PoV: Sonic
"Can I take off the blindfold yet?" I asked.
"No, not yet."
"Relax, we're almost there."
"Just trust us, okay?"
"I can't even trust you to flip an egg," I replied.
"Okay," my blindfold was removed and we were at a little cafe.
"A cafe?" I asked.
"One of the best in town," Scourge grabbed my hand and walked me inside.
They sat me down and ordered something for me and themselves. A crepe was placed in front of me. Bananas, strawberries, chocolate and creme. I could have dug in right there, but I wanted to wait. I wanted to wait for everyone else's food to come.
"Sonic, you're not eating?" Silver asked as his benedict came.
"N-no. I want wait for everyone else's food first," I answered.
"You're so cute," Silver rubbed my cheek.
"..." I got the weird warm feeling again.
Everyone's food arrived and then I started eating. It was delicious. I loved the strawberries the most. I wound up finishing first since my plate as the smallest. I felt like that was part of their plan since they wound up feeding me bites of all their plates. They took me on a walk after. It seemed like a regular date until we got to the plaza.
"First dibs!" Silver grabbed my hand and took off running, pulling me behind him.
"Hey! Silver!" I didn't know what was going on.
"Don't worry, I'll bring you back," Silver took me into a little shop.
Manga and anime CDs covered the walls and shelves. Posters and figures for sale.
"A manga shop?" I asked.
"You're a weeabo right? You like all the cute dolls and Japanese food," Silver held up a cat watch, "You like any anime here?"
"Weeabo? I just like cute things, that's all," I explained, "I don't really watch this kinda stuff."
"But the food you make," Silver held up a sushi squishy.
"Those are my mom's recipes. Her mom made them before her. I only know some of her recipes. I never got the cook book," I help up a notebook they were selling. A unicorn on the cover.
"They're all family recipes? I just thought you really liked Japanese food," Silver looked around, "Well, do you see anything you like?"
"It's fine, we can't afford to spend money anyway. Let's just go for a walk instead," I put the notebook down.
"Yeah," we walked out of the shop and through the park.
---
"Sonic," Silver started, "Can you tell me about your family? You don't talk about them much."
"... My mother," I felt kinda of sad talking about this. Silver took my hand, suddenly I felt a bit better, "Mama liked to bake. She would make all the pies and treats. She cooked only sometimes. The recipe book grandma gave us was shared between them. Mama, and Papa would both cook. Papa liked cooking a lot more..." we stopped under an apple tree, "There was a orchard outside our house. All kinda of apple trees grew there. Papa would have me stand on his shoulders while he picked apples. Sometimes he'd even hold me up in his hand and let me pick a few."
Silver hugged me, "You're home sounds so peaceful."
"It was... I miss them."
Silver let me go for a second. I heard the rustle of trees and Silver handed me a freshly picked apple.
"Sonic, don't cry," Silver wiped the tears from my cheeks, I never noticed I was crying, "You have us now."
Silver's hug... He smelt like apples, but he was warm. Warm like a soft blanket.
---
"Silver, my turn," Scourge found us after I cheered up. Silver picked me a few apples while we talked.
"I'll hold onto these," Silver took the apples, "I'll meet you at home."
"Okay," I let go of the apples and Silver kissed me, just before walking away.
"Sonic," Scourge took my hand. He smelt like cigarettes. He smoked constantly, I hated it, "Let's go."
"Scourge, stop smoking," I said.
"No," he lit another cigarette, "Besides, I don't smoke in the apartment. There's no problem."
"It's bad for you. Your lungs are gonna turn black," I told him.
"I'm fine with that. As much as I like the others, dying isn't something I'm afraid of."
"But..." I squeezed his hand, "If you smell like cigarettes all the time, how will I know your scent?"
"You're cute," he said, "How are your shoulders?"
"Healed. They have scars now."
"Sorry, it was in the heat of the moment. Things heat up quickly for us, since there're four of us."
"I've never dated before you guys. So I got mad when you did that. I can't even tell when someone's flirting with me."
"You're innocent with dating, but you're mature in many other ways. You can cook when most students can't. Instead of asking for a cigarette, your words made me start smoking less than a pack a day," he put out the cigarette. It wasn't even halfway burnt yet.
"You're smoking less than a pack now?" I asked, "I'm glad you're smoking less."
"Its just for you," Scourge said.
"What about the others?" I asked.
"They were never bothered by it. They didn't care if I smoked. If I got miners lung, asthma, lung cancer. They didn't seemed bothered by it. And you keep lecturing me about it."
"Its a disgusting habit," I watch as the sun started going down.
"You might not say it, but you care."
"Only because you're my roommate."
"Sure," he rolled his eyes.
"Where are you taking me?" I asked.
"Someplace special."
"Special?"
"You'll like it. Trust me."
"Okay. I'll trust you."
