Past Nisse (ni)

Jacob separated from his family as they decided to have a picnic not too far away from the forest he got lost in. He had made an effort to come up to the forest when he could. Each time he needed an excuse to leave his home without his parents worrying if they weren't going together. He stepped over a tree root then stopped at the sight of a butterfly sitting comfortably on a flower. He watched from afar, being reminded of his time spent with Kevin.

The butterfly left the flower then flew over to him, landing on his nose. Jacob giggled happily then noticed small flowers forming a path on the ground. The butterfly made itself comfortable in his hair as he followed the path. He soon found himself passing under the flower arch and entering the meadow. He noticed there weren't any flowers this time.

The butterfly flew away, leaving Jacob all alone. He looked around, searching for Kevin's home.

"You came..." a familiar voice said.

Jacob immediately turned around and hugged Kevin tightly. Gust floated beside them as Kevin returned the gesture.

"What happened to all of your flowers? There's nothing but grass." asked Jacob, looking around once more.

"I outgrew them." said Kevin, walking Jacob to his home.

"What do you mean? They were there two days ago." said Jacob in confusion.

"After a certain age, child fairies go from flower meadows to grassy ones. It's like... human puberty." explained Kevin, opening the door.

Jacob sat on the flower couch and expected to see plant based snacks. Instead, there sat human sweets from flavored candy to sugar coated cakes. He looked at Kevin who poured a green liquid into two cups.

"Are these real or illusions to hide the real thing?" Jacob asked before taking.

"They're real. Human kids love sweets, right?" Kevin said, handing him a cup of green liquid. "It's nature juice. I know it sounds off putting, but it tastes amazing."

Jacob's eyes widened as they spotted it. He swiftly picked on up and started to devour it. Kevin watched in awe as Jacob nearly ate all of the crumbly mini cakes.

"I love coffee cake!" Jacob exclaimed before he swished the green liquid around in his mouth. He swallowed then blinked in surprise. "It does taste good. More please."

Kevin watched in bliss as Jacob dug into the small pile of coffee cake before eating a slice of cake himself.

ㅎ ㅎ

Kevin rubbed Jacob's stomach as he moaned. His frown lowered as Jacob looked more uncomfortable by the second.

"Maybe you shouldn't have eaten all of those coffee cakes..." Kevin muttered, feeling Jacob's stomach rumble.

Jacob moved slightly then covered his mouth. Kevin bit his lip, opting for rubbing his back. He wished there was more he could do. He watched Jacob crawl over to the hole before releasing the contents of his stomach. Kevin knelt by his side, rubbing his back once more.

"I feel awful..." Jacob grumbled before regurgitating once more.

"It's my fault... I never should've made those sweets or shared my juice." said Kevin, felling immense guilt.

"You didn't do anything wrong... How were we to know I'd get sick..." Jacob wheezed, his stomach starting to settle.

Jacob silenced Kevin as he moved to speak. He'd just have to enjoy both things separate from now on. He felt himself being pulled down before resting against something soft. He looked and saw Kevin had created him a bed and pillow made up of flower petals. He lied on his side facing Kevin.

"You should sleep too. I'm sure it's tiring always using your magic around me." said Jacob, patting the spot next to him. "Make yourself a bed too."

Kevin did as he asked then lied down. Jacob smiled warmly, intertwining their fingers. He loved coming to see Kevin. It was the one time he could truly get away from it all and just exist. And then there was Kevin too. Someone who listened to him and made sure he knew his thoughts and opinions were heard and validated. Kevin didn't judge him. Gust hovered between the boys before transforming and gently falling over them as a large blanket.

Kevin looked at the sleeping Jacob fondly before drifting off to sleep himself, finding himself tired as Jacob predicted.

ㅎ ㅎ

Jacob awoke and found himself sleeping closer to Kevin than when he fell asleep. Their hands were still joined together. He snuggled closer to Kevin, finding his warmth kind and inviting. He felt full of energy after a long rest from cleaning out his system. Kevin slowly opened his eyes, taking in everything around him. It suddenly dawned on him how close they were.

"Morning sunshine." Jacob teases before getting up and running off.

Kevin rubbed the sleep out of his eyes as Gust had transformed back into a balloon. He felt more tired than when he had gone to sleep. He lied back down, hoping more rest would do him good. Jacob noticed this and hurried over to him.

"Are you still sleepy?" he asked.

Kevin nodded before Gust transformed into a blanket again. Jacob got underneath as well then pulled Kevin close to him.

"I'll stay by your side, so sleep at ease." whispered Jacob, giving him a squeeze.

Jacob hummed a song his mother would sing at night to help him sleep. Kevin was easily lulled to sleep, curled up in Jacob's arms. Jacob closed his eyes as well, feeling tiredness hit him again. Flowers slowly started to bloom around them as Kevin's emotions were materialized into them, showing his happiness.
