The Scariest Date

¨H-hi Sans............¨ What is he doing here?! Why is he here? What is he going to do to me?????

Swarms of questions flooded in my head as I stared at the skeleton's sockets. He looked intimidating with his steady view of me. I felt myself shrink under his gaze; like a mouse being out-sized by an alley cat. For the first time in my life, I couldn't feel anything. All I could do is stand in front of him. His hands stuffed in his pocket rather forcefully and his back, stiff to stay in a 'casual' lean. It was frightening to see him here; so angry and tense. His eyes scanning my form in a glare. But one thing that is worrying is the black rings under his sunken eyes. Despite the anger radiating from them, his eyes looked dull and almost lifeless. For a moment, I saw a broken person in Sans.

¨heh. what's the matter? you look like you've seen a ghost.¨ he joked, half-heartedly. I cringed at what he said and gulped in anticipation. Was he........toying with me? Is he trying to scare me? If that were true, then he is doing pretty good at it. But, this doesn't seem like Sans. He was so light-hearted even when he was struggling with that past event with Gaster. I lowered my head in fear as I waited for his next move.

¨heh. relax, brat. i'm not here to kill ya. Just want to have a 'talk'.¨ How he said it made me even more nervous than before. But, despite the protests of my instincts, I accepted. Without even waiting on me, he heads to the side of the resort. ¨over here. i know a shortcut.¨

Now, I am walking to the side of the MTT Resort. With Sans...............Who hates me.......Probably........

Maybe?........

I don't know anymore.

He grabbed my wrist, harshly, and teleported us to a dimly lit restaurant. Checkered carpet of red and blue laid under my feet. Dark purple walls, cascading shadows with the flicker of lit candles. It was quiet except for the sound of slow, distant music in the background. If I wasn't worrying about getting killed, I would admire the beautiful and romantic scene. Especially since Sans is just staring at me. It just replaced the tranquil atmosphere into something extremely tense. The light flickered ominously as it lit part of the skeleton's skull with light. The rest of him was blended, subtly, with the darkness. I was seated in a chair and he was, too, but facing me. I felt like I was being interrogated as he crossed his arms.

¨well, here we are. so. your journey's almost over, huh?¨ he asked, matter-of-factly. I nodded and focused my attention towards a few of the potted plants to my right. They were pretty with their healthy green leaves and twisting, strong stems. I stared at the plants while Sans continued to talk.

¨you must really want to go home. hey, i know the feeling, bucko. though.¨ he trailed, hearing the soft clanking of silverware against bone. This time I looked back at him; his eyes glaring at me and teeth gritting in a strained smile. ¨maybe sometimes it's better to take what's given to you.¨ How he said it sounded very bitter and almost sarcastic. I knew he was talking about Papyrus and who could blame him. I would be pretty mad if someone killed my sibling. But, I never did anything. From my perspective and the others, though.

He forced his attention towards the wall; like he was disgusted to look at me. My eyes still lingering at him; taking in everything. Under his jacket, I saw something that was a vibrant orange and slightly ripped. My eyes trailed to where his fingers tapped after each other. One, two, three, four.

One, two, three, four.

One, two, three, four.

And it kept going. I could see the slight blue and red spark in his eyes; which disturbed me. The mixture between those two colors, how it was so close to making purple but it didn't. It was weird and scary. I always had a thing about red. I think of blood whenever I see the color red. I remember, as a child, that I would always made hearts any other color except red. Whenever someone asked why I didn't color it red, I always said that red was an angry color. That it always scared me. Now that I think about it, I am back to that state as a child. Only this time, it was this eerie combination. It had a murderous glint in them.

¨hey. let me tell you a story. so i'm a sentry in snowdin forest, right. i sit out there and watch for humans. it's kind of boring. fortunately, deep in the forest........there's this HUGE locked door. and it's perfect for practicing knock-knock jokes. so one day, i'm knocking 'em out, like usual. i knock on the door and say ¨knock-knock¨. and suddenly, from the other side................i hear a woman's voice. ¨who's there?¨ so, naturally, I respond: ¨dishes.¨

¨dishes who?¨

¨dishes a very bad joke.¨

¨then she just howls with laughter. like it's the best joke she's heard in a hundred years. so i keep 'em coming, and she keeps laughing. she's the best audience i've ever had.¨

Behind a huge, locked door? But, that would mean he was talking to Toriel! I was internally freaking out at this new-found information. But, I caught my breath silently to avoid causing too much attention to myself. He continued.

¨then, after a dozen of 'em, SHE knocks and says..........¨Knock knock!¨ i say ¨who's there?¨ ¨old lady!¨ ¨old lady who?¨ ¨oh! I did not know you could yodel!¨wow. needless to say, this woman was extremely good. we kept telling each other jokes for hours. eventually, i had to leave. papyrus gets kind of cranky without his bedtime story. like you would care though.¨

I frowned and tried to shake off the comment; listening to his story.

¨but she told me to come by again, and so i did. then i did again. and again. it's a thing now. telling bad jokes through a door. it rules.¨ he paused and looked to the wall again. He has been very spaced out lately. I folded my hands together and waited to hear more; to be respectful of course. He sighed and went on.

¨one day, though, i noticed she wasn't laughing very much. i asked her what was up. then she told me something strange. ¨if a human ever comes through the door..........could you please, please promise something?¨ ¨watch over them, and protect them, will you not?¨ now, i hate making promises. and this woman, i don't even know her name. but.........someone who sincerely likes bad jokes..........has an integrity that you can't say ¨no¨ to.¨

¨that promise to her.............¨ he glanced away and, looked back at me. His eye sockets completely black and smile looking scarier. ¨just might have to be broken. but, be glad i have a small amount of decency to let you live for a little while longer.......because, if i could..............buddy.............¨ Then, he grabbed my wrist and kept it on the table rather forcefully. His smile grew wider, to an insane grin. I struggled a little in order to free my hand from his tight grip. He slammed his hand onto the table; shaking the items that were on it. He drew closer to my ear and, what he said in a deep, gravely voice; scared me half to death.

¨.......You'd be dead where you stand.¨

I was frozen fear. I felt like I was about to cry, right there on the spot. I never realized how scary Sans could be. I desperately wanted to plea for my life. Apologize for whatever I did. Just bring things back to normal. So, out of desperation, I did.

¨S......S-Sans..........I-I'm sorry.........b-but I didn't d-do this!.........J-Just ask-¨

¨You plead not guilty?¨ he asks, cocking an invisible brow. I nodded my head, quickly. Then, the most gut-wrenching thing happened. He started to laugh. It wasn't a normal laugh. On the contrary, it was that of a madman! At first, it was a small giggle. Then a chuckle. Then, a cackle. Then, howls of laughter. Suddenly, he stopped laughing and gripped my wrist tighter; blood seeping down his bony phalanges. I whimpered and watched him with terrified, doe eyes.

Then, he pulled his hand away from my wrist and got up. He was still chuckling; his eyes still empty sockets.

¨It's too late for you, brat. I'll see you in the Hall................Dirty Brother Killer.¨ Enough said, he left the silent room. My heart beating to the sounds of his footsteps. My mind playing back the haunting of his laughter. I started to tear up, then, it turned into silent sobs. It was hard to explain how scared I was. But, I managed to say something through my cries.

¨I....I-I-I'm sorry, S-Sans. E-E-Even if you d-d-don't.......*sniff* b-believe me............I-I am s-sorry!¨ I cried out to myself.
