has managed to piss her off meddling in her operations. She at least wants to enjoy taking her out. Then again there's the woman effortlessly slaughtering her men. She hasn't felt excitement over anyone or anything in a long time.

Nyssa almost lost her step as she glanced at Ra's al Ghul and saw a glimpse of a smile and a glimmer in her eyes that reminded her of Sara. She quickly regained her balance, but Ra's had grown impatient. She picked up a sword from her fallen assassins and joined the rest of those standing in their attack on Nyssa.

Nyssa stood her ground. It's not like she has never battled with Sara before. This time, her opponent might look like Sara, but she knows it's not her. She will not back down.

"Just surrender already." Ra's said to Nyssa as they crossed swords and came face to face with each other. Nyssa simply scowled at her and pushed her with her sword backwards.

Ra's smiled to herself. She saw that she was making Nyssa uncomfortable being that close. And she also noticed that she was getting slower due to her injuries and fatigue. They don't have all day for that fight. She went low and slashed Nyssa on the thigh and came up behind her, putting her blade onto her neck.

"Put your sword down and I promise you get to say goodbye before I end the both of you."

Nyssa tried to fight her off, getting a cut on her throat in the process. Ra's loosened her hold on Nyssa, then hit her at the back of the head rendering her unconscious. She dropped her sword and caught Nyssa in her arms just before she fell. She pushed Nyssa's hair away from her face and stared at her.

"Such fire in you." Ra's gently touched Nyssa's cheek. "Almost makes me want to keep you."

Nyssa woke up chained to a chair that was bolted on the ground. She looked around and surveyed her surroundings. She was in an empty concrete room with only a small window enough for some ventilation.

She struggled against her shackles. They were tightly wound up around her limbs and torso, restricting all efforts of movement. Then came in a familiar face, but she knew it wasn't the one she was hoping to see.

"Your friends are probably looking for you by now. And when they get here, they won't receive as warm a welcome as you did."

Nyssa kept her face emotionless. She's not worried about them. Sara can take care of herself; hopefully she was able to rest properly after she had left her with Rebecca. She was more worried for herself. She might have been through worse situations, but her captor wears the face of the woman she loves, and that makes things quite complicated for her.

"You can't even look at me." Ra's commented. "Tell me. What do they call you?"

Nyssa doesn't answer.

"Where did you come from? Two of me could have been twins split at birth, but two of you as well? In the same city? That's too much of a coincidence."

Still nothing from Nyssa.

"Well, I don't really expect to get anything out of you. You've bested most of my men. You won't break. But what's curious is that you and your girlfriend seem to have had League training, but I know nothing about you aside from being a pain in my ass. And she calls herself Ta-er al Sahfer. I was Ta-er al Sahfer before I became Ra's al Ghul. I thought someone was mocking me 'til I saw her." Ra's rambled on. She had no problem telling her whole life story. It's has been a while since she had been somewhat interested in someone, though she knew she wouldn't be keeping her 'til the end. She'll serve her purpose and she'll amuse her as they wait.

Ra's sat straddled on Nyssa's lap, forcing her to look straight at into her eyes. And there Nyssa saw a significant difference between Ra's and Sara.

"Do you fear because I look like your beloved?"

"You may look like her, but she's better than you."

"Better than me? I am Ra's al Ghul."

"So was I."

Curious, Ra's thought. She was Ra's al Ghul? That explains why she's far superior than her assassins. Interesting.

"Was? So are you saying she bested you and became Ra's herself?"

"No. I disbanded my league."

"You were Ra's and you just threw it all away? You're weak. She made you weak." She laughed at Nyssa.

"Maybe, but that's why she's better than you and why she will best you when the time comes. She's the strongest person I have ever known. She has been through so much hell, yet there is still light in her eyes, unlike yours. Yours is just empty." Nyssa said as she saw clearly that it's not Sara that was in front of her, no matter how much they look alike.
