Chance At Redemption
¨Woah there! I've got some neat junk for sale. Anything you wanna know?¨
I've just found this old turtle-monster, selling some items and thought that it would be nice to pay him a visit. He wore, what looked like a safari outfit, and a wispy gray beard. He looked extremely happy to see me and held a magnifying glass in his hands.
¨I want to know about you. It is the considerate thing to do.¨
¨I've been around a long time. Maybe too long. Studying history sure is easy when you've lived through so much of it yourself!¨ he laughed, hoarsely. I smiled and nodded. He seems nice and, if possible, he could tell me more about the King. I decided to take it slowly by asking him some more questions. I looked around and caught sight of a familiar symbol. It was an emblem that looked just like the one Naomi had in her box. Making small talk, I took the symbol and went towards the turtle for more answers.
¨Eh? You don't know what that is? What are they teaching you in school nowadays.........? That's the Delta Ruins, the emblem of our kingdom. The Kingdom.............Of Monsters. Great name, huh? It's as I always say........................Ol' King Fluffy buns can't name for beans!¨
I pulled out the same emblem from my pocket and placed it on the rickety counter next to the other. He seemed interested in how I got the same one.
¨I was given the same thing from an old friend but what does it mean?¨
¨That emblem actually predates written history. The original meaning has been lost to time..................All we know is that the triangles symbolize monsters below, and the winged circle above symbolizes............Somethin' else.¨ He looks around and comes closer, in a hushed voice. ¨Most people say it's the 'angel', from the prophecy..........¨ Now I am really intrigued.
¨What prophecy?¨
¨Oh yeah..........The prophecy. Legend has it, that an 'angel' who has seen the surface will descend from above and bring us freedom.¨
¨Wow, but you said that 'Most' people believe it.¨
¨Lately, the people have been taking a bleaker outlook.............Callin' that winged circle the 'Angel of Death'. A harbinger of destruction, waitin' to 'free' us from this mortal realm.........¨
¨But.............what do you think? What do you think the winged circle means?¨ I asked, sincerely. He was a little taken back when I asked that but happily spoke.
¨In my opinion, when I see that circle................I jus' think it looks neat!¨ he laughed as well as myself. I never thought I could make friends with monsters so easily. But, that doesn't matter right now. What I need to know is information that could be useful for my fight with Undyne and the King, as well as other difficult adversaries.
¨So, what could you tell me about Asgore?¨
¨King Fluffy buns? He's a friendly, happy go-lucky kind of guy..............If you keep walking around long enough, you'll probably meet him. He loves to walk around and talk to people.¨
¨King......Fluffy buns?¨
¨Yea. That's a great story!¨ he said before thinking a bit. ¨I don't remember it. But if you come back later, I'm sure I'll have remembered it then.¨
There isn't much information I could get out of him about Asgore. Strangely, he does not sound like someone who could kill innocent children. Well.............that's what all the kids and adults said in my town. There were six children that have gone missing and none have shown up, so they assumed they were dead. And, Toriel did say Asgore would kill me but.................everyone I've met has said such nice things about him! He can't kill a child and I bet he hasn't.............right?
I tried to focus on the task at hand. Knowing that Undyne is close to Asgore; position-wise, knowing more about her would be the smartest approach. Especially since she kind of hates me.
¨I've heard a lot of people talk about this....'Undyne' person and I don't know a whole lot about her. You got anythin'?¨
He thought for a moment before responding quite contently.
¨Undyne? Yea, she's a local hero around here. Through grit and determination alone, she fought her way to the top of the Royal Guard. Actually, she just came through here asking about someone who looked just like you...........¨ he said, a little suspicious about my presence. I gulped.
¨R-Really?¨ 'Man, I'm such a wimp.'
¨I'd watch your back, kid. And buy some items......It just might save your hide!¨ he joked. I sighed in relief and let out a nervous chuckle. 'Phew, that was too close for my comfort.' I looked around through the piles and piles of junk that laid here. There was some neat stuff but something drew me to a shiny object. It felt like the eerie aura behind me is beckoning me towards it. Getting closer, I, now, see there is a pair of cloudy glasses. Under it, there is a torn piece of a notebook. The other ghostly force, somehow, made the paper move.
It's like........they WANT me to take these things. I shrugged it off and grabbed some Sea Tea, bought them and walked out of the small store. I looked forward and left to see where I should go. In front of me, there was a tranquil body of water with nothing of interest. Thinking there might be something worthwhile on the left, I went to that direction. A sign awaited me, patiently laying against the wall like it had waited for me. I sighed, wondering what it will say next. Most likely a continuation of the others.
Hurt, beaten, and fearful for our lives, we surrendered to the humans. Seven of their greatest magicians sealed us underground with a magic spell. Anything can enter through the seal, but only beings with a powerful SOUL can leave.
There is only one way to reverse the spell. If a huge power, equivalent to seven human SOULs, attacks the barrier............. It will be destroyed.
That's why Asgore needed SEVEN human souls! If he were to absorb the souls of seven humans, he could break the barrier. But, why children? It doesn't make sense. There must have been other adult humans that have fallen down here...........right? I mean, it is strange how the only humans who fell down here were children. Barely even a teen. I feel like it might have been planned to have the weaker and more innocent ones be extinguished to gain human souls quicker. But, was it planned? Who could have the ability to do something like that?
I was struck with a sudden pain in my head. This is what I get for over thinking things. As I was crossing the river, I saw a furry white creature peer its head up and I was, immediately, sent to a fight. In front of me, a monster that looked like a mixture of a cat and dog looked up at me. Its fur white as snow and black hair contradict each other. A blue and yellow sweater neatly shaped its outline. Lastly, her face contorted to a derpy go-lucky expression.
I didn't know what it was but killing it was not an option. I clicked the CHECK icon and saw that the thing is named Temmie. They vibrated intensely and shouted happily, ¨hOI!!!! i'm TEMMIE!!!!!¨ before attacking me. I dodged their attack and they landed on their feet, not very gracefully. By feeding the creature and dodging her attacks, I was able to spare her and go about my day. Then, another sign appeared and I read it:
But this cursed place has no entrances or exits. There is no way a human could come here. We will remain trapped down here forever.
But, I'm here and I've made it this far...........So, maybe I might save them! I have to have hope! Papyrus believes me so there has to be some sliver of hope. Especially if he, of all people, believes in me! Strangely, I didn't notice myself walking through the dark and I 'woke up' lost. I looked around frantically, my hands digging into my scalp in frustration and anxiety. I was hyperventilating right now and I would have passed out when a warm, vibrant orange glow appeared in front of me. It swarmed over my head and zoomed around me. I watched it for some time, watching it move from place to place.
It flew towards a mushroom and stood above it. I shot a small eyebrow raise at the thing and went towards the fungi. It touched the mushroom and it lit up, showing me a path. After that, the ball of light kept hoping to each mushroom; ushering me to click them. Everytime I did, it did the same thing as the previous ones. Good news, monsters haven't attacked me yet. However, I had a bad feeling about it which I quickly pushed aside.
It led me to another dark room and gestured to the sign, illuminating the words so I could read them:
Without candles or magic to guide them Home, the monsters used crystals to navigate .
The ball of excitement swirled around happily and guided me through the darkness. During this time, I was able to think about everything. My thoughts led me to Sans. Why was he so angry? Did it have to do with Papyrus? Even more importantly, why did Sans pick up his brother's phone? Of course, he might have found it somewhere but it sounded unlike the happy skeleton to leave his cellphone around. But, what else could I do? Sans doesn't want to talk to me, obviously. Papyrus was missing. And, everyone is almost...........avoiding me.
Another thing that came to my mind was the orange orb in front of me. It seemed very..........familiar. Just the way it moves and how active it is............It's like I knew someone or something with that level of energy. Plus, it appeared almost instantaneously! A stranger wouldn't just find me like that unless they knew where I would be or if someone told them. I dismissed the second possibility since it was unlikely another spirit-like being would tell it. But, what about Napstablook? He could count as a spirit and would, most likely, speak to other 'fellow' spirits.
Suddenly, it stops and disappears right in front of a doorway. Without hesitation and wondering why it vanished, I walked into a dimly lit room. Being extra cautious, I tip-toed around; hoping not to disturb anyone. After walking a few feet, I see an Echo Flower and decide to hear what it has to say.
¨Behind you.¨
All of a sudden, I hear the familiar clanking of Undyne and quickly turn around. She walked a foot or two and stopped looking down upon my cowering body. I pushed myself up against the dirt wall and watched her, my breathing speeding up.
¨Seven. Seven human souls. With the power of seven human souls, our king.......King Asgore Dreemurr........will become a god. With that power, Asgore can finally shatter the barrier. He will finally take the surface back from humanity.........And give them back the suffering and pain we have endured. Understand, human?¨ she spoke, seriously.
I shook slightly, unsure about what might happen next. Her voice was raspy and held a high amount of authority. I'm not even surprised she made it as the Leader of the Royal Guard. I teared up a little, scared that THIS time.......I might actually die. Napstablook is almost a mile away and no one.......I mean NO ONE will know I died here.
Papyrus disappeared.
Sans is mad.
Toriel can't reach me.........
I'm doomed.
This is the end of the line for me....................
¨This is your only chance at redemption. Give up your soul.............
Or I'll tear it from your body.¨
She posed, ready to strike at me. Her translucent blue spear appearing in her hands. The sharp edge towards me. Droplets of sweat coming down out of every pore.
One step.
There is no escape.
Two steps.
I have failed both Naomi and Toriel.
Three steps.
I will die and I will not deny it.
Four steps.
My end.......is drawing near.
Six, Seven, Eight steps.
¨I am sorry Sans.......for whatever made you upset.¨
Nine, Ten steps.
¨I hope you can forgive me.¨
