Freedom Will Come

I walked into the little shop and a bell rang as I entered. I looked around the space, seemingly larger than what it is supposed to be.

¨Hello, traveler. How can I help you?¨ a female bunny-monster asked over the counter in front of me. I smiled and asked what kind of food they have. You know, because who knows what monsters eat down here!

'They eat normal food, doofus.'

'And where have YOU been?!'

'...........Ignoring you.' I heard Chara reply, feeling the troll face she might be making. I mean, can she at least be helpful if she is going to be bound to me for eternity?! Well............I don't exactly know if she will be stuck in my head for as long as I live, but that seems most likely. I followed the rabbit lady, who was walking towards the far left of the cottage. While she was looking for the right aisle, she started making small talk with me.

¨I can't remember the last time I saw a fresh face around here. Where ya from?¨

¨Uh...........¨

'Say the Capital.' the child suggested, becoming more active than before. Thank you!

¨The Capital.¨ She smiled and nodded her head, her eyes darting back and forth across the room.

¨Ah, yes. The Capital. What brings you to Snowdin, then?¨she questioned, looking over her shoulder.

¨I was just walking by and I saw how quiet it is here, so I decided to stay a little longer.¨

¨Oh, it is! Alot of folks prefer the busy life but, you know...............limited housing. But, Snowdin is better than any other darn place around the Underground.¨

I thought about what she said and walked alongside her as she searched for food. The lady stopped and walked down a narrow aisle and gestured towards the shelves.

¨There isn't a lot but it's enough, aye.¨ she sighed. I looked at the small shelf; it was filled with batches of cinnamon rolls and packages of Popsicles with two in each package. Suddenly, my stomach growled as I caught a whiff of the warm and mouth-watering cinnamon rolls.

¨How much for that cinnamon roll?¨ I asked, pointing at the freshly baked dessert. She scrunched her nose a little.

¨It ain't a cinnamon roll, that's a Cinnamon Bun. That's 25G.¨ It seemed like a lot but I think I have enough for one Cinnamon Bun. But, I might need something else to help me win this battle against hunger.

¨How much is that?¨ I asked, grabbing the Popsicle duo in my hand. They are extremely cold, maybe too cold to eat in this place. However, I have to fill up my stomach.

¨The Bisicle is 15G.¨ Dang it! I only have 5G left! I sighed and purchased the Cinnamon Bun; eating it at the store. I stayed around so I could dig a little deeper into this town. ¨So, what can you do around here?¨

¨Grillby's has food, and the library has information..............If you're tired, you can take a nap at the inn. It's right next door- my sister runs it. And if you're bored, you can sit outside and watch those wacky skeletons do their thing.¨ I smiled at the thought of the skele-bros. I guess they are pretty wacky, especially Papyrus.

¨There's two of 'em...... Brothers, I think. They just showed up one day and...........asserted themselves. The town has gotten a lot more interesting since then.¨ That statement got me interested. What does she mean by ¨they just showed up one day¨? It's weird because this monster has no idea as to why they came here and where their from. 'Lily, stop overthinking. She's probably one of the townsfolk that are uninformed on newcomers.' I reassured myself. Besides, skeletons can't just be made..........can they?

I shook the thought out of my brain and decided to find out more about the town. ¨So is there any significant background on this place?¨ She seemed to be thinking for a moment but started speaking after a minute or so.

¨Think back to your history class............... A long time ago, monsters lived in the Ruins back there in the forest. Long story short, we all decided to leave the ruins and head for the end of the caverns. Along the way, some fuzzy folk decided they liked the cold and set up camp in Snowdin. Oh, and don't think about trying to explore the Ruins......... The door's been locked for ages. So unless you're a ghost or can burrow under the door, forget about it.¨

It is very interesting what she said about the Ruins. I've seen the ruins and it isn't big enough to house a whole population of monsters. But, there were probably less of them because of the war. After all, I heard the war took many lives, both human and monster. Another thing that interested me is how the bunny lady said the doors haven't been opened in ages. Why would Toriel keep the gates shut? Was she afraid that the others would see how she was treating the fallen humans? Knowing that the bunny-monster stopped talking, I can tell there isn't much that she is going to tell me.

So, I decided to ask about her life. Besides, it is polite to ask about someone's day; even if they're a monster. ¨What is life like in Snowdin?¨

¨Life is the same as usual. A little claustrophobic.................. But............we all know deep down that freedom is coming, don't we? As long as we got that hope, we can grit our teeth and face the same struggles, day after day............... That's life, ain't it?¨she went on, a little smile on her face.

¨You're right. Freedom will come, I have a feeling in here.¨ I replied, pointing to where my soul is. Her face seemed to brighten and she let out a small giggle.

¨You know, we really need folks like you to remind us of that promise.¨ she said before saying a farewell, ¨I hope you enjoyed the Cinnamon Bun, please come back again!¨ I waved at her and left the store with a full stomach and brain. I wasn't feeling tired, so I walked past the inn and continued to look around Snowdin. I walked forward and started greeting the townspeople around. They all greeted me with smiles and heart-warming conversations. To be part of something like this.........it................

~Seeing how kind the people of Snowdin are fills you with Determination~

~Time Skip!~

After greeting everyone, I decided to continue going East. I passed a huge house with decorative lights hanging on the ceiling and two mailboxes. I decided not to look through the person's mailbox and continue on my way, knowing looking through other people's mail is morally wrong. The path ahead of me was full of trees; parallel from each other. As I walked forward, fog started to accumulate my surroundings. I started to get nervous as the fog continued to cover my vision. My heart thumping in my chest. Breathing, that was once steady, sped up in a matter of seconds. For each step I take, the more I doubted my decision to continue walking. My hands waving, frantically, to usher the condensed water away. But, it continued to envelope me; almost laughing at my weak state and wanting to see my reactions even more.

But, that feeling came back to me. That feeling to keep walking and face whatever this fog has in store for me. I straightened my posture and walked confidently, despite the fog's attempts to frighten me. Suddenly, I am met with the body of the one person that eased my scared self: Papyrus. Even though it is hard to see him completely, it's not hard to recognize the skeleton's tall and confident pose. He took in a deep breath before he spoke.

¨HUMAN. ALLOW ME TO TELL YOU ABOUT SOME COMPLEX FEELINGS. FEELINGS LIKE...........¨ Wait, does Papyrus like me? If that's so,..............then that would be weird if he wants to capture me. ¨THE JOY OF FINDING ANOTHER PASTA LOVER.¨ Oh, heh. Guess I was wrong. He went on.

¨THE ADMIRATION FOR ANOTHER'S PUZZLE-SOLVING SKILLS. THE DESIRE TO TO HAVE A COOL, SMART PERSON THINK YOU ARE COOL. THESE FEELINGS..........THEY MUST BE WHAT YOU ARE FEELING RIGHT NOW!!!¨ Say what?

¨Papyrus, I think you're cool and all but I really-¨

¨I CAN HARDLY IMAGINE WHAT IT MUST BE LIKE TO FEEL THAT WAY. AFTER ALL, I AM VERY GREAT. I DON'T EVER WONDER WHAT HAVING LOTS OF FRIENDS IS LIKE.¨

'Heh. That's not what you told Sans.'

'Shut it, Chara!' I growled at her, still looking at Papyrus. As usual, Papyrus continues to talk.

¨I PITY YOU..........LONELY HUMAN..........WORRY NOT!!! YOU SHALL BE LONELY NO LONGER! I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS, WILL BE YOUR.........¨ he continued, leaving a cliffhanger for me. I leaned a little closer, hoping he is going to say what I think he is going to say. It would be AMAZING to have a friend like Papyrus! He wasn't wrong about the lonely part, though. No one would really talk to me, nonetheless be my friend! To finally have a friend would be...................

He abruptly turned away from me, becoming silent for a while before speaking in a low, saddened voice.

¨NO............... NO, THIS IS ALL WRONG! I CAN'T BE YOUR FRIEND!!!¨ he exclaimed, turning towards me. I felt he was looking down at me; forcing me to shrink at his words. ¨YOU ARE A HUMAN! I MUST CAPTURE YOU!!! THEN, I CAN FULFILL MY LIFELONG DREAM!!! POWERFUL!

POPULAR!

PRESTIGIOUS!!! THAT'S PAPYRUS!!! THE NEWEST MEMBER.............OF THE ROYAL GUARD!¨ After he finished, my soul came out and was set into a fight.......with Papyrus. I couldn't hurt him. I WON'T hurt him! But, there is one question that I have to ponder over before the fight.................why is there a crack on my soul?!
